Title: AP Signatures
Post by: {AP} on June 23, 2009, 12:35:35 pm
Well, I just started making signatures yesterday and have been enjoying myself.
If anyone wants one made by me, feel free to request it here.
All my signatures are usually about 300x100px in size (because of another forum's limits), but I can try other sizes.

Anyway, here's all I've done so far. (Note: Yes, these are my first ones ever and they DO get better as I go along.)

1. Katsu2. Epic Katsu3. Blood

YAY!

I kinda like the small format, because you can have more images and/or text in your sig  without breaking most rules :) I don't mind larger ones too, though, but yeah, as you could see, my banners tends to be very small when put in sigs, but I'm just too lazy to do a separate sig for forums with no sig rules so I just use the one where forums got sig rules x.x

My favourites are the 3rd one and the two last one. I can't tell if I like 5 or 6 more, though x.x, and I also like 4th, altough it would come behind. Nice job on all of them :)

TIMGUL banner is pretty much the best I can do, but I really hate messing with advanced softwares like Photoshop or The Gimp, so I just use Photofiltre Studio.
You should make more ^^

Hey, I just started making sigs for about 7 hours yesterday.
If I can do that, anyone can learn! =D

For now though, if anyone wants a sig made, they can come to me.
Just tell me what you want on it, if you prefer any color scheme, and any text you want displayed.

hmm, I'll take you up on that, how about black and red, with some sort of Emo like thing in it?

Yay! Fun colors!
Hm... 'emo thing' might be hard to find though.
Mind being a bit more specific in exactly what kind of 'emo thing' I should be looking for? ^_^

The 1st one is a Baby Katsu Fox from the free MMO Ether Saga Online.
The exact picture is fanart from someone on Deviantart. (can't recall the name)

The second is the same thing, just different pose.

I don't know...a rose with blood on it? A thorn with blood on it? I don't actually know

doesn't emo primarly refer to people with brown/black hairs where they completly block one of their eye and in most case wearing tight clothes?
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: {AP} on June 23, 2009, 01:59:11 pm
Emo can be shown in a LOT of ways.
That's why I was asking him to be a bit more specific.

I'm working on a bloody rose sig now, Eeems.
We'll see how this come out~
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on June 23, 2009, 02:12:36 pm
yeah true. There's a emo music style. There's an emo clothing fashion/hair style. There's a emo way of life (I don't know everything, but it involves people cutting their wrists without the intention of killing themselves) and there's the figurative form of "emo", also prejudices at the same time, where either anyone who feels like killing himself is labelled as "emo" or as an even worse prejudice, anyone who shows any sign of sensitiveness or is seen crying is labelled as "emo". Basically, most 4chan/b/ users thinks anyone who's sensitive is "emo" and cut their wrists on a daily basis :P

Okay, I'm getting close to being done.
What text do you want on it, Eeems? Just your username?
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: Eeems on June 23, 2009, 02:33:47 pm
Emo's don't cut, cutters do. I'm not really emo, but I kind of do have the hair :P
thanks {AP}
EDIT: nice ninja, sure, just my username

Okay, here's 4 versions.
It's easy enough to change the effects on the side of the rose however you want and I can do something else with the text if you like.
Just tell me what you want done to which one.

1. Both Effects2. Neither Effects

3. Left Effect4. Right Effect

It's my first actual request and it's hard to know exactly what the customer wants. =P

sweet, hope to see more of your work.
btw, what are you using to do this?
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: {AP} on June 23, 2009, 04:42:13 pm
Photoshop CS4 but I'm not doing anything that couldn't have been done even on Photoshop 7. (which is what I used to use for things but I never got into making signatures until... 12 hours ago?)
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: Eeems on June 23, 2009, 04:46:58 pm
ah
well I have Photoshop CS, but it doesn't work on my Vista, so I have to use GIMP, which I really suck at. so I'm guessing you just splice images together?
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: {AP} on June 23, 2009, 05:09:00 pm
Well, it's more complicated than that. Here's the main tutorial I used at the start.
From there, I just use it kind of as a guideline and apply other techniques taught to me and just learned from experience.

