TI-Story: the entire TI community history documentation in one place

A few years ago, there was a discussion that started here about trying to compile the entire TI calculator community history in one place, either on WikiTI or somewhere else, to document every past and present events, contributing members, notable programs and every calculator-related site that existed since it started all. Unfortunately the idea never came to fruition at the time.

Well, good news! It appears that a bunch of people have stepped up on TI-BASIC Developer website and revived the project! A sub-section of their Wiki called TI-Story has been opened to public and is constantly getting updated with more TI community documentation:

So far, it is still very incomplete, but it is only because there might have been thousands of calc websites and members that were around at one point or another, and to add them all, a lot of research will be required, including the Wayback Machine. So far, you can already read plenty of info about dozens and dozens of websites and events, and anybody is free to contribute to the addition of documentation and keeping articles neutral if necessary. As it is now, it is already a huge resource if you want to learn more about the TI community past and possibly present.

And even though it is not very complete, there is already a bunch of info already up. For those who don't know, Burr introduced TI-Story on his forum a few weeks ago and invited people to help him. When I looked, he had already started and done most of the research on what teams there were, sites, and other info.

EDIT: I added some info about TIFT, too, though it could be better written.

I edited a bit of stuff on the Omni page, mainly removing 3 of the listed staff that had retired, although I'm unsure if I should keep it as 4 columns or not?

Besides that I added more URLs. Should I state what URLs were for? Because a few of them were only for the forums, back when Omni forums were completely separate from the site, while there are some that were for both. There were also a lot of alternate URLs for ease of access. Should they be flagged as that?

I am happy to see that you guys found your way to TI Story, and that you even started  contributing I am thinking about moving TI Story to its own wiki to give it more  space to grow and mature, and because it is becoming rather cumbersome to have to sidestep all of the TI-Basic Developer content.

Although my primary interest in TI Story is researching content and writing articles, I recognize that the social aspect of posting updates and drumming up community support is a critical component of a site's success. So, I wanted to recruit a couple people that would be fellow administrators, and would handle the public relations side of TI Story.

I have put a lot of thought into who would be an appropriate administrator, and I think it would make sense if it was Kevin Ouellet and Kerm Martian. Both of them are well-known and respected within the TI community, and Omnimaga and Cemetech are currently the two most active sites in the community. It would basically amount to a site affiliation of sorts. So, what do you guys think about the idea?

I think it would be cool o.o I think that because TIBD is a site that a lot of new programmers visit, they will get to see how the community evolved and all the new programmers at Omnimaga and Cemetech can hear about it as well o.o

(WikiTI had a TI community history section since 2006 anyway, but it just never took off as much as TI-Story did).

Unfortunately though I would have to decline any offer for admin/mod on another site, though, in short to semi-long terms, because I do not know if my health is good enough yet to take on such task (not to mention I retired from Omnimaga administration a year ago). Also as of the last few months I've been splitting my activity in half between calc and hockey business forums. I could possibly help editing some pages and correcting stuff while I have free time, though, like I did a few days ago.

I understand, that makes sense. I actually did look at WikiTI, but it just has a few TI community-related pages. WikiTI and TI-Basic Developer are both good resources for programming information and documentation, and I think that should remain their focus and scope.

What I am envisioning with TI Story is a TI community version of Wikipedia, so I think it makes sense to create a separate wiki as there is a massive amount of TI community information and history that should be documented. I also think it would be better to consolidate forces around one complete TI community wiki we can all use and enjoy, instead of several small wikis with scant information that just ends up wasting time and effort. I have only briefly looked at the non-English TI community, but I think they are an important part of the TI community history and should be involved in this project as well.

Thanks for the help, the page looks good While searching through the ticalc.org program archives, I've noticed that there are lots of French TI programmers that have been part of the community. Although I don't speak French, I think that's the part of the TI community that is most interesting. What do you guys know about the French TI community?

I have made some appearances on tout82 (they do mostly 82, 82 STAT, and 83 calcs). Here on Omni we have a growing french community, too, and there have been two big contests in France this past year (zContest 2011 and TI-Concours still under way). Both had/have quite a few participants which is cool
