I like it! I'll try to come up with something. Oh! How about, if DJ is there, you can play some of his songs on the dance floor or something like that? How about they become available on the jukebox?
as for me im not to sure as to what to call it and no idea what to use as my hint ...as long as its not the latest quote T.THow about the idea from IRC, where it rains when you're around?
- Omniroom*Magic Everywhere :P
- In Lobsters We Trust
- The Peanut Gallery
- OmniLife
- Everywhere Wizards (a literal translation of the latin)
I like this, but I'm amazed that you have all this free time, SirCmpwnGood point, so am I. You could call it the OmniRoom. (Not very creative I know, but still, it's kinda catchy). Also, If I was allowed to have a hint, I think a 2-inch binder stuffed in with the books on a bookcase would be cool (the bookcase would already be there, but the binder would appear).
If possible, you should have some games we can play against each other, for instance pool or chessI was thinking about having rec-room type of things, like a chess board, a pool table, ping pong, foosball, etc.

EDIT 2: If everyone needs a hint, then I've got one: what if the room slightly pixelated wherever my avatar was located? I plan on using a pixelated profile picture once I'm done with Eitrix.Perhaps one of the pictures on the wall becomes pixelated? Or the doormat?
That would probably be a little easier. Just one thing to change. BTW, what language?EDIT 2: If everyone needs a hint, then I've got one: what if the room slightly pixelated wherever my avatar was located? Obviously, we need a crown for King Graphmastur. And I second the free time thing. Will this interfere with other projects? No, I have quite a bit of free time. And a crown it is, where would you like it to appear?
BTW, what language?English.
How about when my avatar is around, number 64178887622 randomly appears? It should be more subtle. Perhaps it can be written on a wall somewhere, like graffiti?
*Yeong loves the number 64178887622
sure. If u wanna know the reason why I like 64178887622, convert it to base 36!x.x
Ooh, this sounds fun. Will it be written in Java? And if so, might I be able to look at a bit of the source code? (for learning purposes of course)Maaaaybe in Java. I'm skeptical.
On another note, might I put in a request for a triforce statue?
I apologize for worrying, SirCmpwn, but you did see my request for when I'm online, right?Yep, it was added to the list. Although I have no idea what your little flying thing is, but I think it wouldn't be subtle enough. I think something static for each person would be best.
Maaaaybe in Java. I'm skeptical.So, what language, if not Java? C#? C++? C :-X(scared)?
C#, if nothing else. I have lots of experience with it and it has the powerful XNA framework to work with. That would kill the cross-platformity, though.Well there is Mono. But I don't think everybody would like to download such a large runtime just for this.
Your choice, of course, but the "flying thing" can be static, like its hovering.Ah, one of those. I still think it's a bit too obvious, unless perhaps it was hovering over a table or something. In the middle of the room doesn't make too much sense to me.
Anyways, image below

Also, how about a bulletin board where anyone can put a flyer on to advertise their latest project? As for moderation, anyone could take them down as well.

As for a triforce statue, how would that look? I think something similar to yeong with graffiti would work better. Also, a triforce is a little unoriginal (not that I fault you for it), is there something more unique to you that you'd like?
Maybe not anyone, otherwise you know someone would, as a "joke", take them all down. But I like the bulletin board idea. It's a bulletin board. IRL, people can do that. It wouldn't be a big way of showing off your projects anyway, and the moderation could sort itself out. If it is abused, then a ban can be arranged.
That's an odd picture, but hey, whatever you like. Are you sure that's what you want? I could alternatively pull your profile picture from Omnimaga, whatever it may be, and frame that.

I'm not sure about going outside, it would be difficult to hang out if the game world was too large. How would you find people?
Actually I think it would be best to just use my profile pic. I think I was going a bit too much for obscurity with that picture anyway.Profile pic it is.
Okay, that works. So, still in C#? (I really think Java would be perfect, with Applets and such).I'll probably do Java.
That's a good point, although I was imagining a backyard with tables/chairs and maybe a front porch...meaning people could not walk far, but I know some people like to go outdoorsI like the idea, and they can be attacked by lobsters if they go too far.

