I've looked at some websites showing how Minecraft can run faster under Linux, I've been thinking of switching to Debian or Ubuntu. I know Minecraft will work, but what about all my Steam Games?
- Portal 2
- Garry's Mod
- Little Inferno
- Portal
- Bastion
- Blocks That Matter
- Torchlight II
- Sanctum
- Universe Sandbox
- Super Hexagon
- Spore
- Hack Slash Loot
- VVVVVV
- Puddle
Which games will work on Ubuntu or Debian?
Which games won't work on Ubuntu or Debian?

Here you go, the list of steam games on linux: http://store.steampowered.com/search/?os=linux&category1=998#category1=998&os=linux&advanced=0&sort_order=ASC&page=1

Some games are still in closed beta, so some games may appear in your library but complains about a missing executable. For some of them, Linux builds exist outside of Steam, for the other games that doesn't work, you might want to try Wine.

Minecraft was running slower for me on Ubuntu O.O

For me its much faster, I kind of like it. As for steam, i couldn't even get the client working on Debian Squeeze, much less a game.
-
The Steam client works perfectly for me on Arch Linux. You only need enough free disk space. For games, as we said earlier, only games listed will work, otherwise it's broken (missing executable or something).

spore definitely won't
i don't know about Little Inferno, Sanctum, Universe Sandbox, Super Hexagon, or Puddle
all the others have linux versions, so they either work now or should in the future.
and i've gotten it to run under arch as well. the dumb thing is still flipping the cursor system-wide, though, and there isn't really anything i'd want on steam that isn't on desura, too, so i doubt i'll ever use it.

The Portal games aren't on that list??? o.o I was sure they would, being of the Source engine...
-
I was kinda surprised as well, but that was for Left 4 Dead 2. I think they initially said they were porting L4D, but they went with Team Fortress 2 instead.
I'm pretty sure that once they make sure TF2 works correctly they'll begin to port all the others based on the Source engine.

I'm so much waiting for the portal games to be ported to Linux :3
