Title: Black
Post by: AngelFish on April 06, 2011, 08:12:43 pm
Some people may have noticed that in the past few days, I've shut down all of my announced projects. This is not because I am quitting calc programming. Instead, it is because I am cutting out the programs that I cannot work on to make more room for other projects. Here is one such project: Black

Here are some preliminary screenshots:

So...

Is this a calculator project?

What's it about?

That looks great. And Michael_Lee computer. :P

I wonder what will the project be about...

DJ, this is a calculator project that has been rendered on the computer in lieu of a reasonable means of doing so on the calc. Plus, the calc rendering engine has a *LOT* more bugs than the computer version does.

As for storyline, I told you, I'd have to kill you.

Ah.  I was wondering why it was in the calc projects section.

Oh.  Is the storyline going to be a surprise, then?

Sorry, I'd like this to be a personal project. This game (and landscape) was entirely played out in a dream and it's rather difficult to communicate that kind of stuff ;)

A 3D Rendering Engine for the calculator? Is that the project? :P I don't understand xD

No, a game for the calculator that just happens to be 3D.

Then what language are you using (I assume Axe or Assembly :P).

Since Axe doesn't exist on the Prizm (and a rendering engine is going to be eating up some serious CPU), it's in Assembly.

Oh you didn't mention PRIZM in the topic, oh very well then :)

Well, I did try to make a TI port of this game awhile back. It didn't take me long to realize that the processor isn't nearly fast enough to handle it.

In any case, the 84+ SE doesn't have enough memory. It'll be amazing if I can fit this game in 16 MB.

I also feel like colours will help giving it a better look.

Not many details here, but it sounds interesting none the less. What type of 3d are you planning to implement? What genre is the game going to be? Inquiring minds wish to know! :D

Did you use Blender for those images?

So basically is this pre-rendered 3D scenes like Time Commando or even Final Fantasy VII, or is it real 3D? I also assume this will be both for the computer and calc, right?

the Time Commando way might take extreme amounts of memory, though, since scrolling was pretty much image by image O.O (Well, I'm sure it was, because there's no way 1995-96 computers could render polygon 3D graphics THIS detailled O.O)

The display will probably use some variant of ray casting in order to draw the images. The game itself will be in the RPG genre, but not in the same way as Zelda.

Did you use Blender for those images?

Nope.

It's not going to be pre-rendered :P

Looks nice.

Thanks.

Well, myst was all prerendered too.

So, is the sand going to move, or is it just a surface + a texture? That's a lot of sand for physics. :P sounds like a cool project!
