Hi all,
Hope you can help me solving this problem..
I bought a TI-nspire CAS+ on eBay, but it seems it can't be detected by the student software. All the stuff about maths and calculus are working on the palmare, so I really don't know what's the matter.
I recently discovered the existence of prototypes on eBay, not able to share documents with PCs. Two questions for you:
1) How can I know if mine is a prototype? (Even though I have a bad feeling about this.. Angry)
2) Is there a way (hacking or something like that) that allows me to share documents using the software?

Last thing: I don't even know if all I'm asking is legal or not, even the possession of the prototype (that's supposed to not be sold, right?). Please let  this newbie know if he's asking or doing somethin stupid.

The nspire CAS+ were the prototypes, yes. But I'm almost sure it's legal to possess one.
I don't know much about the CAS+, but others here have experimented with hacking or updating it.

Thanks for your answer.
The problem is I can't update it, since it can't be detected by PC. Manual reset isn't an option either, I think it will just screw up the whole thing.

Any other suggestions or hacking experiences?

The newest student software probably wouldn't work with it. Have you tried TiLP?

TiLP won't work with a CAS+.

You need an old TI-Nspire Computer Link Version: 1.0.59
http://tiplanet.org/forum/archives_voir.php?id=1439

It has an update menu, but it's totally useless as no CAS+ OS has ever been released publicly by TI, and no CAS+ ROM has ever been dumped up to now.

You won't be able to update and have to stay with that awfull 1.0 OS.

Hope it wasn't expensive...

True, no device detected by TILP. Just experienced.

I'm not very interested in staying with the old OS, i just need to share files between the calculator and pc. Is it possible?

Anyway, not so expensive..

Yes, but only files generated with a TI-Nspire CAS+ handheld/software.

Meaning that you won't be able to open 99% of TI-Nspire files available on the Internet.

You should contact TI-Cares and see if they can do something for you.

You've bought an unfinished prototype which is "not for sale" as written on the back.

Has Ndless been created for that OS by the way? Of course new Ndless programs were created for newer versions, though, but I'm just wondering in case.

But yeah it's best to be careful on Ebay to make sure the calculator your are buying is not a prototype. Also be careful, because there are prototypes called TI-Nspire on Ebay that are passed to buyers as commercial models to trick people into buying them.

Apart the fact from discovering that TI-Nspire CAS+ & TI-Phoenix were the same thing, nothing interesting has been achieved on those models yet.

No flashing, no dumping, and no ndlessing... Sad

I wish sellers like those have their balls fired up on a barbecue.
Well anyway, 30 euros for a CAS calculator isn't too bad, it could be gone worst. Smiley

Yes, but only files generated with a TI-Nspire CAS+ handheld/software.
As I said before, that software doesn't work anyway. No palmare found.
I'm on a VMWare machine, running xp. Could it be the problem? :|

did you download the version at the link he gave you? It's an older one, specifically for your calculator.

With VMWare, you have to make sure you set up the USB correctly. Do you have other USB devices working properly?

You could possibly send this fun calc to critor for analysis... Wink

But yeah, you're pretty much SOL... Amazon I would trust more. A friend got an old Clickpad CAS for ~$50. (And it's not a prototype - he install ndless3 on it as soon as he got it! Cheesy)

If you do decide to ship it to critor, he will likely pay the shipping for you, and maybe (tentatively Tongue) give you money for a new one Tongue