All credit for tutorial given to Jedge. A friend of mine from another community. ;P
(Yes, I have his permission to post it.)

I've been having fun with the process of signature making in general.
After the first couple, you can start messing around more and develop your own style and techniques.
Definitely need to spend some time gathering fractals and brushes though... they make a difference.
If you get more interested in this, I can give you the brushes I have and you can get plenty of good fractals and renders here (http://planetrenders.net/).
Unfortunately, you have to register there, but it doesn't take long.

I'll contact you on MSN and you can ask me anytime you need anything.

Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on June 24, 2009, 12:15:59 am
wow nice tutorial. I generally just add portions of images together or modify old images I had and put them together. I'm not too much into advanced settings, though. I just prefer using more limited but easier to use softwares. Also easier to use softwares tend to take less time to start up on my slow PC :D

For Omnimaga banner, it will simply be putting edited images together and making sure they blend well (usually using gradient based transparency and the like)

8. Knighty

New one I made to help keep my mind off of what was going on last night.
Fighting. Police. Omnimaga leaving. No contact with my love. Etc.
Not going to go into detail about it.

New one coming by tonight... I think.

The rose was fun to make actually. I had to jump through a couple loops and tried a LOT of new things for it.

Okay, I'm going to work on a new one now.

On another note, I've been playing with an avatar and signature rotation code.

Here's an example set-up I'm using at another forum.

Avatar:Signature:

Every time you refresh it shows a randomly picked avatar and signature (there's no combinations here, all random) from the folder they're stored in.
There's currently 6 avatars and 6 signatures. Um... cool?

what is the code? I want to steal it and start using it
EDIT: hmm, and this could work for me, I do have a website that I could use for hosting.....
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: {AP} on July 06, 2009, 02:02:56 pm
Well, for it to work, you're going to need a webhost that allows PHP.
You'll also need to be able to create a folder there.

Also, the code isn't my work. Just something I picked up via google and have been putting to good use.
If you have the above stuff though, I can give you the code.
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: Eeems on July 06, 2009, 02:03:39 pm
yep and yep
so what is it?
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: {AP} on July 06, 2009, 02:17:05 pm
First, create a folder called "name.png" (replace name with whatever you want)
So, an example of my folder from above is: http://tehnyaar.com/nyaarsig.png

Next, you need to just upload the attached files (after unzipping them) and all images you want to rotate into that folder.
From there, just use the folder's URL in the IMG tags and that's it.

Example:
Code: [Select]
[img]http://tehnyaar.com/nyaarsig.png[/img]

Oooh nice AP, but PHP is not allowed in signatures for non-Admins I think. I'm not sure, but I think HTML is disabled for them. Also I'm unsure if this forum  allows PHP avatar. Idk how to enable them if it's even possible. If it is, I would be willing at one point to have my avatar rotate through old Omnimaga logos and the new one (3 in total, though)
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: Eeems on July 06, 2009, 06:11:56 pm
actually all the PHP is site side, so it will just generate the image over there and Omnimaga just grabs it, so it works, try refreshing a few times
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on July 06, 2009, 06:54:49 pm

Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: Iambian on July 29, 2009, 01:17:58 pm
I'd like a sig, but that's if you're willing to go off on ...whatever.

In your mind, think of a red dragon with a peculiar "flavoring" associated with it. Happily ripping apart farm animals and then having those chunks delicately sautéed, then slathered in a sweet and sour sauce. The flavor is savored for as long as it takes for the farmers to notice what has happened to their animals, which takes a while since they're all out to market. When they get back, they have a hard time trying to figure out whether they should attempt to slay said dragon, or accept the offer to partake in the meal prepared by such a beast. A gentle"man" in some respects. Likes RAWR-ing atta random peoples. Magic? Can do every bit of it except getting a computer keyboard to float. I don't know what's up with those things, but they seem resistant to any levitation thingies put on it. Personality always has a seriousness in the undertone, but is sometimes random. My color is red, but I do enjoy a mix of blue as well. Who knows? I prefer darker colors.

