I just received 2 1GB sticks RAM I bought online for my eMachines T2482. I got it from pcprogress.com.
When I try to boot up my monitor does not come out of powersave mode, but beeps until I hard power off. Knowing a little bit of POST, I know this means there is no RAM recognised by the computer.
So, this makes me think that my RAM is incompatible, since its unlikely for 2 sticks to be bad. I tried putting them in one at a time in each slot, still no help.
OTHER INFO:
I currently have 2 sticks of 512MB RAM.
The new sticks' stickers look like this:
NETLIST NL9127RD12042 - D21JSB
1GB DDR RDIMM
PC2100 - 200436
0197 - 97B - 255BDL
BARCODE
The par that says "DDR RDIMM" is what I'm wondering about. Is RDIMM different than DIMM or SDRAM? Will a computer that uses DDR DIMM/SDRAM be compatible with RDIMM?
If these stick are indeed incompatible, is it worth it to pay $60 from crucial for the guaranteed stuff? (I got these sticks for $9.98 from pc progress)
Thx in advance :)

RDIMM, DIMM, SDRAM and DDR* are indeed different and incompatible with each other. If your working set of RAM says RDIMM, you need RDIMM, something else would be incompatible.

OK. So I guess I'll have to send this back. I hope I can find some DIMM thats not too expensive since I dont want to spend to much on an old computer. :-\
EDIT:
The working set says:
Samsung
KOREA 0317
PC2100U - 25331 - Z
256MB DDR PC2100 CL2.5
What kind of RAM should I get? My board is an AM37 btw if that helps ;)

You should get DDR DIMM. DDR comes in multiple versions (the most recent is DDR5 I think), don't think they are compatible.
-
I think DDR3 is the most recent to be used
-
After some research, I think I got confused with graphic cards.
Anyway you would just google the type or RAM you have and get the info you want.

Is Non ECC the same as DIMM?
-
ddr3 is the most recent, although most things are still using 2
ecc and dimm are two different things. ECC ram is error correcting ram, which means it has an extra 8 bits to work with, making it slower but more reliable. DIMM just means that it's dual sided rather than single sided.

Here are my motherboard specs. Could someone please just tell me what I can use as far as RAM goes?

According to that page you should get DIMM or DDR. I'm not sure which would be better though

OK, thank you. :)
