Name's Chris and now you know what the C in CMG stands for  Tongue

Used to chill on TIMGUL, but since it died, and they posted a link to this place, I figured I might as well join so I can showcase my stuff  Wink

I just recently broke through the long writers block (artist block for musician?) with my music, mostly because i was busy with life, but now that things have quieted down, I can continue to focus on making songs whenever I can  Smiley  My style is that of 90's dance and techno, but I honestly have more fun remixing other songs than making my own creations... thats not to say I can't come up with a few original works here and there, lol.

Anything else you wanna know about me, feel free to ask

Hi and nice to see you around here. I hope the TIMGUL posts are back up soon. Sadly, every file attachment posted after July 5th 2011 were lost, because during the server move, Netham45's TIMGUL backup got corrupted entirely. Luckily he still had the database for the posts, but if I did not have a nearly 1 year old backup for the files elsewhere, TIMGUL would pretty much be gone completely now.

The site was actually closing before it got deleted, though, since all admins had moved on or were too busy to maintain the site, plus it averaged at 1 post a week in its last few months it seems. A final news post was made there announcing read-only mode. Currently it's online somewhere, but it's completely broken because the forum database backup mismatches the site files setup (such as installed mods and SMF version).

Anyway hopefully your music is available online again soon. I actually have a lot of it on my computer though. TSUOPIAMUSH (sp?) was one great classic Stepmania file Smiley (and maybe the only to use a MTV Music Generator song). New Sunset (Digital Dusk Remix), Tombstone Terror, Jellyfish Club (Full-O-Funk Remix) and Silius (Journey To Paradise) were my favorites too.

Btw from which song did the digital dusk melody came from? I heard it several times in late 2002 or early 2003 in an house track on the radio, but I could never find it again (I loved that song). It had clap sounds accross the melody, though, kinda like this:  http://djomni.57o9.org/clapexampleofsong.mp3 Huh?

Why thank you Smiley And you are correct, TSUTOPIAMUSH was the only song from that contest that was made using MTV Music Generator.  The people that entered into that contest all either used Fruity Loops, Sony Acid, or Garage Band... so I guess you could say I "broke the mold" so to speak Tongue The only reason why the SMFile got so popular was cause of the "mascot" I decided to use for the song (not to mention I've been making SMFiles for quite some time at that point as well and was one of the lesser-known popular artists that kept spewing out packs like crazy... not to brag or anything, lol)

Ah I see. I didn't remember it was for a contest. That song definitively sounded Stepmania-ish, though, because of its speed and some of the sounds used. Of course we notice it's from MTVMG because of the pre-made riff and the samples used, but someone who never used MTVMG would guess it's another insane typical Japanese DDR song.

I need to get back into making music... I haven't done anything new since TotKotM except remixing Trancimaga (again) and starting working on a new eurodance song on MTVMG2 while my computer was broken.

Btw I also forgot about Dirty Talk Remix. That was one nice '90s style remix of the song. Cheesy

Correction.. I USED to make Smfiles... but the community isn't what it used to be many years ago when I started in 2004 and started becoming popular in 2006.  Now-a-days everyone seems to forget that the graphics don't make the smfile, the steps do, and even if your graphics are top notch, there's people out there who are very anal about what a "perfect" smfile SHOULD be.  In other words, everyone is a critic, and has super high standards.  That attitude pretty much killed all the joy I had for making stepfiles, and as a result, I retired from making anymore.

I doubt if theres any of my stuff floating around online, and I don't have anything on my computer considering i had a hard-dr-ve crash one year which wiped out everything, incuding the last pack I made (Cosmic Power)

Aw it sucks that they jumped on the graphics bandwaggon too. It happened when I was in the RPG Maker community for a while in 2007. If your entire game contained one single 16x16 pre-made tile, your game was pretty much thrashed. Or on OCRemix when I submitted a FFVI cover once, it was rejected and I got told that MTVMG could never make a good enough OCRemix (granted, that was the first MTVMG song I made in almost 3 years, but it was far better than many MTVMG stuff posted online prior TIMGUL era and way better than many older OCRemix stuff).

Don't worry about graphics on Omnimaga, though, because here as long as it's at least monochrome at a resolution of 96x64 and runs at 3 images per second minimum, it's fine. Tongue (I mean, most people here program or play games on a TI-83 Plus calculator and like old skool graphics.)

Also sorry that you lost all your stuff. Undecided

oh lawd, don't get me started with OCRemix =/ And what they told you was pretty hypocritical considering that when I first discovered OCRemix back in my high school years (like around 2002), I seemed to recal a few songs on that site that were made by people that used MTVMG (such as a Megaman 8 Frostman remix).  However I did notice some time ago that they cleaned out alot of stuff on their songlist and all the old songs i used to enjoy got thrown away as if they never existed.  I would call them elitist, but that would be an understatement

Don't worry about graphics on Omnimaga, though, because here as long as it's at least monochrome at a resolution of 96x64 and runs at 3 images per second minimum, it's fine. Tongue (I mean, most people here program or play games on a TI-83 Plus calculator and like old skool graphics.)

lol that's good to know... cause I use PAINT.net, and all I know how to do is fuck around with effects, which is how I made my avatar, lol Tongue And no biggie... I look at it as a sign of out with the old, and MAYBE in with the new if i ever come across a few people that would like to play my stuff again, lol

Wow they even deleted old songs? shocked Are they still available elsewhere such as torrents? Otherwise that sucks Undecided. Never TIMGUL would have deleted any old song due to being lower quality (if that was the case) than newer stuff. The only times TIMGUL deleted songs were when their authors requested so or did it on their own (such as during the episodes of drama in 2009) or when data was lost due to server failures (such as July 5th 2011 through April 21st stuff).

But yeah about graphics, the stuff in the following video is pretty much the standard here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01nk87z_ezo

Although today there are color screen calculators, I doubt they would run Crysis. Tongue

That reminds me about backups, I just found an old folder containing demos of my songs. I should maybe upload some...
