Ressolved:

1. Polls will be done for minor projects, while games and programs will be judged by panel of several people.
2. Sections will be broken into: Games, Movies, Artistics, Other and All
3. A forum for theme suggestions and another for stipulations suggestion will be made and each contest will consist of one or more of each

You're right, but I think that contest should not last that long and should resolve in very big projects. I think a month (or two) for a small or middle-sized project (I'm speaking of programming) is more than enough (if you really want to get it done). And for such projects, a public voting would be sufficient.

What about programs? Something like getting the fastest fps-rate when doing some special kind of animation?

well, to grade it you'd have to play it all the way though (at least IMO) and if there was an average of 8 hours of gp then how many people wouldn't completely play it through?

Yeah, but who would make a game with a gameplay of 8 hours or more for a contest (besides some of the "program of the year"-contests)? I think a contest should focus on smaller things.

For games, everyone should be able to vote.
For programs, you can set up a value for each contest that indicates the winner.
Pixel art is difficult, but like in previous contest, you should focus on small stuff
Movies (if they should really express somethin) should be voted by all people plus a few judges. Then some kind of system could add the results together to receive the winner

um, Ive never made anything with little game play...for instance.  I've never published a game but everything I ever made was hard as crap to beat and took lots of leveling up.

also, how many things could you judge?  I have a strong inclination that one, two, three dozen entries would be overwhelming to no that the grading was unbiased.

But lets hear more peoples opinions.

that'd be my position on it, 4-6 would be good I'd think...
it seems a number of people so far have agreed on my opinion  conserning judging.

As far as the other issues, what do you think?

I think having the people vote on pixel art contests like we've done in the past has worked really well.  We could do the same for the movies, as they aren't that hard or long for people to judge.  However, I do believe that for the programs, we would need a set of 3-4 judges that would thoroughly test and play all of the games fully in order to give them a fair score.  I don't think that having the average member judging them would be a good idea as this would lead to biased judging as well as un-fair judging from people who only played a portion of the game or played very little of it, and just made up scores for them.

If we could have one person receive the programs, which are anonymous, then that person would post the programs. Then all who want to could download the program, then we could have a poll for each program. Just like UTI did for the speed coding comp.

I think we should have first a nominating judges panel, where people can nominate a good judge, then we can pick the judges, and they'll review the prgms.
For anthing else, polls work fine, just that for prgms, people kinda like to pick random votes and not go through the prgm completely, sorta like wat i did for POTY Cheesybiggrin.gif

I dunno I am not really in charge of this contest, plus atm I doubt I would be able to manage it, maybe we should start polls about game theme?

Yeah, I guess necro should manage it? And just have the rest be chosen by polls?
