OmnomIRC moved to new server

In response to the recent downtime on #omnimaga, several people have asked questions and voiced concerns about the security of the channel from takeover.

After a small debacle last night between Manager Eeems and CoT SirCmpwn ([email protected]) got out of hand, SirCmpwn shut down the channel and kicked all Operators. This resulted in approximately 37 minutes of downtime, during which the channel was relocated to irc.omnimaga.org (port 6667, #omnimaga for future reference). This was fixed by our kindly forest squirrel, Cooliojazz and the channel is back to normal. SirCmpwn also attempted to delete the Axe Parser releases thread, but Juju easily undeleted it. SirCmpwn has been banned, security measures are being discussed and implemented that will hopefully prevent this terrible occurrence in the future. We apologize for the discrepancies in the logs and any inconvenience this downtime may have caused.

We might make irc.omnimaga.org, also known as OmniNet, our main IRC server for more security. Unlike EFNet, OmniNet have services, which can protect your nickname from impersonation, much more features and the servers are ran by Omnimaga staff, which is obviously not the case of EFNet. Please give us your feedback in the comments

EFNet and OmniNet are already linked together with OmnomIRC.

Thanks DrDnar. This is an all-time low blow from Sir. Idk what to say but he definitively showed he cannot be trusted.

What I think that happened is after he moved out, he got tired of his parents and he went like "fuck authority", so whenever someone called him out, he got mad and this eventually culminated into tonight's takeover attempt. He wanted to control how Omnimaga is ran by deciding everything, and I think he also tried to get banned because in the last few weeks he has been increasingly more rude here. Also notice how he posted his last KOS update on Cemetech, but not Omnimaga. Those are signs he had something against Omni for a short while now.

IMHO he should be permbanned and his account deleted from the forums, otherwise people will forget what he did tonight and just think he left. Technically takeovers == permban and permban == account deletion. He won't be missed after what he did and I think this needed to be posted publicly, due to the magnitude of what happened.

By the way staff don't blame yourself for the takeover. It's me who insisted so Sir re-applies for staff a few months ago because he was fine for a while. Problems started happening a week after he returned to staff. I got into 3 fights with SirCmpwn, because he tried to challenge Omnimaga authorities and was increasingly rude, and now he hated on Eeems because he'S christian.

Sorry but if someone hates christians or people of another religion than his/his lack of, or black/yellow/gay/bi people, then he doesn't deserves an account on Omnimaga.

Yeah, it's sad that it came to this, but seriously Omni was always meant to be free of hostility. if he doesn't like that, he shouln't be here, because I doubt policies will change because of him.

Also I bet he's gonna try to do everything to make us fall apart so I just suggest we boycott him and his projects or anyone who supports his actions.

I didn't see that coming after Sir returned to being a CoT. I also think it's fair that his account gets delete, what he did was really bad.

Regarding what happened to the IRC channel, I don't really know because I was not there, but I don't mind the move to OmniNET, I actually think it's much better than EFNet for the bots and such.

just because someone is "wrong" in his opinion (i.e. has been misled by society into thinking a certain way) does not mean you should act like an ass to him. (oh, and no offence, Eeems/anyone who may feel that what i'm saying violates his belief system. i'm just speaking out of what i, personally, believe to be true here.) in fact, if you really want to do something about all the superstition and mythology that is still so prevalent in today's world, the best way to go about it would be the exact opposite approach. personal attacks and insults do nothing but push people away and make them more adamant in what they believe and less willing to take the view of a sceptic and a scientist. the only way to teach people is if they are willing to learn, and students certainly don't listen to teachers whom they cannot respect. the proper approach is to build bridges rather than burning them, approaching cordially and sharing what you know so that others can benefit from that knowledge in the same way you have.

i hope you finish up Knight OS and would definitely still like to see you around every now and then, be it in #cemetech or anywhere else. good luck with life, sir!
