Hey guys,
I need some people to help me with the graphics for nKaruga. I was able to use the Ikaruga sprite (Ikaruga is also the name of the player's ship) that someone made (http://metaru.deviantart.com/art/IKARUGA-Twinsides-65849042), but as I discovered later, those were apparently the only 2D sprites related to Ikaruga on the whole internet.
So what I'm asking for is, sprites of no more (or no less, depends on how much you like doing that) than 4 ships, that you could base on this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8AfCGM-nPk). I'd need :
- the very first ships. See 0:16
- the third sort of ships you see. See 0:40
- the big ones. See 1:25
- why not the first boss ? If you do it, no need to draw multiple frames, only a static image will do.
I'd like the images around 30*30 of dimensions, whatever fits you.

I might be able to do the first enemy. I suck at spriting though >.< Can it be "inspired by" rather than a copy/port of the sprite?
edit: sorry, scratch that. I'd love to help but I know that if I offer to help someone I never get around really doing it. Sorry for getting your hopes up x.x

You might try at a forum that specifically caters to spriters. The Spriter's Resource might be a decent starting point.

Thanks. But I assumed that since matref uses n2DL (would have been the same with nSDL), he needs to put an ugly color as a background to set it as the transparency color, so either I put myself an ugly color (you would have complained even more :P) or I put something else as a background, whether real transparency or white, it doesn't matter anyway because matref will have to open an image editor to put his ugly color. Plus, I don't know which ugly color he used for the sprites he already has and I thought he might want to use the same so I let the background white.

And yeah put whatever color you want as background, I'll have to change it to magenta anyway.

Well no, all he has to do is use any filler in any image editor and fill all the white that is not inside of the main shape with the color he wants.
Wow nice :D could you also do the shadow version ?
If that means replacing white with red, grey with dark red and blue with purple, yes I can :P

Hi!
I've tried to make the first "big boss", the one on the top-right corner...
As it is pretty big, I made a 80*80.
I'm pretty happy of the result!

Though it's a normal enemy, not a boss :P so in my opinion it should be exactly half this size (that is, twice as big as the player). If you could do the shadow one too, it would be so great :D

Oh yeah, now that I think of it, all ships should be drawn facing down. This way I don't have to rotate it and lose quality when I have to display it.

Actually as Hayleia pointed it on TI-Planet I think it should be more cartoon-ish, because that's how the other ships I use in the game look. If you actually ripped that sprite from snaps of the actual game, let me know how you did it because if I can do that for every enemy it'll be awesome ;D

I like this style a lot more personally. So yeah Matref, dynamic texture packs or something. :P

Maybe, but creating all the sprites in 2D is a huuudge work...

I like cartoonized versions better too because they don't have lighting fails when rotating (since they don't really have lighting) but I agree that it is a lot more annoying to get them ready.

Then what about that : Hayleia cartoonifies the sprites that pierrotdu18 gives us, so that I can include both as alternative texture packs in the final game :)

Well I don't guarantee that I'll be bored enough time to cartoonify them all :P
Because I am not using a "cartoonify software", I base myself on the model he gives but I still have to do it by hand.
edit Which size is this one supposed to be ? Because I suppose that 100x100 is a bit high...

Nope, 100*100 is alright. This time it's an actual boss, so you can take the 120*108 one.

Well these are really too large :/ the "normal" bullet is half the Ikaruga's size x_x

Rip == take them from the game.
And well, usually big lasers like that are drawn as a product of the distance between a point of the laser and the center of it ; the brightness of a point of the laser is given by this distance.

I send matref the Ikaruga sprites and the transition sprites (unfortunately, I think I'll have to redo them because they're ugly), I'm looking forward to a screenshot! ;D

necro: I think imma re-do the little ship sprites I made some time back. I'm not quite satisfied with how they blend in with the other ships.

Alright, so I decided that I won't be including the depth spriteset in the final game, first because it's too much of a struggle to keep both spritesets up-to-date with each other (although the cel-shaded spriteset is actually slightly late compared to the depth spriteset). So what I would need now is someone to "cartoonify" the missing sprites, exactly as Hayleia did earlier in this thread.
Attached are the images I need cartoonized, so if anyone is up to the task, that'll be of great help :) note that Hayleia already did the light version of the first enemy, but never posted the shadow version. If anyone wants to do it, you'd rather want to download its light version earlier in this thread and make it more red.
I would also need some blue and red shield, to put around the Ikaruga, if someone does it before me :P

Also, it's not visible on that image but the balls on each side are actual separate enemies. Would it be possible to have a sprite for them as well as a sprite for the big ship without those ball-enemies ?

Ah. Getting the balls sprite is probably easy but I'd most likely need to know what the ship looks like without those balls to have its sprite.
edit After watching a video again, I also noticed another problem: I thought that those sprites had their "territories" but in fact no, they go to the right and the left so they needed to be symetrical, right ?

You should be able to make up the parts under the spheres (I guess it's the same texture as the rest of the ship), or maybe watch a video of a normal gameplay and pause or whatever.

Yeah, I saw what's under, it looks like a grid.
But those big ships need to be symetrical, right ?

The big ship, in a symmetrical version, with no ball, and the ball at the bottom :)
Light and Dark.
Beware when you add your magenta, there are transparent parts in the ship (at the bottom, where you see the sort of cross).
edit changed the dark version a bit.

That will do nicely, thanks a lot :) now only the boss is left to complete level 1, but I'll ask you to wait before working on it as I'm not really sure how to handle it in the first place.

I'm late but I just saw this and I love those new sprites. Do you plan to add most of the ones that got posted to the game for the final version?

Actually there will be (a lot) more enemies to do after I finish level 1. For now, the only things that are missing are the boss's right arm holding its shield, and the sushi-like enemies during the boss phase. See 4:24 in the video below.
REMINDER : get inspiration from the original game's images to draw your sprites !

Lol, I can do that the exact same way I can build a Buzz Lightyear with recycled materials when I am bored. Seriously, I am always patient with tasks when I am bored (except if those tasks are boring :P ).

Bump, quite a heavy one,
As level 1 is done and released and I'm back working on nKaruga, I now need more sprites for level 2 ! Moar sprites ! Moar goodness that I can animate to get even moar goodness out of it :E
You can see the original ships on this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Y211wjZLyE (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Y211wjZLyE), which will also show you how sick your tricks must be if you want to finish the level without firing AND without dying to get the "dot eater" achievement, also present in nKaruga (that made me realize I need to change my way of handling collisions, because the current one doesn't allow for such tricks).
Note that some ships were already present in level 1 and don't need to be sprited again, namely the ships here (http://youtu.be/_Y211wjZLyE?t=7s), here (http://youtu.be/_Y211wjZLyE?t=1m59s) and here (http://youtu.be/_Y211wjZLyE?t=3m24s). Actually, if you don't count the boss only a few things need to be sprited, but remember that I also need environment elements, such as the big walls that open slowly in the middle of the level, and the many crates that are everywhere in the main part, after the intro. I'll also need those generators things out of which the very small enemies come, in the second link I gave. You get the idea.
Also, I'll need one background for the intro, one for the main part after the intro and, if you feel like it, one for a smooth transition between both, maybe I'll make it rotate so that it looks like the ship is turning around or something ;D
So yeah, good luck with that, and take your time, as I want to finish Axagon before working on nKaruga again, and that that should take me a week or two.
