Title: DJ Omnimaga's changes logo!
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on September 11, 2012, 04:33:28 am
After using the same logo during 6 years for my music, I finally decided to change it for real. From 2002 to 2004 I simply went under my real name for my music, also using the Omnidance tag. After a near-3-years hiatus from music, I switched to DJ Omnimaga and the logo you've all seen for 6 years. The 2006-12 logo was actually a modified version of the original Omnimaga logo from 2001, with the word DJ added on top of it, a 3D perspective effect and a 3D relief effect on the entire logo.

Unfortunately, using that logo was hard sometimes because of the way it's designed: It looked poor on light backgrounds, even with shadow effects, which was made worse by lack of backups of uncompressed, larger copies. In December 2011, while working on TotKotM album, due to my move from dance music to metal styles, I started wanting to switch to a more simple and old-school version of my logo, kinda similar to thrash and heavy metal bands from the '80s. I made two attempts during that month: both getting rid of the relief effect, adding an outline and '80s style 3D text effects like in NES games or some heavy metal bands. I didn't like both results, though, even with the different colors and thicker outline seen in the second attempt. (the second attempt was actually used in an alternate, unused version of TotKotM cover)

Now I finally got some time and inspiration to attempt a redesign for a 3rd time. I went with the same idea as in late 2011: 3D perspective text from the '80s, but this time I got rid of every rounded edge in the text, and this time I felt it came out pretty good for my needs. Here's my upcoming album cover (still subject to change) with the new logo to the left and the original to the right (or bottom if you have a small resolution):

Of course it remains true to my old logo: It just looks more old-skool. :P Now what it needs is a few harder songs to accompany it on future albums (although Die Die Die and parts of the Theola songs trilogy should probably do the job :P)

Below you can compare all the official and unused logos from 2002 until today!

IMO I would leave the word DJ rounder, other than that it's pretty nice. I like how some letters make spikes.

Yeah I tried that last night but it didn't look too great for my needs with everything else no longer having any round border/corners.

I just used Photofiltre Studio.

I took the image, then copied it into another, resized the copy down from 1700 to 1698, pasted it behind the original image, resized the copy down to 1696 (back from 1700), pasted it behind the rest, and so on, until I had some sort of 3D effect. I also decreased contrast  more and more on smaller images, which gave the gradient effect. I used no 3D software or stuff like that.

Also I just saw SpiroH logo: I don't think that would fit well for a metal logo. :P

I mean, can't we agree that Iron Maiden looks much better with their current thrashy old school logo

than they would with this?

In the 2nd case, one would think that Justin Bieber released an album made of pop covers of Iron Maiden songs O.O

... Yep, I must admit i've skipped the 'metal' thing. ::) But hey, come on, don't you have to keep an open mind these days? Crosby Stills Nash: http://www.metrolyrics.com/got-to-keep-open-lyrics-crosby-stills-nash.html. Or is that too oldish for you?

I didn't meant to be bad about my post, I just kinda prefered a more heavy-metal-like logo (like Metallica, Iron Maiden, Armageddon, etc) for myself in the future. Your logo looks kinda nice actually. Also that song being from 1990 it isn't too old for me although I didn't listen to it yet. After all a lot of the songs I listen to are from the '80s and '90s :D

Thanks. :D

By the way, there are chances that for my dance compilation I still use the old logo, to keep consistency with the happy hardcore one and since it would fit better. For new metal releases, however, I'll use the new logo for sure. Also this time I need to make sure to keep hi-res backups of it <_<
