Hey guys, I'm just curious ;D
I do it because the computer already has all (most of) the software anyone could ever think of. The calculator front has much more open room for creativity. Another part of it is that the calculator is just so portable and is allowed everywhere (like in classrooms) where computers and phones can't go. It gives me a happy feeling to be able to carry a program I made everywhere, and impress my friends. :) Finally, things like slow processors and scarce RAM pose an interesting challenge to programmers not found in other platforms.
What do you guys think?

To get girls.
Make my calc more usable.
Making 2 player games is rare, so i enjoy that.
-
Because its fun, and I just simply love programming.
Because .. calculator programming is part of me :D
-
I program calculators for fun, I guess.
-
A lot of people here STARTED programming with calculators. Personally I do it for most of the reasons sammyMaX said in his post. It's an interesting challenge to make functional games at tolerable speeds with restricted graphics and memory. It's also very portable.
-
Yeah, my first language was TI-BASIC, which got me into programming.
-
So how do you program on a calc ???
-
Not sure what calc u are using but most ti calculators have programing built into them.
-
Of course, because it's handheld and allowed in classrooms, and it's not computer programming. Which is mainstream. (hipster mode on :P)
-
it has ??
ive got a nspire..
-
ya nspire has programming i think. But not very good :p like not getkey or anything.
-
I program because I enjoy it and I can take my calc everywhere
-
I program so I can be famous for making programs. No, really.
-
I program because I can, therefore I must. :P
After all, don't we do what we must because we can?
-
I personally don't program on my 8x calcs anymore much (just math utilities now to aid with.. Math) but I do program in C on my Prizm.
I program for three reasons: to practice and get better, to feel accomplished, and to win stuff.
-
I do it because I'm bored.(And I'm usually bored)
-
I program calculators because programming is fun, and my calc is there as a robust programming platform. The only reason I would stop calc coding is if I had a powerful laptop with me all of the time, and then I would repay the calc community's awesomeness by souping up their calcs even more.
Also, I'm hoping that calc programming will develop to a state that will allow for calcs to be used as personal computers for poorer cities and countries: instead of purchasing a bunch of computers, you use a calculator and connect it to a computer whenever you need to publish something - or better yet, bypass the computer and connect directly to the Internet or to a printer. Of course, you would need to disable these features at will, or they wouldn't count as calcs anymore.
-
I fully support the merging of calcs and comps.
-
Of course, because it's handheld and allowed in classrooms.
Philosophy class is useless and boring (example: our teacher said that Leonardo da Vinci was gay, and that with sublimation, he became a genius. lolwut ?). You look strange with a calculator in a Philosophy class, but less than with a computer. So I need games to not be bored, but sometimes, I can't find the game I am looking for so I make it.
-
I think it's just fun. I come from a mostly nerd school, so being a called a nerd is a complement. :P
-
I do it because axeis a relatively easy language that's constabtly being updated - also because it's unobtrusove in your average classroom ^^
-
Because it's so much fun!
-
It's a way to express my creativeness.
-
It is part of me.
'Nuff Said.
-
I still use my TI because it's easier to write a simulation program very quickly for a calculator in Axe or BASIC than a "real" language.
I use my Prizm because of 133. 'Nuff said :P
