Here it is zoomed up. I can't really add another bar because that would give it a height of 9 rather than 8, which would cause problems and such.

True it helps especially for people who are more visual (like me) ^^

One concern I have, though, is the gray background for the heart and the 99. Could it be removed?

Yeah, I like it too. It also might be a tad better if I move the bar for the weapon over a pixel, so that the ammo count isn't right up against the lv.

EDIT: Kinda like that.