Hm.. Not sure. If it's a house like thing, I would say above that creepy picture that is actually a passage to another part of the house that people can hang out at.Obviously, we need a crown for King Graphmastur. And I second the free time thing. Will this interfere with other projects? No, I have quite a bit of free time. And a crown it is, where would you like it to appear?
This is actually perfect timing since I'm just finishing up a project (at least, finishing the alpha stage)(for once). And, I already know a little about Java sockets.I can handle gameplay, but I know little about sockets. Would you like to handle networking?
Hm.. Not sure. If it's a house like thing, I would say above that creepy picture that is actually a passage to another part of the house that people can hang out at.That sounds a bit complex, is there an alternative?

I can try to handle networking. oh, bad idea. You have to have aGood point, Java is really sandboxed.licensecertificate to get out of the applet sandbox, and that includes sockets.
So get that, and trust unsigned content when loading, and then you could do it.
So if there's an outside, will you put the Splitron in the sky when I am in the game? If so I can provide the modelWe can probably have it fly around a bit.
well, you can use key tool to create a certificate. People would just have to click yes, I trust the app. After that, it's not hard.oh, bad idea. You have to have aGood point, Java is really sandboxed.licensecertificate to get out of the applet sandbox, and that includes sockets.

C# is like Java++ (you'll be able to pick it up easy), and XNA on Mono technically is possible, so do we want to do that instead? C#+XNA has no sandbox.
Oh yeah, forgot about that. Still, I don't think it will matter.oh, bad idea. well, you can use key tool to create a certificate. People would just have to click yes, I trust the app. After that, it's not hard.XNA also means an Xbox 360 port is easily possible.
Or even just stay still in the sky...it doesn't have to be big, and it doesn't have to move. Still, you're the game maker ;DWhat if it flew high overhead, like a plane?
Not sure. I'll leave that up to you.Hm.. Not sure. If it's a house like thing, I would say above that creepy picture that is actually a passage to another part of the house that people can hang out at.That sounds a bit complex, is there an alternative?
I don't have xbox 360, so I wouldn't really care. I would probably only play if it was in my browser.well, you can use key tool to create a certificate. People would just have to click yes, I trust the app. After that, it's not hard.XNA also means an Xbox 360 port is easily possible.
Not sure. I'll leave that up to you. What about having a crown hanging on the coat stand?
I can be a multicolored hedgehog?Avatar or user hint?
Interesting idea, I am curious how this will turn out. Just as long as this doesn't draw activity away from #omnimaga too much lol. :PYeah x.x What do you think of the user hint proposed for you?
Works for me. We're already to 5 pages. Not sure. I'll leave that up to you. What about having a crown hanging on the coat stand?

