Title: Free PRIZMs and ClassPads
Post by: flyingfisch on February 08, 2012, 12:36:40 pm
KermMartian posted this link on Cemetech which he found on casio's FB page.
Link (http://www.casioeducation.com/educators/online_training")

According to the link, if you finish all the assessments, you will get a FREE Prizm!

To get a ClassPad you have to be a teacher though.

Right click in the emulator, press "copy", right click in the shaded area, and press paste. ;)

Also, I think this is only for americans and australians, but you can contact [email protected] to see if they'll let you take it ;)

BTW, I just sent in my mailing address and all I have to do is wait for my calculator.

I completed all of the lessons about 15 minutes ago and emailed the files (as I completed the, I should note), but I have not received any responses from Casio?  Could this just be because they are closed for the day, or should I have received any emails at this point?

Thanks! :)

I'd do this, but apparently they require an address even if you're not going for the physical calc, and I'm not about to be handing it out to misc companies and such :/
Seems pretty cool tho.

Bleh... if you are really flexible with the PRIZM, this is definitely for you. If not (aka me)... you will suffer. :P

OK, it's not that bad, but there are certainly a few things that could be cleared up. For assessment #1, #3b asks to set up a side by side graph and table. Easy peasy. Then it asks to set up a domain for Y2... which has 4 numbers {-5, 5, 15, 25}. Aren't there just 2-3 numbers at max? :P

Maybe I'm just irritated because I'm working on a tiny keyboard, tiny screen netbook with my big hands... ;)

[...] a domain for Y2... which has 4 numbers {-5, 5, 15, 25}. Aren't there just 2-3 numbers at max? :P
I'm guessing here, but I think it means a range from -5 to 25 with a scale of 10?

Yeah, it may be a good idea to move this. I am definitively going to do this asap. Thanks for telling us. Btw, when does it end, and how much personal info do they want?

Btw, feel free to PM me with stuff about this, since I wont have much time later on. This is a great opportunity, one I have been hoping for.

Hello Mr. Dormant, //little typo, my name is DORMONT...

I apologize, but we are unable to make our promotion available outside the U.S.  We have a very limited supply and our marketing initiative is geared toward the U.S. market.  I really do wish we could help you, because I want everybody to use our products; but at this time I have no alternative.

Certainly you can download a 90-day trial version of the emulator from https://edu.casio.com/freetrial/freetrial_form.php , though I know this is not terribly helpful in the long-term.

You are welcome to register for and take the course.  However, I cannot provide any product at the conclusion.

Kind Regards,
Nathan

I think I'm going to make the assessments, but nothing else :/

PS: How Could I register? There are not any land other than US States? ^^

Also try to not cheat and share all the assessment answers with everyone. CASIO would get angry. Plus KermMartian is in direct contact with them, don't want to destroy our reputation and our relationship with them just because of this. (Note that the same thing happened with TI before, a long time ago, because of users doing some stupid moves.)
Title: Re: Free PRIZM's and ClassPad's

For the love of god, why would do that? Why would I leak the answers of a contest?

I respect Casio, and I thanked Nathan to answer me politely (poliment, don't have the word in English), and voila, if i can't, then I can't!

I'll not leak the answers, I'll just do them!

Ps: I have remade three or four times this post, just say if it's again aggressive, I don't want to be a cheater, and more a Leaker!
Title: Re: Free PRIZM's and ClassPad's
Post by: alberthrocks on February 09, 2012, 01:48:35 am
I've taken the entire course already, so if there is any question of cheating from the Casio guys, I will be able to prove to them that I know their PRIZM inside and out :)

(Yes, I initially looked at those cheating files, but decided it wasn't worth it.)
Title: Re: Free PRIZM's and ClassPad's
Post by: Eiyeron on February 09, 2012, 01:50:35 am
Here (France), cheating in a school contest is almost a crime: you oblige all the participants to do again the tests, and you're picked of exams for 10years :-°
Title: Re: Free PRIZM's and ClassPad's
Post by: Juju on February 09, 2012, 01:53:05 am
Well, some members found out the questions aren't the same across every user, so I guess CASIO thought of this possibility everyone would share their answers. So even if you had the answers, you would do all the assessments from scratch anyway.

Cheat detector system FTW.

