Manga Fox
« on: September 26, 2010, 09:11:23 am »
Hello,
I found a site called Manga Fox, and it has a huge archive of manga novels ready-to-read.  This seems like a bit of a copyright violation to me, though.  Does anyone know if this is legit?

It is "legit" in the sense that you can read manga on it fine, but it isn't exactly "legal".  A lot of sites that host manga are getting hit hard and getting shut down now (see: onemanga).  Personally, I don't like reading manga online; the resolution is low, you can't fullscreen, etc., buying it/downloading high res scans is generally better (of course, for people who cannot do that, reading online is the only option).

Yeah, and I think that shutting down the sites hurts the sellers of manga, because I wouldn't have ever found naruto or bleach (or the 20 others I have/am read/ing) without onemanga. When I can, I want to buy all the volumes for a few if them. If it does hurt their sales, then they will allow sites to host it again.

It sucks those sites got shut down x.x

I wouldn't be surprised if another site with the mangas hosted opened elsewhere, though. I personally do not read mangas much anymore, though.

For the record, and yes, necropost, it has already happened and the sites are staying strong.

I'm not much of a manga reader either, but if I read one, I would look for the printed books, just for the lfeeling of having books you have to read from the wrong side (from a westerner view).

For instance, this summer, I went to a big 3-story library, I ended up in the manga section after being lost in computer science and laws books, was kinda fun.

Remember the day the walrus started to fly...

I finally cleared my sig after 4 years you're happy now?

What's really funny is when someone opens a book, and you know they aren't used to reading backwards, and reads the end!

Yeah, I was like this the first time I read such a book, if it wasn't written "this book is made to be read backwards because japanese people read books backwards", I would never knew.

Unless the book is made to be read either way...

Haha I saw that happen sometimes at the library XD. Sometimes people are too impatient to see the ending. :P

Just noticed this post by DJ.  Actually, it's not that they want to read the end, it's just that the beginning starts in what we would consider the back of the book, and the end is in the front.  You read right to left.  It's confusing at first, but I read it easily now.
