The TI-Nspire OS does support optional add-ins.
Together with its TI-Nspire softwares 3.1, TI had included english-chinese dictionnary add-ins for the TI-Nspire OS.

The add-in files look similar with OS files:

Unfortunately, it was impossible to install the dictionnary on our TI-Nspire CX.

You needed to own the chinese model: the TI-Nspire CX-C.

And knowing that CX and CX-C models were sharing the same OS, there was some verification somewhere...

Fortunately, Levak has developped some code this evening which has been included in a new tool, cx2cxc, and hot-patches your TI-Nspire CX OS, making it believe that your handheld is a TI-Nspire CX-C! Grin

No restriction! Unlike a real TI-Nspire CX-C, you can still choose between 15 languages instead of 4. Grin

But like a real TI-Nspire CX-C, the dictionnary shortcut is now active and available in the home screen, and you can install the english-chinese dictionnary! Grin

Do you have to reinstall anything related to Ndless after you make the CX into a CX-C?
Such as emulators, nClock, anything?

Edit: Also, how much memory does the dictionary take up?

That's cool.

@Az I doubt you would need to reinstall ndless, since ndless is what handles the conversion in the first place. It's not changing OSes, it's altering the existing one.

Oh okay I see.

But still am wondering if the dictionary takes up space.  After all, I have little space due to my GBA games... Big smile

No, you don't.
cx2cxc just modifies some flag in RAM, which makes the OS behave differently.

You don't even have to reboot to install the dictionnary.

The dictionnary TCC/TCO takes 3MB.

But we still haven't determined where it does install itself.

There is no evidence of its presence in the whole filesystem (tested with RootDoc) or in the /phoenix/TI-Nspire.tnc file (tested with nTNOC).

Thanks.

So you can't remove files from this hidden folder without Ndless.

I've used the patch, but where do I find the dictionary to install?

What happened:
The box said that it mimics a CX-C yada yada yada
I go to the home screen and a gray line appears but no "D" for dictionary.
When I change my language to Chinese, the D appears, but it says that you must ask a teacher to install the dictionary.

Where do I find it?

Try opening the .app file (right-click, and select browse package) and you should be able to find it somewhere in there.
