1  General Discussion / General Technology and Hardware Discussion / Community Folding@Home Team! on: 23 September, 2012, 00:13:57
Recently I started a Folding@Home team to keep track of the progress of my points when i was running the clients on my Beowulf cluster. Later on the team developed into a calculator community team which also has some cooperation from people at UNCC.

The team is getting very close to breaking the 2,000,000 point milestone!

We now are 2,717th place in the world! (according to the official count, not the live count, which is at 2,709th place)

We outrank several major universities, we even outrank Wikipedia in protein folding work completed.

Here's the team pages:

http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=teampage&teamnum=213973
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/team_summary.php?s=&t=213973

I would really appreciate anyone who would like to join and help with the project.

Please visit http://folding.stanford.edu to download the client and join the team!

Please make sure to join team 213973

Please help me also congratulate Leafy, Shimbs, Alberthrocks and Jacobly for joining the team and contributing to the project!
2  General Discussion / General Technology and Hardware Discussion / Virtualization for zero downtime computer usage. on: 14 March, 2012, 08:02:25
Three virtual machines running as a process, and two instances of folding at home SMP client running on the same machine, while running a web browser and paint to make the screen capture. I'm impressed with this little laptop. I'm folding 5 separate proteins right now.

Virtualization is amazing stuff. I am finally using all of my system's resources. Surprisingly, it's still responsive with the cpu running full out like that.

3  General Discussion / Computer Projects and Ideas / My Beowulf Cluster on: 28 December, 2011, 06:20:57
I've started a little project in my home, it's a Debian 6 (squeeze) based Beowulf cluster! From donated and unused desktops I've made what is more or less just a small LAN network right now with partial Beowulf setup implemented. I'm still working on the OpenMPI stuff. As it is right now, I've got them all running Stanford's Folding at Home, getting mucho work units done 24/7.

If you would like to assist me and know anything about clustering or Linux in general, I'm still kind of a noob at this and could use the help. I may post questions here for that reason, if anyone can help me, a bunch of calc programmers will probably have the answer if I can't find it on my own!

Thanks in advance to anyone who helps me with the project.

4  Calculator Community / TI 68K Projects / DOA on: 19 November, 2008, 17:40:15
Seeing as the new omnimaga is up, running, and doing quite well from the look of it, I am going to start a DOA thread here.

STORY:

You are part of the I.G.I.A, the InterGalactic Intelligence Agency. You have been sent to Titan, one of saturn's moons to investigate the disappearance of weapons, plutonium and some soldiers. The IGSA, the InterGalactic Security Agency runs and funds this base, so uncovering the reasons for the disappearing weapons and soldiers is of the highest importance.

After being briefed, fed and dismissed, you spend some time reading in your quarters. Some time in the early hours of the day, you hear a crash. You grab your weapon and dash towards the direction the sound came in. The T1000 has gone berserk. It appears that this prototype defense robot has killed a soldier. You draw your weapon, find a weak spot and fire. After the thing has been disabled and the body of the soldier is taken care of, the T1000 is taken in for diagnostics to find out why this happened.

In the morning you hear a commotion coming from the administrative quarters. "What now?", you think as you rub the last remnants of sleep from your eyes. You make your way to the commander's office and find out that during the night, the diagnostics lab technician has been murdered.

.... And that's all I'm giving you for now. When I write up the rest of the story you'll have to play the game to figure it out for yourself.

There has been a lot of work done on this game already, and you can track the progress from the beginning on www.tifreakware.net.

Recently I implemented some nifty things with the enemies, they drop items when you kill them, and also locked doors, and black hole generator booby traps.

Here are the screenshots chronologically.

Here's the beginning:

A little further into development:

AI starting to take shape:

Some early cinematics:

Menus starting to take shape:

Starting to put fine touches on cinematics:

Here's today:

This one shows that the player is mortal and the black hole effect.

This one shows the neat little item dropping from the dead enemy thing.

It merits a look or two. I think someone should write a ray caster for it. Tonguetongue.gif
7  General Discussion / Miscellaneous Discussion / Heading off to Asheville on: 03 August, 2007, 11:11:00
I'm heading off to Asheville for the weekend. When I get back I'll see about fixing the hostage code, I've already got some ideas of how to make the hostages' sprites directional. Also I've got an idea of how to make the hostages stop following you and run to the escape pod when they "see" it. It should be fairly simple. Anywho, I'm going tonight, and I'm going to see the new morning gallery art show. I'll take some pictures if you all want to see.

When I get all the 26th level stuff done, hostage code, bugs fixed, graphics prettied up etc..., I'll release the current beta as a public beta. I may have already said this but whatevs. This short break should give me some ideas, usually when I step back from a project for a while I get some more ideas.

See you all later!

Peace.
Fire.

8  Calculator Community / TI 68K Projects / Doom89! on: 31 July, 2007, 01:17:00
Hello everyone, as you might (probably) already know, I am working on porting Doom95 to the 68k series. I started this topic to let the people who do not frequent the other boards where I've been talking about this know whats going on. Also this is the place to post your opinions, ideas and general discussion about this project.

Here's my http://tifreakware.net/atg/index.htm which will have the public release beta on it, it's a tad buggy and really only there to give you a feel for what the game will be like at this point. The current beta with all the bug fixes and nifty new features is only available to beta testers right now, so if you want to see it now, you kinda have to volunteer to beta test for me. It's not a labor intensive job, just tell me if anything goes wrong and any opinions you have or ideas for the game.

Hope you all enjoy Doom89 as much as I have enjoyed building it. I hope to have the whole game finished in a month or two. (probably counting from the time I get my good computer up and running again   :ihatemypc:crash.gif  )
9  General Discussion / Introduce Yourself! / Hello There on: 29 July, 2007, 10:57:00
Greetings from the geological center of nowhere, Huntersville N.C. I've been on other forums and you may have talked to me there before, but for those who haven't met me... I'm the creator of Doom89 the upcoming FAT-Powered port of the original game Doom95.

I'm 18 and have been programming for nearly 6 years, I started with HTML and progressed to TI-82 basic, then to TI-83+ basic, then to Visual Basic 6.0 then VB.NET, to (68k) C, then C++. I hope to learn Z80 assembly in the near future. I'm excited to be back in the community and I hope to make some friends, contribute some games/programs that people will play/use, and help out in any way I can.

S'alam a'leycum, Bonjour, Hola and Hello.