What I described isn't what's going in, but it's the general *feel* of what I'd like. That's more important, and I'd love to see what you can come up with based on the feel of a description rather than the physical description of the object itself.

But if you really want something concrete, it should have a bottle of sweet and sour sauce in it. Slightly cherry-flavored.

Sorry about any requests I haven't gotten to.
I haven't messed with Photoshop at all in quite some time.

Recently I was looking through my sigs and found a .psd that I never finished but was looking pretty good.
So... I finished it up and here's the result:

Well, I may continue doing some more soon. Maybe not... I've been horrible at managing my time so far. (hence my inactivity here)
We'll just have to wait and see.

Again, sorry for all the unanswered requests. I still know of them... just got to make time.

I like this one a lot too. It involved the most creativity as far as what I did with the effects.
Original is this: (resized and cut for the comic)

So... as you can see, I did a lot to it.

Anyway, I think I'll try doing one of these requests now.

Nice. Sometimes I got troubles removing an image from another. Usually the issue is transparency. I always end with some weird crappy white borders or something. It depends how complex the image is, though.

I'M still thinking about ideas for a new Omnimaga banner. I just need to capture more static images from our games and blend them all together in the background. However I still don't know for the rest of the banner...

If you get all of the pictures you want for it, I think I can put together something.

Also, I've been working on Cooliojazz's request.
I think I've come down to these two possibilities.

If you want a different color/brightness, that's really easy to change. So just tell me.
Picking colors for others has always been a issue for me.

Also, placement of stuff takes no time either. =)

More importantly, if you don't like it at all, you can specific exactly what you want more.
I have no problems with doing so. Things like the picture you want in it, fonts, style, etc.

nice ^^

EDIT: For the files, I would need to make some static images from the animated screenshots I got now.

This is weird. Back in the days, everyone complained about the lack of a working animated gif screenshoter for TI calc emulators. Today, we lack a static screenshot one o.O (printscreen does the job, but not as conveniently)

Lol, I think it looks awesome AP.  I love the background. 1 question, could you add a Rubiks cube behind the calc, chanage the Calculator cover to blue, and change the calc pic to this:

If not, thats okay too... but I mould love it if you could.  Thanks man!

First or second?

honestly, I can't tell a difference other than the second one is a bit lighter, so i'll go with the first one.

How's this?
I was unsure of whether to keep the cube it's normal colors or shades of blue... so I saved both.

Once again, any little detail you'd like me to change, I'll be happy to. =D

Working on a new one for fun.
It's up for grabs to anyone who wants it. All I have to do is change the text.
It feels a bit empty to me and I'm not too sure I'll be keeping the render or color... I just like the effect.
Well, here's what I've done so far.

Haven't had a lot of time to work on these at home (secret project), but I do get to do some at school.
Unfortunately, most sites are blocked and I keep forgetting to bring most of my materials so I work from limited resources.

Anyway, here's my newest:

Not a problem at all.
(I don't have the same font on this computer so I just used a different one. I don't like it as much but it works. If you want to wait a day, I'll change the name on the other computer.)
I never planned on using this sig anyway. I do love how it turned out though.

Little background: I've been teaching this kid in my Video Tech class how to make signatures.
He's a quick learner and all, but he decided to have a competition with me. He found a render that had both Big Daddies from Bioshock standing side-by-side and said that he'll do the one with the drill and I'll do the other. So... in that one class period, I made that.
All I had was Photoshop and the render too. I'm so proud of me.

