Hi. Um... I'm trying to install Windows 8 x32, but it always says "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD or USB flash drive, please insert it now.
Note: if the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safety remove it for this step."
Where can I find this driver?
-
That depends on your Mobo/CD Drive, I would assume.
-
<_< It's a netbook.
-
There's your problem. It wants to see a CD drive and there isn't one.
It's probably not necessary for actual running, and just that the installer is a quick hackup. Maybe try plugging in a USB CD Drive? Otherwise, you'll have to modify the installer in some way (near impossible considering you won't have the source and it's most likely hardcoded into the program)
-
I tried it on my Laptop and it does the same thing. It's just missing the driver IN the .iso file. (I am installing it through a usb CD on my netbook to. USB flashdrives didnt work either.)
-
It's using the same installer as Win 7, which installs fine without a DVD drive. That error also occurs when it can't find your HDD due to some weird setup.
-
Hmmm
Are you using the USB drive on the laptop? If so, try it with the built-in one. It's probably a USB issue with the installer, which, if they haven't removed it, has been around since windows 2000. If it's not working in a built-in drive, maybe try running a checksum on the iso to make sure it's not missing anything, and if it is, redownload.
-
I used everything. And redownloaded. And other stuff. I need the driver!
-
Will, that bug was fixed in Vista.
-
Ah, good. That was a real pain.
We can't give you a driver without knowing your hardware. It might be looking for the USB CD Drive's Driver, which you probably got with it, if it's not plug-n-play.
-
I'm not sure about your driver but if its a netbook, its best to use a USB flash drive to install Windows 8. Follow the instructions on this page: http://blogs.msdn.com/b/habibh/archive/2011/09/14/how-to-create-a-bootable-usb-flash-drive-to-install-windows-8-developer-preview.aspx

Thanks. I'll try it later.

When I saw this topic title I seriously thought of Windows 40320 O.O
I haven't tried Windows 8 yet so I can't help, sorry.
-
I have not used Windows 8, but I am intrigued to see it working on both a tablet and computer!
-
Windows XP already runs on both tablet and computer, providing they're both x86 :P
-
No. Usb dosen't work either.
Maybe I should Virtualbox it...
-
I think Windows hates you. You know, more than the average person.
-
Well, its most likely because you're using a netbook (as said b4). There may be some special restrictions on netbooks, (such as possibly windows 7 starter or some other thing) maybe search up some solution or go here: http://www.eightforums.com and post there

It's a joke. 8! = 40,320
-
I've already tried and uninstalled Windows 8 ;)
I'll wait for it to be stabilized before I try again.
-
I still haven't installed it because I haven't been bothered either getting a DVD disk to burn it on, or get a 8GB usb and transfer it onto that. But one of my friends has it installed and it looks quite nice.

I gave up. Yes, iMo has lost the Game of Life. Golly. (This is a joke: Golly: Game of life.)
Anyways, I have installed XBMC on my netbook instead. You should too.

U created a thread about XMBC? I saw you talking about XMBC on omnom so u should.
I've heard it, its basically a great version of windows media center.
-
No it's not. XBMC is a frontend media centor/OS based on linux, originally for the original XBOX as an alternative OS.
-
It also has a windows version that's a good alternative to Media Center.
