Hello Everyone. I tend to do these (I just don't catch myself that often) but this one was really bad. I tend to make broad generalizations of lot's of things, especially when I haven't been sleeping recently or have been deprived or sleep. I just want to say I apologize for a comment in IRC that I posted about TI-BASIC being "Slow and Obnoxious" and how I didn't like TI-Basic games. This was a very snide and poorly spoken comment and I apologize if I may have offended anyone in saying this. I take full responsibility for my actions and I do not expect any individual in this community to forgive me for this, as it was rude and uncalled for. My Deepest Apologies, thydowulays.

Yes, I realize I have done this many times and offended many people in doing things like this. I don't ever mean to, things like this just slip out sometimes. A while ago I made this cool Ti-Basic maze game that I was really proud of, then one of my friends said I need to stop programming stupid calculator things and not waste my free time at school do that. Since then, I have not particularly seen Ti-Basic games for their advantages, but rather their disadvantages. Again, I sincerely apologize for any offense this may have taken to any member on this board.

The thing is just because ticalc.org BASIC folder is mostly crappy games and that the Skyrim game on popular blogs is just a generic BASIC game (when Ndless 3.1/NESpire/etc can't even make Slashdot/Engadget front page) doesn't mean 100% of the BASIC games are worthless. This is why people need to avoid comments like this (first and last):

[19:18:51] <+OmnomIRC> (O)<thydowulays> ti basic games are a failure, im sorry
[19:18:52] <+OmnomIRC> (O)<TBO_Yeong> TI 68k really have amazing games.
[19:18:57] <+OmnomIRC> (O)<Ti-Programmer> no that skyrim thing
[19:19:05] <+OmnomIRC> (O)<TBO_Yeong> metroid, Advanced war, Mario, etc
[19:19:12]  * +New post by yunhua98 in What is your avatar? http://ourl.ca/4788/228049
[19:19:12] <+OmnomIRC> (O)<TBO_Yeong> Advance war *
[19:19:15] <+OmnomIRC> (O)<Ti-Programmer> i need to get a new silver cable
[19:19:21] <+OmnomIRC> (O)<Ti-Programmer> for my ti 89
[19:19:25] <+OmnomIRC> (O)<chattahippie> I think ti basic is really good when a good programmer uses it
[19:19:37] <+OmnomIRC> (O)<TBO_Yeong> yes.
[19:19:39] <+OmnomIRC> (O)<chattahippie> like midnight, serenity, metroid pi, etc
[19:19:45] <+OmnomIRC> (O)<thydowulays> True, but it's slow and obnoxious.

Else this is generalizing and given how much work was spent on certain programs this was uncalled for. I'm glad you recognize it at least. Now the goal is to be careful since such remark can offend other people.
It's just your opinion.  You really don't have to be sorry for what you think Tongue
The problem is on Omnimaga, if you don't have anything nice to say, it's best you keep it for yourself, and narrow-minded generalizations are not allowed. In fact in the past people were banned for comments that were less bad than then above. In the past this happened on various formerly popular calc sites and this only caused unnecessary drama. I ranted about it too before, like here: http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?topic=11399.0

With Axe Parser having reached its popularity peak a while ago, now we are facing the same problem as the 68K community did in 2005 when TIGCC was at its popularity peak and almost replaced TI-68K BASIC. This is why it's best we discourage ASM and Axe coders from falling into that trap, else it can only escalate and the community won't be healthy anymore, since all BASIC coders would be singled out regardless of their skills.

Anyway I'm glad you recognize your comments were uncalled for thydowulays. Now make sure to be careful in the future, though. The team tries to avoid punishing users and limiting what they can say, but they won't accept any discrimination towards a group of programmers/programs nor a type of program (such as large games with many files)

It is true that TI-BASIC isn't the fastest language. If it is poorly programmed it can be very slow and annoying. However I have seen some amazingly talented people prove time and again that it doesn't have to be this way, and that fun, fast and innovative things can be produced using nothing more than BASIC. The apology is nice, and remember how you say something can be just as important as what it is that you say. =)

There are some games in particular like Contra that are really impressive for BASIC. There are slower ones but they're really limited by the language speed and when not adding too many features, you don't have to worry much about speed. I even worried I would have to slow down Illusiat 11 walking on 15 MHz calcs at first.