Post by: Runer112 on February 09, 2012, 01:57:50 am
I've just about finished everything, but I'm stuck on two questions. First, assessment 3, question 2. I must be doing something wrong, because my graph looks strange and has no points of interest as far as I can tell:

(http://img.removedfromgame.com/imgs2/prizm stuff.png)

The second question I'm hung up on is question 4. I've managed to display the area and the circumference of the circle (not together, but I don't think you're supposed to). However, I cannot see how to display diameter. Am I missing something here too? Or do I just have to enter it manually?

EDIT: Managed to find solutions for both problems on my own. I still don't think I did the circle diameter part right, but nobody was really offering to help so I just went ahead with manually typing it into a text box.

Post by: Reo on February 09, 2012, 04:01:34 am
These assessments are weird. I have no problem trying new things to get my results, but I have to use an entirely new application for the last question of the first assessment.

There's a lot of inconsistency too. It tells me to save the file as "PRIZM Assessment 1 - My Name.doc", but in the next slide it shows "Assessment 1.doc" being attached to the email. Small things like this bother me.

Don't worry. it was because another Omni member actually provider the answers to the questions, allowing anyone with access to the private matters board to cheat, and since the staff didn't do anything about it at the time (probably because they did not realize how bad it was), it seemed like they supported that member's move. This was since dealt with and Netham45 removed the files in question.

(I think Omni needs rules against encouraging cheating in exams, because in the recent past I noticed also that plenty of members sign up to ask for running CAS Nspire OSes on a non-CAS model, and while nobody tells them how, I'm sure one day somebody will do so, and we do not encourage cheating or anything like that (although it was inevitable such thing could occur with younger users around :/).

2? O.O

J/k hopefully they got more. I think it would be great if as many TI community members as possible got a Prizm, to make them discover that new calc and hopefully make it more popular with new calc programs. Also it would be nice to see more Omnimaga members doing Prizm stuff (providing they do the assessment the legit way, thanks Netham45 for taking down those links in the other thread btw), since with the departure of z80man and the banning of Ashbad, that pretty much leaves us only one Prizm programmer, who is currently inactive in programming. The Prizm needs to be more known here too, since a lot of Omni members don't visit other calc sites as often as Omni and migth be missing out a lot.

Btw I found the system specs requirements for the full (paid) version of the emulator:

System Requirements

Operating Systems:
Windows® XP Home Edition, Windows® XP Professional (32-bit), Windows Vista® (32-bit), Windows® 7 (32-bit/64-bit) Your hardware configuration needs higher than functionalities that operating system recommends.

Computer:
IBM PC/AT or compatible computer Computer with one of the Windows® operating systems pre-installed (Excluding computers with an upgraded operating system and self-built computers.)

Disk Space:
 100MB for installation and uninstall

Note:
Actual requirements and product functionality may vary based on your system configuration and operating system.

Other:
USB port for direct connection. Do not connect via a USB hub. Video adapter and display must support resolution of XGA (1024x768) or higher, 16 bit or higher system color. Internet Explore® 6.0 or later. CD-ROM drive Adobe® Reader® 6.0 or later. Microsoft® Excel® 2000, Microsoft® Excel® 2003, Microsoft® Excel® 2007 or Microsoft® Excel® 2010

http://www.shopcasio.com/product/9352

In case this might help. If you got a 64 bit OS, then it may not work unless it's Seven.

yeah I'm not sure how limited their limited supply will be because at the beginning of the tutorials it asked that you try to finish in 90 days so your trial doesn't run out. That sounds to me like they expect to have supplies lasting for quite a while.

I'm glad that this is open to most people so that more people can get on the prizm and make some amazing programs. I know I have a few ideas for what to make

Awesome o.o I hope I can obtain one! The Prizm emulator has so far shown me that this calculator was designed for what TI calls "Mathprint" because it is very intuitive. Even methods that are not explained are easily found. For example, I thought:
"It would be cool if I could press the fraction button between two numbers and have it split up as a fraction." And then I thought, "Hmm, let me try this!" Then I tried it and I was like this:
 O.O

That is definitely cheating :/ I am pretty sure they wouldn't be happy with that. Keep in mind, this is a promotional thing. They want to teach people how to use their calculators and the whole process works very well, actually. The main thing they want is to see if we can learn how to use their calculators and more importantly abuse their functions. They want us to think critically about tasks which is perfect for us because we are programmers-- we do this all the time.

