I actually tried scrolling back then, but it flickered every frame O.O (Stupid Visual Basic 6), so I decided to scrap it.

Also if you find the music repetitive, then you must hate most SNES RPGs, because music in those games usually don't even last 40 seconds. <_<

In case you are wondering where I went, I left Omni back in 2015 to form CodeWalrus due to various reasons explained back then, but I stopped calc dev in 2016 and am now mostly active on the CW Discord server at https://discord.gg/cuZcfcF

No usually if i don't like the music I mute the sound and run my own song on my mp3 or radio :P
I'm not saying I don't like the music.

Ah ok I thought you might not be a fan since a lot of the games you play are very modern and usually music in them lasts like 5 minutes before it loops. A lot of the younger people here never experienced the 8/16 bit era of gaming, so that can be understandable if they don't like old skool stuff.

I finally decided to scrap the old graphics, because the way the new graphics are implemented would make it too complicated to maintain two versions of the game at once. Plus now you can see how the original looked like in the video on Youtube anyway.

Here are the new graphics so far (you might recognize some from Super Star Hero, although some were modified, such as the water which is now animated):

the graphics look MUCH better, especially the trees :D

-perhaps add a latch on the treasure chest?
-the rainbow portal thing kinda hurts my eyes, would it be possible to darken it just a little bit?

What is an latch? ???

And yeah I might tone down the portal a bit. Earlier I accidentally used flood fill with it selected on an entirely dark area and my eyes went like this O.O

Thanks by the way. I worked more on graphics earlier and it seems to have turned out well. I'm gonna do a backup though because earlier my PC was kinda unstable for some reasons.

Not "hatch", "latch". Many treasure chests are portrayed with padlocks on them. a padlock is secured on a frontal latch. When you open the padlock, you swing the latch open and then open the chest. Basically he was suggesting some sort of locking mecahnism on the front of the chest for looks, or just a latch in order to keep the chest in the closed position.

Yeah I edited my post since it was a typo. And I see. I'll see what I can do later. I'm probably gonna update the entire tile anyway, with some shadows or something.

and judging from the image, it's either 16*16 or 32*32, right?

16x16. The original version of the game used 25x25 tiles scaled up to 86x86.

Nah I don't think so (at least not for that one). I'm contemplating using something like the new switch sprite I did, with similar colors, but less flashy (although animated)

As for updates not much except fixing title screen stuff and integrating start/load/quit (since the patched version of RM I use skips the title screen to allow me to create a custom one, I need to use a backdoor to access the load/quit menu. :P). I was also experimenting with diagonal movement, but the scripts I was using had a bug causing doors to not work when moving vertically on them while holding down two directional keys at once.

I'M probably gonna try to work on an HUD soon. Also for items, I was contemplating limiting the inventory to 12 slots or something, to make it more realistic and make the player work a bit on inventory management.

What would be really cool would be expandable inventories(e.g. buying a mule to carry stuff for you) that can be gained or lost.
