OmnomIRC seems to suck bandwidth
« on: October 01, 2011, 01:56:27 pm »
My dad and I have been experiencing problems with the internet (Pages won't load, slow loading, etc.). We found out that if I close omnomIRC, the problem is resolved. I have checked TCPView and it says that every time I open omnomIRC, 7-15 new connections are made with netham45.org.

Is there any way this could be fixed?

Thanks,

flyingfisch

I think there has been some issues with the new update to Omnom that is slowing down everybody. Firefox just downright stops responding, so right now just keep it disabled when you aren't using it. Hopefully Netham fixes this soon.

How do I disable it? The toggle button?

Yes, the toggle button disables/enables it.

We might completely disable OmnomIRC until the problem is fixed.

That would be a good idea. We could still use IRC clients, though, right?

Yep. You can always point your IRC client to either irc.efnet.org or irc.omnimaga.org and /join #omnimaga.

This is seconded! O_O And I thought it was Mozilla's fault... :P

I disabled OmnomIRC for Firefox and Opera users until it gets solved.

This is not a problem for me, but I sometimes see the spinning circle of a page loading never go away, and that is only when I log on (and therefore am using OmnonIRC). This is with Google Chrome.

In addition, OmnomIRC really slows down loading when I am on my iPod touch, so could a mobile version of Omnimaga be made that just has a plain blue background, no avatars, and Omnom disabled by default?

Edit: Never mind, Omnimaga already has a mobile site.

I noticed once I had OmnomIRC Full open in the background then suddenly my browser (Opera) froze completely, but I did not notice any insane memory leak or something. I did notice, however, that OmnomIRC connections were capped at 2 click per 10 minutes instead of 5 in about a minute. Eg if you click on a channel tab twice, then third time nothing will show up anymore, so you need to wait about 10 minutes before OmnomIRC works again for you.

IMHO if OmnomIRC is still causing issues for some people, it should temporarily be disabled completely until the problem is found.
