Simul 2 is a complete rewrite of my first Axe game, Simul (http://www.omnimaga.org/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=580). As before, it's a game of multitasking—playing multiple games on the same screen at the same time, and trying not to die in any of them. Here's a quick rundown with some still shots (because animated screenshots are that much harder when you're playing four games at once):Simul 2 is a game of multitasking. In Stage 1, you switch among six minigames (Pong, Falldown, Avalanche, Jump, Tunnel, and Obstacles), playing each one for a few seconds before switching to the next, Your goal is to simply keep alive in six games in a row.
In Stage 2, you do the same thing—but with two games on the screen at a time. The game on the right is controlled by the normal arrow pad (up and down, or left and right), while the one on the left is controlled by four keys on the left side of the calculator (either MODE and X,T,θ,n for up and down, or ALPHA and STAT for left and right).
Pass that and you get to Stage 3, where the left half of the screen is split into two quarters, one controlled by MODE/X,T,θ,n and the other by ALPHA/STAT. The right side still contains a single game controlled by up/down or left/right arrow keys.
Six more sets of games, and you get to the final stage, Stage 4. As you can probably tell, that's playing four games on a single screen. At once. Beat six sets of that, and you win; then the game goes into infinite mode, so you can keep playing that four-game awesomeness :D

For those of you who have played (or tried to play) the original Simul, know that Simul 2 is much more playable. After many failed attempts I managed to get to Stage 4 at medium speed (out of three speeds: slow, "For the casual multitasker"; medium, "For the more courageous ones"; and fast, "For the insane"). You're allowed to die as many times as you need to, but remember that you must pass six sets of games in a row to pass each stage. It also lets me implement a new high-score system that wasn't there in the first version, based on the number of times you died and the speed you used. I've learned a lot since summer 2010 :)

This game is made for women :D
Men are not multitask you know ... :P
lol
But this look amazing and totally crazy. Nice job !
-
THAT was my favorite game! it was made by Deep Thought?
-
Yes! This is awesome. I'm glad you're remaking this; now it'll be even better. :D

I only got to stage 2 here, but if I hadn't set my emu speed to 25%, I would never have gotten even there in fast mode.

That game looks nice! O.o
-
props on rewriting Simul like a boss! Looks great.
-
Wow, that looks really good. I did not know that you made simul, so congrats on the feature a while back (i think). This will be pretty epic.
-
Cool stuff. It's nice to see you improving on your original. =)
-
Hmm. My Duo Tunnel game would fit here too. :P
-
Can you play two of the same game at once?
-
/me wants download link D:

Can you play two of the same game at once?
Never. That would be too easy—no need to change your gaming perspective several times a second :D
-
Will this perhaps be your entry to Cemetech's new contest?
-
It's definitely an arcade game, but entries in the Cemetech contest can't have been released before the contest ends. The deadline for zContest is December 1st, so I'll have to miss that one :/

Oooh, so this is for zContest? Cool. I can't wait for December 1st. :D

December 1st is my birthday :D

Cemetech contest? Definitely have to check. Also I love this game!

I on the other hand can. I think all people who are participating do too. I guess you can guess. :P
Also Good luck, Deep. I hope you'll score high, but not that high >:D :P
-
Completely finished! Download will be available December 1st :)
-
GreaT!!! +1 dude.
-
That was fast, you finished before I even saw the thread :( . I was going to suggest realistic gravity in Falldown, Avalanche and Jump (if it's not already in Jump), as well as quadratic movement in Falldown, Avalanche, Obstacles, and also a smooth transition between games (Something fast, but discernable. A simple screen flash would suffice perhaps?)
Another idea I just had: make the xy coordinates and x movement of the game before transfer over into the next game. Between falldown, avalnche, pong, tunnel, and obstacle this could make for some interesting results. Example: player is moving left in fall-down, the game switches and now his sprite for obstacles is in the same location and moving the same direction (and speed)
You still have 2 days if you want to experiment with my suggestions ;D
-
Yay, suggestions :D
I personally think having both a level transition and keeping the balls in the same place is a bit counter-intuitive. I've gotta choose one, so I'm choosing the easier of the two. Flashing transition it is.
December 1st is my birthday :D
30+ new calculator games for your birthday. What an awesome present :)
-
Wow, I'm impressed with your pace. Very nice work! =)
-
Never mind, I'm tired of coding. That's the final version, folks! :D
-
lol. Nice work! XD
-
Anybody want to play? I've uploaded it to tiforge! http://tiforge.info/zcontest3/files/file/simul.zip
-
Weee!
-
Now that I've downloaded and played this game, I can say this: THIS GAME ROCKS! Really, it's indeed much more playable then simul 1, but it's also much more fine-tuned. Great job on this!
The only thing that needs to be fixed is the help, but that is also mentioned in the readme so I guess it's all right.
-
Yay, aeTIos like :D Enjoy the game!
I really should put something in that help tab, but I still haven't figured out what.
-
Put the controls there. (Since it could take a while to figure out when you either do not read or have the readme)
-
THis is so complicated, I don't even get past two games at once at easiest mode! O.O
-
Stay trying. I did not get there too at first.
Also this will score high in the contest.
-
I haven't got a chance to play this, but I will soon. :)
-
Just realized I haven't submitted this to any archives yet, not even Omnimaga's.
Should I post this as a complete replacement for the first Simul or make it a separate download?
-
You should make it a separate download. For science.

Hey I would love to see two things: a way to pause, and a way to get back to the main menu from within the game. Great game!
-
a way to pause
I actually took that out because it was too easy to cheat :/ If you really need that, you can use MirageOS's ON+DEL.and a way to get back to the main menu from within the game.
Whoops, I meant for CLEAR to do that. I might fix it someday.Great game!
Thanks!
-
Well, for pausing, you could have it clear the screen and display the word "PAUSED" or something like that, so the user can't see what's going on.
-
In the download description, you listed Avalanche twice...

That's a good idea. I need to put something in the help tab anyway, so I might add that in an update sometime. In the download description, you listed Avalanche twice...
Thanks, fixed.
