Ok, I will get a screenshot later but, I've got some progress! (Yayz)

I've gotten character movement and collision detection working.

Bugs:
-View moves faster than the camera
-Animation doesn't complete fully when moving up/left

So that meas I'm going to have the pleasant task of rewriting my movement code Big frown
(Unless I can find the bug that's been eluding me for months)

After that I'll start working on transitions as well as the battle engine. So, provided college doesn't get in the way, I might even be able to release a small demo soon to show my progress thus far. Grin

Now what I really want to get to is, I'm currently swamped. I can't ever find the time to sit down and work on this. So if anyone with C++ knowledge is interested, I'm looking for programmers to help me make this.

So I've gotten transitions working now. So the movement engine is more or less fully complete. There is just one thing left to fix which is just how many tiles to draw around the character. (I don't want to draw EACH tile every frame lest we have Huge maps) And I'm close to fixing that one.

After that I'm going to do an update to TileCat. (Probably finish my rewrite as well). I have an idea to make each map contain the start coords for where the character must spawn. Or I could make it so it has another map type that contains coords for the player and NPC's to spawn.

I'll also have to update for events such as signs, NPC's, battle's, and such. Once that is done, I can release a demo of  small city or what have you.

Interesting so far. Sorry I haven't checked this in a long while. I'M slowly catching up on half a year of project updates here and there.

You should make the water darker and have some sort of texture (cartoon-ish texture might do) maybe, since the grass and road are quite dark.

That would be cool, although you could try to stick to an old-skool look even if you do a complete graphical overhaul, like on the Super Nintendo. It would be cool too, although it's up to you. Smiley

Another thing I just noticed now is that some grass tiles do not seem to be aligned with the others and there's some sort of uneven pattern showing a grid between each of them.

I have a small question because I'm running into a bit of a wall.

As of right now the way the main character spawns on the map is that it looks at the NPC map and spawns the character when it finds a 0.

The problem is, no matter where you enter the map at, it spawns you there where it ought to spawn you elsewhere. Say for instance you enter a house from a city then exit. The 0 could be at the main entrance to the city so it looks like you entered the city again instead of exited the house.

So basically there's only one spawn to multiple potential entrances.

My question is what is the best method of detecting where the character should spawn based on what map he transitioned from?

You might need to ask this in the help section, so more people notice your question actually, since most people who frequents this section are people who are looking for project updates.

In any case, however, I usually saved the last char position/location in other variables when entering a door, so when respawning, I checked where I was and it determined where I needed to respawn.

Yeah I figured out a method of locating where to spawn. I keep the map name of the last map and look for its position in an array of map names. When I find it I search for that value in the transition data and spawn the character there. Late last night, Quebec was invaded by a group calling themselves, "Omnimaga". Not much is known about these mysterious people except that they all carried calculators of some kind and they all seemed to converge on one house in particular. Experts estimate that the combined power of their fabled calculators is greater than all the worlds super computers put together. The group seems to be holding out in the home of a certain DJ_O, who the Omnimagians claim to be their founder. Such power has put the world at a standstill with everyone waiting to see what the Omnimagians will do...

Wait... This just in, the Omnimagians have sent the UN a list of demands that must be met or else the world will be "submitted to the wrath of Netham45's Lobster Army". Such demands include >9001 crates of peanuts, sacrificial blue lobsters, and a wide assortment of cherry flavored items. With such computing power stored in the hands of such people, we can only hope these demands are met.

In the wake of these events, we can only ask, Why? Why do these people make these demands, what caused them to gather, and what are their future plans...

Ah that's good then. I had troubles with that in the past. In fact this is the reason why none of my calc RPGs got any kind of magic that lets you warp outside a dungeon.