saintrunner it shouldnt take too much time to do. It only took me ~3 hours and I watched most of the tutorials. you could get by with just the guide and probably do it in ~1 hour. is it about the outliers?
Title: Re: Free PRIZM's and ClassPad's
Post by: saintrunner on February 11, 2012, 07:52:42 pm
4.   In Statistics, enter the following table of values into List 1:
44   38   22   46   60   57
58   53   44   33   42   48

a.)   Create a Med-Box (Box and Whisker) Plot.  The screenshot should display the Med-Box plot and the value of Q3, using the Trace function.
b.)   Find the mean, standard deviation, Q1, median, and mode of the data.

c.)   What is the smallest integer value (greater than 45) that you could add to the data list in order to create an outlier?  What impact does the outlier then have on the mean and median?
Title: Re: Free PRIZM's and ClassPad's
Post by: Yeong on February 11, 2012, 07:59:45 pm
I'll give you hint with 4c.
Outliers can be found with this formula:
Outlier > 1.5(Q3-Q1)+Q3 or
Outlier < 1.5(Q3-Q1)-Q1

Title: Re: Free PRIZM's and ClassPad's

I'd like to know where I can learn C for the Prizm :D (which I'm sure making an interpreted language in would be easy, Xeda ;)) and Lua if the Prizm accepts that too.

EDIT: I found this page (http://prizmwiki.omnimaga.org/wiki/.g3a_files) so I'm thinking mayyybbbeeeee making an on-computer editor. ;)

I found some threads on Cemetech.

http://www.cemetech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6133 (http://www.cemetech.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6133)

I found that one too :D I guess documentation will come with the SDK?

Yes. From what I've read, mini SDK has great documentation while the GCC SDK version is easiest to use.

But I still can't since 1. I'm not admin on Windows for installing (my parents probably wouldn't care for it and wouldn't bother installing) 2. Internet on Mac, not on PC.  No emulator for Mac.

By emulator do you mean the trial version of the PRIZM manager/FX-cg10 manager? Because if that's the case, then even if the assessments were available for Canada too, I wouldn't even been able to do them then, because I ran through my entire 90 day emulator trial over a year ago and there's absolutely no way to reset it other than reformating the computer (which I did not want).

EDIT: Nvm, on Cemetech they say we just need screenshots made with a real calc or the emu (although that doesn't solve your issue).

I've sort of been wondering this too... I submitted my assessments on Thursday of last week and received an email congratulating me and asking me which prize I wanted. On Thursday at around 10pm EST, I responded that I would like a Prizm. It is now about 6 days later, no response and no Prizm. :o

I'm technically sending this email before I receive confirmation on

I'd like to go with the Free Prizm option, assuming they are still in stock.

Hi Julian,

I am SO glad you checked with me.  You are correct that there are a lot of emails to go through and yours blended right in with a bunch of unrelated ones.  I have now forwarded it along to our shipping department.  They are getting inundated with orders at the moment and are a bit behind schedule, but I'm hopeful that they'll get to it within the next several business days.

Too late, because Omnimaga forums don't support flagging an old post/thread as a new news, so it wouldn't show up at the top. D: Also given what happened in the private matters section and due to the dead horse beating that occured about that outside Omnimaga even days after the issue was solved, I fear a news about this on Omni where the very incident occured would be seen badly by some community members and cause the solved incident to be brought up again more.

They might possibly be in a rush due to the high amount of people getting calcs, so maybe this will take much longer than usual. Otherwise it could possibly be due to the leaked answers incident last week and that someone filed a complain at Casio or something.

One thing I'll say for those who are getting new Prizms is you might want to have a decent set of rechargeable tr1p1eas AAA's.  I'm not sure if it's because the batteries I'm using are generic (yay CVS pharmacy? :P) but mine goes through them every week or two. x.x

Good to hear. :)

Does anyone who got their calc today plan to attempt venturing into programming it too? For BASIC you might have to avoid the graph screen, but the home screen allows some quite decent possibilities, and of course there's C/ASM (for C there's plenty of into on Cemetech and a bit here on Omni, although I think most ASM stuff is on Omni or the wikis. In any case, however feel free to ask on the forums here too if you need help :))

Yeah, I wish z80man was still around so he could have finished his Casio emulator X.x. The one Casio made apparently has troubles with certain add-ins. It's kinda like Flash Debugger in the way it's not very compatible with the real calc, but it's a bit less of a fake emulator than TI Smartview and TI-Nspire Student Software are, since those two can't even run any native language applications.