That works! I forgot to ask, what kind of file (including 3-letter extension) do models need to be? I'm afraid I can't model hot dogs though :DThat depends on what technology we use (XNA vs Java). *.fbx will work for XNA, and is easily convertible to a Java format, so that is probably best. Have texture data in a separate file.
You mean the music thing? I didn't quite understand the user hint thing for me.Not sure. As for #omnimaga incorporation, that could be pretty easy. The chat could be IRC powered.
Can we get a poll? XNA is not cross platform at all, right?Looks like C# is it. It is cross platform, though for Linux at least.
You need to buy a certificate, so I guess not. So I guess it's C# then? I don't have VS professional, so I need a way around that, but then I can help. You can get it for free if you are a student, but you can use an lesser version of Visual Studio anyways.
Okay, I think I can do the networking. I'm looking at the Class Library Reference now, and it doesn't look to hard.I'm looking into ways of getting out of the sandbox with graphmastur as I type this. Java might be the way to go, though probably not browser based.
Can mine be a tree randomly growing somewhere? =P And I vote for java, and with java, you can sign your own apps, no special certificate needed, it's just if you want people to see it's "verified by a trusted source" vs "verified by omnimaga developers", you need to get some big name to do it for you =PSo it will most likely be Java.
By apps, I meant applets =\ and a tree... with a squirrel sitting in it! =DHow about a squirrel running around? The trees will change with the seasons (as will the rest of the environment).
Or How about a squirrel pops out of a tree now and then, and you can try and catch the squirrel!By apps, I meant applets =\ and a tree... with a squirrel sitting in it! =DHow about a squirrel running around? The trees will change with the seasons (as will the rest of the environment).
I don't think a tree should be involved, but I like the idea of catching the squirrel.Or How about a squirrel pops out of a tree now and then, and you can try and catch the squirrel!By apps, I meant applets =\ and a tree... with a squirrel sitting in it! =DHow about a squirrel running around? SWEET! I'll get on the protocol tomorrow probably. But my grandparents are coming this weekend, so I won't have much time. :(Good knight, and give me some time to write up more technical specs on the class hierarchy and such.
I'll just work on school nights! Also... I forget. Night all!
this sounds wonderful. may i request slight modifications of readable text around the house? (i.e. hello=>ohithur no=>nups etc)There should also be a bar-tender that sells drinks.... But only drinks that make you lose.
There should also be a bar-tender that sells drinks.... But only drinks that make you lose.I'm thinking no NPCs.
Oh, okay. There should also be a bar-tender that sells drinks.... But only drinks that make you lose.I'm thinking no NPCs.
/me == walrus ;DPutting a walrus in the middle of the lawn might be more awesome than it is not subtle ;)
npcs are hard there just complex things specially if you give them ai.../me fears a clever bot implementation in one of themClever Bot link might be cool.
@shmibs: That's not an NPC. That's part of the IRC. I have no idea how IRCs work, but I hope someone can find a bridge to allow for easy inking to the IRC.Yeah, IRC bridge is planned, and probably the main means of textual communication.
For my hint thingy, maybe you could have my original avatar show up on a wall or somethingWe can put that in a picture frame, sure!

Looking great by the way.
uhm, will this be in 3D?
oooh Oooh, I have a better idea! :D A personality core from the game portal is placed somewhere in the house, maybe near the computer or something (we gotta have a computer you know :P) It combines my self-aware nature, and my favorite game :DRick Astley?
bumpMost likely SirCmpwn just can't get near a computer.
Is this still going?
This is still in the planning stage. Not dead yet :P
And do lolis in leos and tights show up whenever I'm around? This Is The Greatest Forum Ever.
So, this is kinda like Second Life, but Omnimagafied? And do lolis in leos and tights show up whenever I'm around?Lol. We have to make sure it's not too adult-only, though. :P
I lost. But seriously, I was thinking about that. It would be pretty epic if it was possible. But I think it would require some sort of Posting Board that you would go up to and then you could view the website. So, this is kinda like Second Life, but Omnimagafied? And do lolis in leos and tights show up whenever I'm around?Lol. We have to make sure it's not too adult-only, though. :P
I like the project idea, though. I wonder if in the future it could even be possible to link to our Omni account and post from the game. :P
Magic!I spit my soda onto my keyboard.
Right now is a bad time for development all around. Finals, end of school, etc. It crazy at least for meIn his case, totalitarian parents too.
Math? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphical_projection)*head-desk*
They still use math. ;DMath? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphical_projection)*head-desk*
Why would he even need to implement an entire 3D engine himself? That would be crazy. There are plenty of other viable libraries for it out there already.
For my hint, could there be a Commodore logo on a computer screen somewhere? Or a book in a bookshelf about Commodore 64s?How about just a Commodore 64 in the rec room?
Mine should be a piano. :DHow could i quess lol
contrabass clarinet not a bass clarinetboth
good idea so diplomacy does workcontrabass clarinet not a bass clarinetboth
I have to like the contrabass I'm playing it next year in the top band in my school :) :PEb contrabass? Is it one you have to sit on a stool to play? ;D
