Sorry for the absence, been offline for a few months, got back on and seen the new members bar with mostly names like qwer1234, four characters followed by four numbers, probably should ban them ahead of time?Huh??

Many of them are legitimate members and we wouldn't to go on a banning spree just because their nicks look random. The forum already has a bot-detection system in place (based on emails/hostnames), and the few that do get past that are quickly removed anyway.

We should ban 163.com though. Most of the bots that goes through the filters comes from there.

Yea, it happens. However most of the staff is quite active. Often times I'll go to ban a bot and it's already been smacked with a banhammer by someone else. shocked Thanks for mentioning it though, we are aware of this and keeping an eye out. Smiley

I doubt the 4 members in a row starting exactly with 4 letters followed by 4 digits are legit users, though. However for the others they could be actual members. After all ralphdspam has a bot-ish nickname and he's still a real person. Tongue

My botishness has been brought into question on multiple occasions. I was even lead to believe I was a bot shocked

In all seriousness, though, UTI has been inundated with bots over the past few weeks. I have literally had to go through several hundred posts to delete all of the spam ones (so all except 8 or 9)
