Title: What version of Axe would you recomend?
Post by: parserp on October 02, 2011, 10:12:46 pm
I am new to Axe and I was wondering... what version of Axe would you recommend? (and why if possible)  :)
hopefully I got them all.

I use 1.0.3, Runer's bugfixed version. I was really hesitant to upgrade from .5.3b, because it was so wonderfully stable, but when Zedd came out, it only works with 1.0.3 and later, so, that compelled me.

What's Zedd?

BuilderBoy's physics library. It's pretty awesome looking (though admittedly, I haven't gotten around to actually making anything with it. http://ourl.ca/13090

Epic poll O.O

Since you're just starting out, I'd recommend the newest version. It's going to be more optimized and fully-featured than any other version. The only reason I haven't updated my version from 0.5.3b is because I still have programs made with older syntax that won't work in the new version, but once I fix them I will upgrade.

Why not use 1.0.5 :D It's newer and has moar features, and still works with Zedd ^^

I wish someone would make an in-depth description of the current Axe release's features :)
I would love to read it!

Mine's a beginner's guide. Sounds like you want something like a more thorough commands list -- I think wiki.axe.omnimaga.org (http://wiki.axe.omnimaga.org/) is for that job :)

Unfortunately (as alberthrocks pointed out on IRC), somebody vandalized it...

There shouldn't be any problems at all with version 1.0.5 except for incompatibility issues with versions prior to 1.0.0, so unless you've already made programs with older versions and don't want to rewrite, you shouldn't come across any issues with 1.0.5.

There is absolutely no reason anyone should touch 0.0.1 outside of historical reference. I doubt the source code has more than 5% left over from it.

Spoiler For Spoiler:
that's why I voted for it :P

I think Crabcake no longer works on newer versions too, right? Does Irene allows everything Crabcake did?

I personally use 0.0.1
No, I would actually recommend the latest version because normally in each version the know bugs are fixed and new stuff are added.
And people who make stuff like Zedd should update their program and not let you downgrade to and older version of AXE.:P (Btw, Zedd apparently still works with the latest version)/me runs

Crabcake (http://omniurl.tk/8099/) and Fullrene (http://omniurl.tk/10916/) are both tools to allow programs to run that exceed the 8811-byte limit.

Essence compiles fine for me in 1.0.5 and it uses it..
(the 83pbe-safe mode at least, idk about the faster mode)