Anyway... enjoy the sig~

I also noticed that one uses the same fonts we used in the Omnimaga banner prior this one (the one that had Reuben and Link in it), I always liked these fonts

Calc84maniac is correct. More precisely, a render is a character, creature, item, etc without a background.
Used heavily in graphic design due to how easy it is to place anywhere you want and then manipulate.

As for the request... here ya go. (I had a bit too much fun with the fire. Sorry. ^^;)

Oh, they're WAY too bright for me. I never work with anything this bright.

(They look pretty good on darker skins though. The contrast just works.)

In Trading card games; Removed from game or Remove from game. In this case he's referring to AP's website "Removed from game". =D

I don't feel like reading through 9 pages for the answer so I'll just ask.
{AP} how much time did you spend getting on this level of awesome signature making skillz? And how much time do you spent on a signature (like Geekboy's request)?
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: {AP} on January 18, 2010, 10:00:43 am
Hm... well... I start last summer... but I don't really make signatures daily or anything.
In fact, if you take a look at the first post, that's all I've ever done in the order I did it.

As for how long... it really depends, but in most cases it's about 2 hours for each one.
Some early ones were faster, but that's because I didn't experiment with them as much and just stopped at a certain point. (The Bioshock one is a RARE exception that I finished in 45 minutes and turned out great.)
A couple of them were much longer. Usually due to having to start over because of things not looking right or something. I'd say the longest one took about 6 hours.
Really though, a good half of the time is getting the signature made, and the other half is spent doing whatever I can to make it better.

Still, I definitely haven't been at this for very long in terms of days I've actually worked on signatures and I believe almost anyone with the right resources could do the same. (I had a tutorial and someone who helped teach me during the days of the first couple signatures. That teacher also gave me some brushes, fonts, and c4ds to help out. Oh... and time. You need some time on your hands.)

Ok, thanks  ;D

I usually have time friday after school. So I'll give it a try then :)

Do you have a link to the tuturial you used?

Note, this is for Photoshop. Any version really. I think he used 7.
If you want the second one too, then I'll have to PM it since I don't have permission to post that one here.

Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: {AP} on August 06, 2010, 11:23:11 pm
Weee~ It's been awhile since I opened Photoshop. I really just did this because I had the idea in my head for a code and needed something to test it out with. This is just a test of some code that will be available on the userbar site sometime in the future. This uses a script to generate the picture one time and then after that it's just a normal picture so there's no scripts loading on every refresh. Also it has text centering. The centering is kinda buggy right now, but I hope to fix that later.

Anyway, all I have to do is go to a form, type in the new words for the bottom part, and it generates a picture. The beauty is that is keeps the original URL so you never have to update your profiles to change your signatures. (especially good if you use the same signature on a lot of different sites)

This feature isn't available to the public yet but now you know that there's progress.

The signature:
Yeah, it's not my best work as far as the look of the signature... but again, I just did it quickly for the code.
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on August 06, 2010, 11:31:15 pm
O.o nice, I like the code idea. It would allow people to quickly create sigs without having to ask people and stuff (although it's hard to beat people like you in sig image drawing since you are awesome at it :P). Will it use some weird URL code or will it use an actual image? It may be nice to have the later for forums with scripts disabled (although it may take more diskspace).

Also, I lost x.x
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: {AP} on August 06, 2010, 11:45:04 pm
It will work like the current userbar generator but instead of giving you the weird URL it will just be:
"userbars.removedfromgame.com/images/someimagename.png"
and it doesn't load any scripts while on pages. Instead, to update the userbar you will have to log in to my userbar site and update the information then it automatically updates the userbar.

Also, while logged in you will be able to make another userbar or update/delete one you already made.

First thing I have to do is make the log in system and then I can get everything else done quickly.
Also, I'm not sure yet if I'll make this work for signatures too. For now, just doing the userbars is easiest... but we'll see.
Title: Re: AP Signatures
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on August 07, 2010, 12:51:17 am
Aaah good. It should not take too much server load then in terms of script execution if several posts contains such sigs.

Good luck on the project!
