That would actually be the line "627 This game doesn't support highscores."

Apparently, when you get RickRoll'd, nobody wins.

Wow I actually accidentally a high score once :o

RIP arcade, maybe we should go make games ourselves now >.>
I use to have highscores.

Making our own wouldn't be a terrible idea, but to be honest, other sites have way better arcades that should be used ;) (armorgames anyone?). If we have some cool team projects that can be embedded though that would be great though.
What would be cool is if we had an arcade that supported, HTML5, Flash and Java games, so if anyone here use those languages, then maybe they could remake some calc classics and Omni could get a small custom arcade again, and that arcade could maybe bring back the biggest classics we had in the old arcade.

However, there's still the issue about how to block cheating 100% successfully and how long it would take to make such arcade. I don't think Omni upgrade should focus on a new arcade for the time being, so that it won't delay the upgrade.

As for the topic post, I just copied part of the arcade home HTML then converted it to Bbcode. I had to find/replace stuff so that it can fit in 65536 chars, though.

Couldn't we re-enable the arcade, but just disable the highscores?

To make it unique, games for a new arcade could be written in TI-BASIC and run in a JavaScript interpreter.

An arcade with no highscores would kinda be boring for many people, since many are playing just to compete for highscores. The entire arcade mod was always a problem, though, especially when updating certain site mods, installing new ones and such. I remember that when installing multiple SMF mods, the arcade had to be installed first, then the rest. However, one mod once required uninstalling the arcade, installing the mod then re-installing the arcade, which meant that I had to uninstall several dozens of mods one by one. Without the arcade, this pretty much eliminates those problems, not to mention it was horribly coded apparently anyway.

The only way an arcade would ever come back is if the admins ever finished the upgrade then decided to create their own, and even then, it would probably only feature new games and perhaps not even Flash. It's really last in the priorities list now.

Another thing that is going away are the negative post IDs. I think the positive post IDs are remaining intact or being redirected (to avoid breaking old links, which would kill our site ranking), but the old ones will be bumped up or something, because they are causing various issues with the new server, such as the inflated board postcount glitch (the postcount doubles everytime stats are recounted) and are preventing the upgrade.

If that would be possible, then I could port some calculator classics to java for the arcade, and I'm sure some other members with experience in computer programming would do the same.

For the cheating: I think it's hard to completely block it. It's always possible to decompile the game and just make it submit a really high score, unless the games are run server-side, but that would demand a lot of server resources.

Aww, I can't any more trophies now... I'm forever stuck with a ton of golds and one crappy silver!

But yes, a lot of those games were of pretty questionable quality That's how I could get the highest score in lots of games so easily, just by screwing around with a game for a bit until finding out the trick to setting a high score.

In some cases, games did not increase in difficulty over time, so basically you just kept spamming bullets until you finally got tired of playing. It was a competition to see who was the most bored person and who gets bored faster. The Star Wars game comes to mind :P
