Title: DOOM
Post by: Thegame on October 30, 2010, 05:18:39 pm
My favorite video game is doom2.  Probably most of you guys don't play it anymore because it's old and has suck graphics.  Everyone these days plays starcraft 23 hrs. and 56 minutes a day and nothing else.  This topic is to discuss  anything about Doom. ;D :)

I like the graphics for Hell in "Inferno" (Part of Doom I) better, but other than that, it was good

I have been speed running doom1 episode 1 (in  i'm too young  to die )for  ages now. So far my  speed run record is about  6 min 30 second. I  got kind of  bored of doom around last year so now I've gotten rustier and I usually can't even break ten now. Before I learned how to straif  run  my record time was about 9 min.  The  world record in nightmare is about 5 Min.

here are my two most favouritist doom mods ever!
Megaman 8-bit Death Match (http://cutstuff.net/blog/?page_id=1490)
8-bit megaman in 3D! need i say more? YES(it's that good)! there is online multiplayer as well as a singleplayer mode. one can play as any of the robot masters (plus roll, protoman, the other usual suspects) and use the weapons one typically gains from those masters(airman's airshot, cutman's scissor boomerang thing, bombman's... well duh). it is the coolest.

Foreverhood (http://www.foreverhood.com/newsindex.html)
a wonderfully surreal, hand-drawn environment with a curious storyline and loads of interesting things to see.

you are trying the cutman intro level, i assume? this is not a complete version of the game, and the bots are still very good at small maps and not so good at large maps(that does not hurt online play in the least, however).
anyways, try climbing to the top of the ladders and grabbing different weapons. some of them are very potent...

Gotta love DooM. Best FPS ever :)
I'm in the process of memorizing the enemy locations for UV.

Doom is really awesome. Great classic. I never played Doom 2 but I played Doom for the PC, for the SNES and the Nintendo 64. I don't play just for graphics so the poorer graphics in Doom doesn't matter to me. At least, the game doesn't run slow-paced like Halo and Warcraft III. I like Starcraft but when I'm on a FPS mood, it's usually an old one like Doom, Unreal Tournament 1/2004, Duke Nukem 3D and the like. I should really try Doom 2 and some MODs.

Yeah, if you love Doom you really should try Doom 2. The new enemies are awesome.

My issue was finding a legit copy somewhere, as I do not trust warez. I got infected too many times in the past because some viruses are not well known and anti-viruses won't detect them until it's too late, so I ended up with just the demo of Doom 1 and had to play the SNES doom, which is often available in a store over here.

I wanted to pirate To pirate one,but all the pirated ones were messed up  and something really bad seemed to happen to my computer during the downloading . Hence I ended up having to buy a copy at the store, wasted 12 bucks but better than nothing. :(

Well, for such a great game, despite its age, I think it was a good spending :)

Personally, though, I prefer to also download a mod that enhances the graphics a bit but disable most enhancements, because when I run it natively, it's extremly slow due to crappy Windows XP/7 DOS emulation and I don't want to have to run it through DOSBox.

I had to spend a long time to find acopy at the store.I don't think the graphics of doom really matters, it's manily the game play that makes it so great. I think that speed is more important and it might be wisse to use dosbox.
And also is anyone here a master speed runner? Can anyone run episode one of Doom1 in UV  in less then 10 min?

Has anyone played Doom at Newgrounds? It's really cool!

True, At the time I didn't want to try bothering with DOSbox setups, although I should probably do so, next time. It didn't have the same feel with the graphics enhancements. I hate when people bashes a game only because it doesn't have graphics like Crysis. Graphics don't make a game.

Sadly I'm not a speedrunner. I am curious as well if other people here are? Does it includes tool-assisted speedrunning, no damage runs or just regular?

I don't speedrun first person shooters, but I got some great times in Mario platform games :D

Sonic Games also make me speedrun, but RPG's and FPSs no :(

Megaman! ORLY? I must give this a try!
holy crap how in the world do you do megaman?
I loled at that. ;D I read it as: "holy crap how in the world do you megaman?" overlooking the second "do" in the sentence.

Also, wasn't doom 3 the newest one in the series? Which ever game is the newest one in the series had my cousin drooling. He said the graphics were hella smexy and that it was oober hard. ;D

*edit*
@DjOmni: I setup Dosbox a while ago, and it was actually alot easier than I expected. I was pleseantly surprised.
@The game:I'm not very good at most first person shooters, so I've never attempted to speed run one. Platformers are more my department for that sort of thing, and RPGs. =)
