I think I've gained a reputation on this site for finishing some projects and giving up/canceling others.  With that said, I'm very hopefully going to Russia this year, but it will not take me away from Omnimaga.

It does make me think seriously about the future of Elimination, considering that half the people want the graphics to be nicer-looking--I'm not sure about continuing a game that not many people want to play.  To fix everything would require me to study raycasting.

Until I know what to do, I've been working on a new puzzle game, much easier to program and quite fun to work with.  (It's totally unoptimized and yet runs wonderfully)  But even though my life is my life, I'm worried about disappointing people if they see the game and in the future find out it's "yet another project that gets canceled."

Here's one screenshot.  Should I keep the rest of the project secret so that you aren't disappointed, or are you eager to see more of the game as I progress?

Wow, that looks really nice! How long have you worked on this? I am assuming from the name of the gif that this project is (for now) called Infiltration?

Hot_Dog: That looks really nice! I may even want to borrow some of those graphics... Smiley I think everyone understands that shit happens. If you don't post, the only thing you'll accomplish is people not knowing that you're working on anything.

About 2 1/2 weeks so far, although it originally started as an Axe Parser contest entry.

Yes, it is called Infiltration Smiley

I guess you could give updates but if you ever feel you cannot continue, you should keep the source code (and plan files) ready for a release, so someone can finish it. I hope you can finish Elimination, though, even if it remains as it currently is, since it was quite nice already. It's your choice, though.

Btw the game looks pretty nice. Cheesy

As for russia, knowing what the trip involved, are you sure you will have Internet access or even be allowed to use it at all, though? 6 years ago, two TI community members made a similar trip in Dominican Republic during two years, and they were disallowed to use any Internet communication, although one of them managed to sneak in every few month or so. It was a rule/policy that got imposed on them (I don't remember if it was a religion-related motive or not, though) Just letting you know in case you expected to have regular Internet access and that the trip was the exact same thing as those two people, so that you won't get surprised if you end up with no Internet access during two entire years.

My general rule is that I don't release screenshots or updates until I have an engine going.  At that point even if I abandon the game, it is still possible for somebody to come along and finish it.  What I don't like to do is post a thread about a game I'm *planning* to start, explaining all of its awesome features, and then abandoning it right off the bat.

That being said, very glad you released these shots and I personally can't wait for more Cheesy

Yeah I noticed this happened a lot in the past X.x, thankfully the lack of replies to such projects and suggestions on how to announce them seems to have convinced people to wait a bit longer. In fact Axe was initially gonna be announced that way, before one single line of code is even written, and I suggested Quigibo to wait, so people take it as seriously as possible.

I'll definitely keep that in mind.  So far, it doesn't seem like it will be a problem, especially since there are internet cafes if I get desperate Grin.

That was a bad habit of mine Grin

Ah ok, I was just worried they would prohibit you from even entering an Internet cafe or punish you if you do, while monitoring what you do.

Well, considering he's an adult I don't see that they could either punish or monitor him. That would just be really odd. Undecided

I'd also like to mention that for elimination you were modifying a preexisting engine to work with your new game. The graphics are only going to be as good as that engine is capable of rendering. All things considered I thought it looked pretty decent. Not to mention we are using a rather tiny screen for a FPS. The graphics aren't going to be super detailed. I don't know what other people thought (didn't look through the thread) but maybe you were being a bit tough on yourself. Sometimes we ourselves are our harshest critics.

Well for Barrett and Skaboinka they did, from what I recall (although maybe the latter was not adult yet at the time).

Thank you for your encouragement, but to be honest, this isn't about being tough on myself, cause I'm not.  It's about my making a game that most people will want to play.  I'm glad that some people like it, but if half the people aren't going to play it in its current state, I have to think about if it's worth my spare time in Russia.  This isn't the first time people don't play a game because of graphics.

By the way, DJ_O and Builderboy, this has nothing to do with the changes you suggested.  They are nice changes that wouldn't be hard to implement.

Yeah graphics can have a big impact on first impressions, definitely I can see that in the screenshot puzzle game, very nice and appealing. Elimination is up to you, though it's a game already as it stands, it depends.
