Title: best metroid game
Post by: TheCoder1998 on October 24, 2013, 01:56:05 pm
hey everybody, what do you guys think is the best metroid game?
here is the complete list of metroid games:
NES
Metroid
Game Boy
Metroid II: Return of Samus
Super Nintendo
Super Metroid
Nintendo Gamecube
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
Game Boy Advance
Metroid Fusion
Metroid: Zero Mission
Classic NES Series: Metroid
Nintendo DS
Metroid Prime Pinball
Metroid Prime: Hunters
Wii
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Metroid: Other M

i think metroid prime 2 echoes is the best because of the atmosphere (it was the first time i was actually scared in a video game!)
but the boost guardian was bullshit...

That is a tough one. I enjoyed every metroid game except for prime hunters so far. The touch controls just don't work at all.

Is it story driven with a lot of cutscenes or not?

Making yourself a ball is a characteristic of all Metroid games. :P

The first metroid game that will not feature the morphball will be the last metroid game ever released probably.

Prime is cool too, but I am stuck at a very hard part in the phazon mines. I have no idea if there is supposed to be a savepoint somewhere, but it seems like you have to take on hordes of space pirates. It's so frustrating to fight the elite ones with so little energy D:

Super metroid was the one that got me into retro. It was the first metroid game I ever played and it was on an emulator. Then I got my first snes so I could play metroid. I have beaten it numerous times, but I never 100% it.

Because zero mission was so similar to super metroid I really liked it.

Metroid 2 is a bit of a tough one. It realy makes you feel uneasy when you play it. It does set the mood, but you have to grind for health all the time. It's also a game that would benefit from an in-game world map. I got lost too often simply because I forgot where a door was. I have beaten it though :D

Metroid Fusion... not beaten it yet. Insane boss battles. Waaaaaah. It's a fun game though. Not very non-linear because of the computer telling you where to go and blocking off sectors. I am stuck at the final boss. I dunno how to beat it. I tried 20-30 times by now I think. You CAN die at the last part :P

Metroid prime 2 echoes: Not played yet. I want to play trough prime1 first
Metroid prime 3 corruption: Same deal

Prime Hunters: Meh. Terrible controls. Made my hands hurt. Copying and pasting enemies a lot. Looks neat though. Not as good as the gcn games.

Metroid other M: First modern 3d metroid I ever played besides prime hunters. I was really impressed by it, but the story was a bit annoying at times. I like the prime games better. They are a better metroid experience. The action and platforming in other M is superior though and really fun. I hope the next metroid game will be like this, but fix that was wrong with Other M.

Metroid NES: I have played this for a little bit on my gba. I do not own the original NES game yet. It's fun, but only for the hardcore NES/metroid fans. Cheap enemy placement makes this a really tough game.

The only one I ever played is Fusion.
I first played it on an emu referring to a walkthrough only when I got stuck, but I had to cheat to beat the two final bosses (the SA-X and the [redacted due to potential spoiler]) due to not having enough items.
Now I'm playing it through again on my GBA SP with a walkthrough to 100% it as quickly as possible, and in a legit way. :P
It's an awesome game.

Yeah it's cool. I just downloaded the latest AM2R demo. It is a fantastic fangame. AM2R stands for Another Metroid 2 Remake. It's metroid 2 with improved music, graphics and gameplay. It looks amazing. Too bad nintendo hasn't given the series any love lately. I think releasing super metroid on virtual console for $0.30 was an experiment to see what the modern gamer thinks of this game. It looks like modern (stupid) gamers think super metroid is too hard and confusing, so obviously nintendo took notice and will probably never make another game like super metroid. What a shame.

This is a series I desperately need to catch up on. The only Metroid game I've ever actually beaten was the first one when I was a kid. Me and my best friend at the time sat down and beat it. I still have no idea how we managed back then. o.o. I really love Metroid II, but that game is massive and I've never been able to find all the Metroids to finish the game. Those are the only two I've really played. I have one for the Gamecube and one for the Wii somewhere (I think), but they are way down the queue list of games that need to be beaten. D: So anyway... I'd have to answer Metroid II for now. :D

The first metroid game that will not feature the morphball will be the last metroid game ever released probably.

Too true... that would just be... weird.

*Edit* Was hunters for NDS the multiplayer one? If so, that one was kinda meh... I added a poll. :) Duplicate entries and the compilation were left off.

wow i've never thought metroid 2 would've got any love...
anyway i've added am2r to the poll because i want everyone to check it out and say it is better than the original (heck, i even think the demo is better than zero mission ;D)

I cannot pick a favorite. I just cannot do that until I have played all of them.

yeah I was shocked when I heard people saying that Super Metroid was too hard. As kid I found it hard the first few days I tried it, then it got pretty easy. I can't imagine those people playing Zero Mission in hard mode or the original Metroid: the difficulty is just brutal. The only sucky part was that as kid, the copy of Super Metroid that I borrowed from a friend lost my saves when not playing for more than a day (much like my Terranigma repro cart). I mean in 1997, a 3 years old SNES game that no longer keeps saves, what gives?

no super metroid certainly wasn't hard, prime 2 was!
it took me, no kidding, two weeks to kill the boost guardian when i first encountered him.
TWO WEEKS!!!  >:(
but yeah i still have good memories of the game and i love it to death.

I remembieber one boss in Prime 1 or 2 that was really hard indeed. As for people finding Super Metroid hard it might be due to most new games being easier or providing a wider range of difficulty levels, not to mention more help. It's the same reason why I got many suggestions for Illusiat/ROL next games to always display enemy HP and boss percentage left in battles. I am unsure if I want to do it since I am more conservative when it comes to such game, although I guess I could at least display enemy HP % once you defeat them once.

In modern games someone tells you what to do when you encounter a new hazard or obstacle instead of letting the player figure it out. In super metroid and in megaman X1 for example the game teaches you how to play by means of level design. I prefer the latter. It makes the player feel smart about his decisions!

Yea, I think i stumbled onto am2r while googling for some Metroid II sprites. Since it isn't done, I haven't bothered with it yet. It looks really beautiful though. :D I really do love Metroid II. Everything is great about it to me. Graphics, Music (even though it's minimalistic) sound Fx, everything. They did a fantastic job bringing a console experience to the gameboy. Not only that, the game even has a creepy atmosphere. They totally nailed it. ;D

O.O Dat typo...

I didn't like the grinding for energy though.

You mean to fill the energy tanks? I guess that's understandable. There are however items that completely refill your energy scattered throughout the maps.

But it is difficult to remember where they are since everything looks so similar. That is another problem with this game. It would be fine if there was a map though.

Yea, I'll agree. A map would've been a godsend for that game.

Am2r has a map though. I installed it on my laptop and I'm gonna try it later this week
