Just to make it clear, OmnomIRC was not created by me. It was created by Netham45. He even has special admin priviledges on the forums, hence his different member group than the rest of the purple one. I am not a PHP, JS nor AJAX coder. This means that any OmnomIRC suggestions that can be asked here can only be answered by him.
Right now my suggestion would be the merging of the forum online list with the OmnomIRC one, making it refresh every minute instead of 20 seconds and have the SpyBot45 so when Netham45 connection dies, the bot automatically reboots, so it won't stop working for entire weeks. Also allowing individual members to disable OmnomIRC on cookie basis would be nice, so people on slow machines can browse the forums fine.
-
Update: sub-forum created for OmnomIRC. Read the sub-forum description for more info.

I think merging them and extending the refresh time would be good ideas. Also, being able to disable it completely would be nice, but doesn't it already do that when you hide it?
-
It is already merged actually :P
As for disabling OmnomIRC it would be nice in future versions actually.
-
Idea: Lower the refresh rate even more, but change it to, say, 500 ms when the focus is in the chat window.
Or maybe a refresh button.
-
That would be a bit CPU intensive I think. If we did that we would have to disable OmnomIRC by default for new joining members.
And aww, Netham45 edited my forum description D:

No I didn't.
I don't have access to that, unless I go muck around with the database(which is a good way to break stuff)

I couldn't do that that low.
I'm planning on rewriting a lot of OmnomIRC soon, so I'm going to hold off on major feature requests like that, too.
-
Aw ok so then someone changed it. It said "Harrass Netham45 for new OmnomIRC features there" XD

D: No harassing me, I'll explode.
-
Yeah, I noticed. :P

To quote SpyBot,
(O) New post by ztrumpet in I\'m new...-ish http://tinyurl.com/24zzzc9#69867
It added an extra \ in there. :)
-
And the number-color bug isn't fixed yet (I think).

number-color bug?
-
The one where if the post title starts with a number, that is read as part of the color for the SpyBot post.
-

Fixed.
-
Great, but aww, I can't take advantage of SpyBot glitches anymore :P
-
You mean glitches to have the topic name a different color and the like? :P
-
Suggestion: Have the online list so forum nicks are clickable. If it's possible feel free to delete the # char at the beginning. If it isn't, then could you re-add the o logo at the beginning of forum nicknames again because now both forum and IRC nicks has a # in front of them.
-
is it possible for Omnom to show Randomness posts since its member-only anyway, but not on the actual channel?
-
It'd be too cluttered, then :P
-
true. :P
but I don't like refreshing to see if I missed any pf them. ;)
-
I would rather prefer not.
-
A request: italicizing text in /slashes/ and bolding text in *asterisks*, like with Mibbit and some other clients.
-
THat might be an idea actually. It might be hard to not screw up certain text, though. X.x
-
also, when I click on a person's name who's using the omnomIRC, it brings me to MY profile.
It would be cool If I could just click to go to their profile ;)
-
Erm, normally it should bring you to their profile. It might be an issue with your browser or Netham45 did an error while coding it. In Opera it brings me to the right profile.
EDIT: Tested in Chrome, Firefox and Opera: works fine. In IE, it brings me to my profile, though. Conclusion: Internet Explorer sucks. You might want to check http://www.abetterbrowser.org/
-
It works for me too...
I know it searches for the member before landing on the profile page. Can you check if member search works?
EDIT: What browser do you use?
-
It works in IE 9 (for me, anyway).
-
I think he uses IE8, because I tried in it and it didn't work, while it worked on others (including IE9, as TC01 mentions). IE9 is in beta, though, so backup everything before installing. I heard some people ran it fine, but I also heard horror stories about messed up Windows installs...

No way, Windows can crash? :o
J/k, but anyway, I thought the final release was out. Must be getting ahead of myself :P
And yeah, just tried, and it doesn't work in IE8.
-
Yeah, apparently Windows can crash. I only get about one program crash per hour on XP, though.
I noticed Netham45 was not active much lately, though. I guess this will take a while to get fixed.
-

Nice, that's better than my calculator.
And a less important request: Making the links plain (no underline) in the chat box. The links stand out a little too much, IMO.
-
Oh, we tried that, but they did not stand out enough :(. I kinda prefer them as link. Otherwise newer users will not even notice they are even links at all, especially with the color in IRC text.
-
Oh, that makes sense, then.
EDIT: And just wondering: What's that (O) in SpyBot45's posts?
-
It's to make it easier to distinguish post notices from the rest. It was gonna show (C) for Cemetech, but then we removed notices for all other sites.
-
*bump* my suggestion for a Refresh button.
-
Doesn't it already refresh? ???
-
Doesn't it already refresh? ???
Yeah, but sometimes, when activity's really high, I miss a lot of posts because it updates every 8 seconds.
And speaking of that, shouldn't the refresh rate be raised a bit? We're not on 1and1 anymore :D
-
Oh I see.
Well... Tribal just went in the code and managed to change it to every 2 seconds.
-

Great! And another suggestion: Removing SpyBot's <name> tag. It's not really needed, especially with the (O) that's there.
-
Oh it normally is removed, but only when its nickname is SpyBot45 or OmnomBot. Netham45 should add SpyBot46 to the list, too.
-
Another suggestion for Jarvis: making the command !quotes (with the extra 's') post the omniurl link to the funny quotes list. That way people can find it easily.
-
A bug that has been annoying me for months now,
xmlhttp is not defined
if (xmlhttp.readyState == 4)
OmnomIRC.html (line 55)
You should probably add a test to make sure xmlhttp is defined before you do that check.

