I was actually thinking about the whole tile size thing actually, because that looks like quite a bit of the screen is being used up, and it might be hard to fit everything in there :/

That mockup looks quite nice. The game looks really old skool (never played it before). Is someone planning on making this? O_o Screen space is always an issue on the 83+ series. I always have trouble deciding what size i want tiles to be. Do I want detail, or more screen space? decisions decisions.

Actually, 8x8 is looking pretty good right now. I've just got to put the finishing touches on the 8x8 mockup and I'll post it.

EDIT:Done! I included the mockup, as well as a modified background so you can see the detail in the sprites better.  ;D

For comparison:
Original (16X16)
New (8X8)
I double sized them for better viewability.
8x8 Isn't bad at all, but the HUD could use some work on the 8X8.

Mhmm I prefer 8x8. More stuff fits on screen and it still looks quite good actually. Nice job!

I think you should go with 8x8 so you save memory on sprite data

Yeah, I had another idea for the HUD as well, just give me a few minutes.

EDIT:A few minutes + PIZZA TIME!

EDIT2:Okay, here's what I got. The 'X' is an 8x8 square for the weapon currently in use.

Great spriting ^_^  I would love to see this game finished, I might try it but most of my games end up being lonely engines and never progressed further x.x

Nice. I wonder if the two horizontal bars at the top aren't a bit too large in height, though?

Well, it's not like I can really fit much else there. Are you thinking of maybe putting one on top of the other? That could possibly work, but it's already cramped up there as it is. Plus, the numbers would get jumbled because numbers with a height of 4 is a no go.

Here it is zoomed up. I can't really add another bar because that would give it a height of 9 rather than 8, which would cause problems and such.
