Title: Greetings Omnimaga!
Post by: NecroBumpist on August 18, 2011, 05:02:17 pm
Hello everyone!

I'm so excited to finally join this forum.
I've always been crazy for Lua, and when I read that TI now allows Lua on the NSpire I knew I just had to join!
I'm a total optimization freak, so in other games I would even go so far as to program time critical subroutines in Lua assembly, something I'm eager to test on the NSpire.

I can't wait to see what great things come of Omnimaga :)

(P.S. How is omnimaga pronounced?)

Hi and welcome. Your peanuts should come soon.

What calcs do you have?

I have an NSpire Touchpad I just updated to OS v3.
I'd like to get the colored one (Prism?) in the future, but that probably won't happen any time soon.

I'm exploring the API right now, looking for something fun to try :D

(P.S. How is omnimaga pronounced?)
I pronounce it like this:
Om (like OmNom) - knee - ma (like mother) - ga (like gah without the h)

Anyway, I hope you have a wonderful time here.

Welcome on Omnimaga :D

At least Omnimaga is easier to pronounce than Cemetech.

What kind of projects are you all working on right now :D?

If you're looking for the color nspire, it's the Nspire CX. The prizm is by Casio, and doesn't have lua, but it does have a C compiler.

And Welcome!

A Lua/Java/Brainf*ck/KSL interpreter for Prizm.

A Lua/Java/Brainf*ck/KSL interpreter for Prizm.

Wow.
Lua and Java are both compiled to bytecode and than ran on a VM AFIAK, so are you just working on the VM or are you writing a compiler as well ?

Post by: AngelFish on August 18, 2011, 11:15:53 pm
Just the VM. Multiple compilers in addition to multiple VMs would be a nightmare :P

I'm starting a project to port a very popular 86 game to the 84+, but I only started today, so we'll see. Plus I have to learn assembly to do it :P

Oh, okay lol. Detonate looks pretty fun, but it's written in Axe.
I've been seeing that a lot, and I've gathered that it's a custom language, but is it for the z80 or ARM9 processor ?

Great to see yet another Luaist :D

Heh, Lua is my favorite language! (Mainly because I haven't gotten far enough into C++ or x86 ASM to love them more)
I'll have to start being creative for once so I can write cool games for the NSpire :)

Axe is for the 83+ and 84, so z80.

Welcome to omni, btw :D

Spoiler For offtopic edit:
"luaist"?  that actually sounds pretty cool :P

Ahh, thought so :\
I wonder if it will be ported to ARM9 if NDless 3 comes out :)

I know z80man plans on porting it to the prizm, but for the nspires I'm not sure...
The thing about axe is it compiles to z80 asm, which is ndless to say different from ARM asm.

i c what u did there

So in the meantime, without NDless, is Lua the fastest alternative on the NSpire ?

Yeah, I program exclusively for the 83/84 series of calculators, as that's what I, as well as most of my classmates have.  Well, I guess I've technically programmed an 86 before, but I've never released any of those programs.

Does TI still sell 83/84 calculators ? Which is more powerful (processor wise) ?

They still sell 83+ and 84+'s. The hardware is basically the same for all of them, except for a bit of overclocking in the 84+'s.

84+s are probably better to get, esp. with the extra speed (15mHz compared to the 83+'s 6mHz) and USB port.

Wacky Fun Random Numbar Generator? O.O

Yep. The only other option is TI-BASIC, which is very slow and limited.

welcome!

I pronounce Omnimaga like: Om-knee-ma (like in match) - guh.
And it is much harder to pronounce than Cemetech.  :P  (Unless I'm doing it wrong.)
(Kem-Teck)

welcome and stuff. Like ztrumpet, I program exclusively for ti-83/84+(se) calcs except I only do Axe, not TI-Basic. And as for current projects, check the sig :)

The funny thing is that Omni is pronounced the exact same way in English than in French.

As for Cemetech I think in English it's Keh-Meh-Tek and in French Seh-Meh-Tek. In Quebec we tend to pronounce English stuff in their original English pronounciation when we know it, though.

I always pronounced it Seh-Meh-Tek but I'm english speaking. Good thing I don't talk to them in real life, I guess.

I always say Seh-Meh-Tek.

On a side note, when I first came to Omnimaga I called it "Omega." D:

wow, I guess I'm the only one who says Cemteck.  I need to say it right now.  :P  And I just realized the pronounciation is on the front page.  XD

I've always said seh-meh-tek.

Also, I always thought it was om-ni-mo-gu (like Gus)
