Title: Monitor problem
Post by: Scipi on August 26, 2012, 07:54:05 am
Ok, I'm having this issue with my computer. Basically the monitor will not come out of sleep mode even if the computer is restarted. I've checked with another monitor and it would have the same problem. The only thing. Before it did that, my computer randomly started freezing up and task manager would not come up. It went to sleep mode and never woke back up. Has anyone else had this issue? I'm using a HP computer with an nvidia gpu. Thanks

that thing happened to me once, but several reboots fixed it for me.

Hmm. I've rebooted and unplugged /replugged several times. I'll see if it starts working again later on.

Edit: Even with unplugging and leaving it off a while, it still is not working properly... I think it's running fine just it's not sending video to the screen.

tried to use an external screen?
(screensplit with another monitor or showing it onto a TV-screen!)

If you have dropbox installed on that computer, I can create a little bot always saving a screenshot in your dropbox-dir.
copy the link once, the picture will always update (always needs up to 5sec to update)! ;)
should I?
If you want me to, I can include a list of all active processes in the picture (using a cmd-trick with 'copy /b') - even the hidden and system ones. So you can see if it's a virus, using an extra process!

But I hope it's only a little hardware problem that can be fixede easily! :)
(maybe it's still guarantee!) ;)

Dropbox is installed. However, how would I be able to run the program on the computer if I can't see where to go to run it?

Beyond that, that would be much appreciated!

I've largely determined that BIOS is not the problem. I'm going to try reseating everything to try and get it to work. If that doesn't solve it I'll have to send it in for repairs..

On the bright side, I discovered that my case has enough room to hold a larger graphics card than I have now :D

A rather nice silver lining...

I maybe hate have the solutuion: put the program on a CD and create an autostartfile for it!
Then you only need to press [ENTER] and the program starts! ;)

so should I create the bot now?
Will take about 2 hours

That would work. I'd just need to get lucky and manage to get past the login page. Good thing I don't have a password for mine, lol.

If anything, I know a place where I can get this fixed for free if need be. So it shouldn't take too much to solve this hopefully.

Well, my bot will only be a little help for you - it won't fix the ptoblem.
But if there's a possibillity for you to get it fixed for free, it would be just perfect!
So you do need my bot or will you get it fixed?

I think I'll just get it fixed. All the bot could do is determine if it's booting up to windows and if it's a virus. Personally I think my video card might have died, it's kinda old and was dusty when I took it out to reseat it.

Update: I am back up and running. I will resume projects I have going asap, including a revival of an idea I've had floating around in my head a while. More on that when I get a functional prototype up and running though.

Turns out, it was the graphics card that died. I replaced it with a GeForce GTX 650 and upgraded the PSU. Working quite nicely so far. ^_^