That would be a good idea and possibly reduce quote spam.A bug that has been annoying me for months now,

if (xmlhttp.readyState == 4)
OmnomIRC.html (line 55)
You should probably add a test to make sure xmlhttp is defined before you do that check.
What is that? What does happen with this bug?
-
It's just a variable that is being tested for is undefined. Nothing adverse happens other then my console filling up with >9000 errors from it :(
-

I just edited the if line so it reads 'if (xmlhttp && xml.readyState == 4)' on both the full and normal OmnomIRC, tell me if that fixed the issue.
EDIT: Change didn't go through earlier, fixed now
EDIT2: Apparently that didn't work, and a change later I think it's fixed
-
Cool to hear, good job Tribal. ;D
-
Addition of /clear that clears OmnomIRC window, could be useful at some point ;D
-
I'M unsure if that would be possible, though, due to how OmnomIRC is currently done. O.O
Currently, it uses an iFrame that loads a page showing the last 15 lines of chat.
-
*bump*
There are still bugs with HTML entities. It's weird: & shows up as &, meaning it got encoded twice (&amp;, maybe?), and the same with ". But for some reason é and the "actual" special chars don't get encoded.
Also, a suggestion: How about disabling Omnom when the user leaves the page, and enabling it when he returns? Then we wouldn't have to worry about timing out and all that stuff.

That sounds like a great idea, and it's completely doable too.
-
My request? Make it work right for Firefox Version 3.6.x :P
As you can see, it shows as normal text for some reason as of late.
-
Strange, I'm in FF 3.6.15 and it works fine for me.
-
hmm, maybe it's something wrong with my settings?
-
Strange, I don't have this problem. I use Opera though so I haven't tried in FF.

Works fine with Opera 11.01 (my favorite :)), FF3.6, FF4 RC, FF4.0 Final, and Chrome, all on WinXP.
-
My concern, though, is that it used to work fine in FF before. Maybe Netham45 broke something or FF broke something.
Does it works fine on FF4?
-
I am in FF and it works just fine.

Just tested on FF4. Works fine here.
-
Hmm, I've had that happen before. I don't remember what I was using...
-

Done(finally)
-
Woohoo I'm glad they were finally added. :D
Also I'm glad the o logo was added back, since it was getting hard to tell if someone was on IRC or the forums or both. (Some people got OmnomIRC disabled and aren't on IRC)
EDIT: Bug report (at least in Opera): When clicking a nickname, it opens the profile inside the user list instead of refreshing the page. O.O
-
I don't seem tog et that bug, DJ, but the names aren't clickable either. But looking at the big IRC, that seems to have clickable names.
-
I don't experience the bug, I can't press OmnomIRC names.
/offtopic: DJ, that Opera version is outdated, or maybe it's not like mine (which I downloaded a few days ago)
-
@Graph He fixed it shortly after I posted this, so it should be fine now.
@Scout It's because I hate the Opera 10/11 theme or any theme that looks like Chrome, FF4 or IE9 default themes, so while I use Opera 11, I decided to install an Opera 8-9 style theme instead.

I see, also it seems all browsers are imitating Chrome tabs style, Opera, Firefox 4, IE9, all did it!
-
With FF4 you can disable the bar on top so it's like old browsers...
Myself I kind of like the one-button menu thing. A lot cleaner, imo.
-
Yeah I know. Also I discovered it's possible to do it in IE too. Personally I dislike the 1 button thing since I was always used to finding my options fast in the menus. Now I have to search a few extra seconds everytime in the 1-button menu X.x. To each his own, I guess.
-
Yeah that's my biggest issue with chrome. One button menu allows for more page space, but it makes it harder to find stuff.
-
Simple bug: Omnom logo is outlined in some browsers.
-
I assume this is IE? :P I noticed that as well actually. I could only reproduce it in it, though. ALso in Firefox there's a vertical scrollbar in the chat area, but not enough to hide text.
-
Nope, Firefox in Ubuntu.
-
Stop pointing out how my code sucks! D:
-
Weird. By the way I like the OmnomIRC disabling link. I hope you can manage to get it to work in all browsers (well... IE doesn't count, though).
-
Is now working in all browsers
-
I doubt IE counts, but do you think you could maybe move/rename the files to force a cache/cookie update on everyone? That way, users who don't login often will not keep asking every few hour why OmnomIRC is broken because they forgot to clear their cache.
Also after cache/cookie clearing, it's confirmed to work in FF and Chrome. In Opera it already worked.
However, in Firefox the space between text lines is too large, causing some text to be hidden and a vertical scrollbar to appear.
