As the title says: Should we have a SD card slot for the calc?
Consider the uses for it, as well as prices and such, then vote.
Happy voting! :)

Micro sd? Will there be a 2gb one included? Many people can't use sd, so if an sd card is in the calc, and the user plugs it into a computer via USB, it would show up as a drive. It should support any size sd card.
-
Hold on, I hate to be the one saying this, but it's a calculator. What real good would an SD card have for math? I don't even think that it would be that useful outside of math, either. It's an unnecessary expense for both us and the consumer.
-
I could imagine this on the ARM version but not on the cheap-alternative OTez80 version. Definite 'no' for me. I might want to see it on the ARM version though...
-
it sounds enticing... but i agree with matthias. i have too many sd cards stuck in things already, and another for an ez80 calc would serve very little purpose. 84+ mem is mondohuge enough as it is. just make sure there's a bit more free prog RAM
-
I could go for it if it wasn't required to save data, like a PSP's memory stick.
-
As long as the internal flash memory is big enough and is plug and play on all major operating systems, than I don't think an SD card is necessary. Since this calculator is still in the design stages, I'd simply opt to increase its capacity. ;)

I agree completely

As long as the calc itself has a reasonable amount of RAM and Flash, I'm saying no. It would be best on the ARM calc.
Btw, isn't SD being replaced by SDHC now?
-
SDHC is for cards >4GB.
There are some 4GB non-SDHC cards, but they don't conform to specifications.
Anyway, I doubt OTeZ80 will need anything even close to 1GB.
Now, how about this:
If OTeZ80 will use a USB OTG port, why not just code in support for external storage into the OS and forget the SD slot?
If you don't want/need one, don't use one. If you want/need one, use one via the USB OTG port.
You'll need one of those cables like what usb8x uses, but it seems a fair compromise.
The idea is that we can port something like usb8x and make it as part of the OS, then create a driver for it. Only cost there is developmental time.

Ah ok thanks for the info.

You can't buy 1G cards anymore, and sdhc doesn't take any more than reg sd. Make it sdhc or people will hate it, if you have SD at all. SDHC will not take any more effort, software or hardware wise.

it would be nice, but again, price is always an issue

Yeah, and the USB port should be good enough for all external stuff.
