I think I remember this name somewhere... I did not watch nor read any of it, except a fake intro on Youtube that contained a rickroll cover, but I believe Geno did.

and btw... watching it a second time will make everything clear...

oh... and the books are a lot longer and more enjoyable...

I tend to like things with deep plots... Maybe I'll give this anime a watchthrough. How long is it?

Each season is 14 episodes and there's 2 seasons.

I forgot most animes are that short. Most of the shows I've marathoned through have at least 100 hour-long episodes. Then again, that's why I switch between typical show and anime whenever I finish a series ;D

Ah yes, Haruhi... It's perhaps simultaneously one of the most well loved and the most controversial series among serious anime fans...

It's originally based on a series of Light Novels (not manga, but not quite as dense as classic literary novels), which are packed full of intellectual jokes and conversational physics and the like. Basically, they were made for nerds to love, and they succeeded.

The anime actually dumbs it all down a little, hoping to reach a more diverse audience (although, as a rule, the audience for ANY anime other than Naruto, Bleach, or One Piece is extremely limited, even in Japan). In any case, a lot of people love the anime (myself included), but just as many absolutely hate it for various reasons.

As it stands, it's perhaps my favorite anime of all time (it sits alongside only two other series that I have given perfect 5/5 scores, out of more than one hundred titles I have watched). Actually, my current avatar is a parody of it something related to it...

For better or worse, Haruhi is an otaku icon, and it's going to stay that way for a long time to come. The second season which aired last year (after three years of waiting) pissed a LOT of people off for a certain reason (specifically, Endless Eight... think "groundhog day," except drawn out over 8 episodes of the season)...
Anyway, I recommend everyone watch at least the first season at some point in their anime career, but it might be a good idea to get a a good number of more conventional titles under your belts first.

I just am not able yet to keep memory on Asiatic names, romanized or not. :o Although some names are changed almost to English like a lot of chinese Jacks and Joes.

But I think I didn't watch the anime, though.

I've seen both seasons, and The Melancholy of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya, which was a webshow spinoff thingy.  It was really funny, too (They also have another spinoff thing, but i never saw it personally).  I also have a copy of the light novels to read sometime, though i really wish i had a hard copy.  The endless eight didn't bother me much, I thought it was okay.  It was kind of fun to find the differences in the episodes and whatnot.

Two words: Love it. The novels are really awesome too. I haven't finished reading the novels yet, but so far the show is an excellent adaptation. (It is rare in anime for the anime to closely follow the original manga/light novel)

Question: is this really in the anime? I couldn't find any other reference anywhere else online:

i'm pretty sure that's a parody (never watched it, don't quote me on this)

and it's actually "together forever," (rick astley's OTHER well known song)

Oh yeah, that song. I wish I could find an instrumental of it with the original instruments, not the karaoke ones, so I could do a mashup :P
