Title: [sprite help]the greatest game of all time
Post by: shmibs on September 29, 2010, 11:16:33 pm
ok, i fiddled around with it myself for a while, but couldnt get anything that really did the original justice, so i was wondering...
would anyone be willing to make 12*12 mono's of the following sprites?

Well, I got back home at around 10, ate dinner and wasted some time till about 10:30, then went on the internet, read up on some topics and got to this one. I'd probably say I finished them up in a little under 20 minutes, which is faster than I usually take on sprites, but being monochrome, I don't have to worry as much about getting the right amount of color in the right spots.

Plus, it's going to be the greatest game of all time, how could I not get excited about that? ;D

Darn that's fast indeed. Unfortunately I have never heard of the game because I do not play Flash games nor follow the online games scene very much aside from a few games like SC2, so I am out of the loop. I searched Google for it and only found sites talking about the top 10-100 console games of all time or the like.

that's not the name, sillies.
the game is Blaster Master (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkPSDBlLO_o), and it was made for the nes.

it's often used(or was at one point, at least) as a benchmark for a gamers skill as it's VERY long and has no save function whatsoever. furthermore, it has both side-scrolling and overhead gameplay. go check it out!
i didnt want to make it sound like i'm definitely working on this as a new project, though, because im unsure if i can pull it off(i will try). Thanks a ton for the sprites! if i can get a basic jump/shoot engine for the tank with a couple of enemies that looks decent then i shall post.

Ok, but please no name calling. Thank you.

You could have been more clear, so people won't ask this question.

He wasn't being disrespectful or rude by saying "sillies." It's a hard expression to really explain but it's just a fun, friendly, saying that some people use.

Ah ok because I saw it often used in a negative way.

Ah ok. Nah, in this case it is just a fun way of saying it. It's kinda hard to explain without hearing it in person though. But I do assure you it wasn't meant to be negative.

/\yes, that
it's something i say all the time with my friend's 3-year-old nephew when we're playing around and i just wasnt thinking that it might be taken as being rude.
i can avoid it in the future, if you want =D(and i probably should have posted the actual name. like i said, i just didnt want to get peoples hopes up before i actually had anything to show them)

Ah ok I see. No hard feelings. Also yeah I tend to try to get some work done on my projects before showing them up, although in some cases, showing them is inevitable, such as when you need sprites or coding help.

The sprites and the game both look great.  I hope you can code a port. :)  Good luck. ;D

all right, i converted the sprites to hex and they are now on my calc. on to PHYSICS!
btw, i had to compress the tank-pointing-up sprite to fit in a 12*16(i hope you dont mind)

in the meantime, here are sprites for jason(both tiny, sidescrolling-outside the tank, and large, overhead-view)

Nah, it's fine, seeing as how it's your game. I wasn't really sure how you wanted the two larger sprites so I just split them into two (as you can see). The sprites for the guy look, well, I don't know what he is supposed to look like, so I can't really say. I guess I'll have to play the game on my free time to find out. ;)

EDIT: Yeah, they look great. Also, found out that the tank is named SOPHIA. Pretty cool.

Those look really cool :)

Just increased the size so they are easier to see.