The OSes of cg10 and cg20 are identical. The differences in behaviour are controlled by calculator-type specific branches inside of the OS. The calculator-type information (a few bytes) is stored inside of the bootcode. But it should be possible to neutralize the branches.

Maybe they send them in batches and not necessarily in the order they receive assessments, or they do it in order of last name (which I hate because in elementary school for most stuff people who had a last name starting with A to M often had priority on everything X.x)

I wanted to introduce myself as the new Casio sales rep for Arizona.  Casio has recently released the new PRIZM graphing calculator that has features not found on the competition.  These include Casio’s Color Link technology with 82,000 pixels, the Modify feature, Picture Plot and Dyna Graph.  I would love to have the opportunity to show you the PRIZM.  Just let me know and I will stop by.  I can also show you to get a FREE PRIZM color graphing calculator by completing the online course at casioeducation.com.  I look forward to hearing from you.

A few people might also have CFX calculators, which already supported colors since 1995. They might be able to get used to Prizm BASIC even faster since it's rather similar.

Make sure to populate the general Casio section of Omni with BASIC tricks once you find them. :D

Erm no I never said that. I meant that some forum members and members of other Casio sites most likely already own old CFX calcs since years ago or got them on Ebay, since back when they were still in production (1995-2003) they were very popular.

Greetings!

I'd like to take a moment to thank you for participating in our Online Course.  For the past several months, we have had a great deal of interest and have enjoyed all the participants.  While our course is still thriving and will continue to operate, we have exhausted our supply of fx-CG10 Prizm calculators.  Our software continues to be available and we will continue to distribute that to finishers as long as we can.

Please continue to spread the word about our program and let us know if you have any questions!

Kind Regards,
Nathan

I got a weird email from them...apparently they are still giving out PRIZMs??? This is all very confusing.

Quote from: email
Hi all,

This is a quick note to clarify that if you've already received a note asking you to choose between the Prizm calculator and the software then you're still able to receive that calculator.  We've had such a demand for the calculator in the past several weeks that I already assumed you would choose it (and wanted to let everybody know ASAP so as few people as possible would be caught high and dry at the end).

Sorry for worrying you!  Please go ahead and reply to my final "Congratulations" email with your selection, address and phone number and we'll get you taken care of.

Kind Regards,
Nathan

What they mean is that if you already requested a Prizm, they have you down and you're going to receive one, but if you haven't finished your assessments yet, you can only go for the emulator license.

They have exactly enough Prizms for the people who requested them and aren't accepting any more Prizm requests.

Hey, thanks!  It's been a while I know, but with a new Prizm (and 2 Nspires on the way *.*) I figure I will try my hand at C and get more involved (I'm planning on learning C with one of my friends).  We'll see what comes of this...

@buttsfredkin: From what I can tell, there were 2 emails sent out (I got the one about them running out of Prizms).  Basically, it boils down to this: If you already started the assessments, you can still get a Prizm, but you need to finish fast.  If you haven't started yet but were planning to, then you are SOL <_<.

Hey, sorry that wasn't clear.  Here's the situation...  I had about 20 submissions and only the first 5 were able to receive Prizms (because we ran out).  So I sent a private email to ONLY those 5 to let them (you) know that the "I ran out of Prizms" didn't apply to them.  You still have one coming (in fact, I'm processing submissions right now).

But I needed to send out the response ASAP to keep people from getting ticked off about not getting a calculator; I know the calculators are a lot more popular than the software and it would be uncool to string people along.

I think there was some confusion about this on cemetech.net also, if you want to post there too. ;)

Hello, Mr. Austin! I must say that this Prizm has been helping me out. I was in Differential Equations and a friend needed a calculator, so I let him use my TI-84+SE calculator and I got to play with the Prizm. It was very lovely to use indeed :)

I just got an email and they are completely out of the prizms, but you can still get the emulator if you get the assignments.   =)

Welcome to both Austin and TI-Over9000. :D Also Austin question: Are you considering eventually opening the test to Canada, France and various other countries? A lot of people have complained about how the test and calculators were limited to United States.

As for the emulator I guess some people might want it more than the real calculator too because they might like to try stuff on the emulator prior sending it to their calculator, especially those who create programs and want to make sure they're bug-free.
