Hey Omnimaga,
Some of you (though I doubt it)may recognize my name from youtube, deviantart, minecraft, warhammer 40k, or...some other web-based things.

I stumbled upon your site while looking for some programming answers via Google, hopefully you'll all be able to help me out a tiny bit. Smiley  I recently (got it yesterday) took the leap of upgrading my graphing calculator from the TI-83 Plus to the TI-nspire CX CAS. Cheesy  I'm not too big on programming, but I would like to figure out how to get the few programs I've written on my 83 to my nspire.  I've written programs that allow me to plug in numbers for variables to solve things like the ideal gaslaw, the quadratic formula, etc.  How would I go about transferring/rewriting them on my nspire?  I can't find anything like the 'prgm' button on the 83 on it.
I just installed Ndless and a couple of gba games, thanks to a youtube video that I think pulled some info off your website. Smiley
I do not know C+, or Lua (whatever that is), or Ndless, or anything at all. :p

If you could help me out, that'd be fantastic!  Thanks very much!

TI-83 Plus to the TI-nspire CX CAS.

shocked What have you done?? shocked

Just kidding, there are quite awesome stuff for the CX too Wink (just make sure to not upgrade to OS 3.2 when it comes out so you can continue using nDoom and such software Tongue)

Anyway welcome here. Unfortunately the TI-Nspire CX does not have backward 83+ compatibility like the older grayscale TI-Nspire models had, so 83+ programs will not work for the CX. Sad Someone would have to write a 83+ emulator for the TI-Nspire using Ndless for such thing to happen).

If you ever venture into programming, feel free to ask help in our help sections if you need any. Smiley

Cheesy Thanks!

Too bad these calcs don't have backwards compatibility, that'd make my life simple.  Is there a place on the CX where I can rewrite my programs in CX format?  They're really simple, I just want it to be able to work out the quadratic formula for me. :p

Doesn't the Nspire have Basic, like on the 83+?  I've heard it's pretty abysmal but if you're doing just math it might be useful..

Well I've been reading the 'getting started' pdf, and at the end theres a list of hotkeys/combos.  Theres a combo that says to 'check syntax and store (in program editor)'.  But theres no combo that actually takes me to said program editor, or anything in the index mentioning it either. So I guess I just need to locate the program editor, hopefully that'll be what I need!

Found the program editor!  Thanks guys. Smiley

did you find the one that splits the calc screen in half or the one that gives you the whole page to start with?

The Nspire CX got TI-BASIC (very limited) and Lua. There's also ASM/C but that requires Ndless.

Found one that splits the screen in half.

I don't know what Lua is, but I think I may look into it, I want to try to get into more-than-basic programming.  I also have Ndless, but at the moment that is only used for my gba emulator.

Yeah it's usually recommended that you start with BASIC and learn the general concepts, then you can move to Lua. Keep in mind the Nspire BASIC will not teach you For/While/Getkey and such stuff, though.

Yeah, I had never heard of that before coming to this forum. :p
I've done basic programming before, for my robotics class back in highschool. Using RobotC or something like that, for Vex Robotics.  I understand the basic if, then, else, etcs, but I haven't had the chance or opportunity to use any of the other, more complicated commands.

But there's no sense crying over every mistake
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake
And the science gets done and you make a neat gun
For the people who are still alive.

I'm not even angry.
I'm being so sincere right now.
Even though you broke my heart and killed me.
And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.

I was so happy for you.

Now these points of data make a beautiful line
And we're out of beta we're releasing on time.
So I'm GLaD I got burned think of all the things we learned

Hi ShortsonFire79 and welcome to Omnimaga!
TI-nspire Basic is probably my most experienced calc language (except perhaps Casio 9850 series Basic) so I can help you with some stuff.

By combos I am thinking pressing particular numbers so that you can reach the program editor?
Then these will help:
New Page: Menu -> 4 -> 2
New Program (OS 2.0 and below) : Menu -> 4 -> 9 -> 1
New Program (OS 3.0 and above) : Menu -> 4 -> A -> 1 (I am still used to the OS 2.0 shortcut Tongue)
And yeah, you can discover other ones by yourself as it is indicated in the actual menu.

Any other help with TI-nspire Basic feel free to ask!
And Lua is something for TI-nspire OS3.0 that is less limited and can create good games!
Speak to Chockosta, cyanophycean314, Ghezra and others who all have great Lua projects for help on that!
I myself am trying to learn Lua (but I'm afraid I don't have enough time really...)
