Vote. Which one is hardest?
My opinion is Megaman, especially Megaman 2 (Quickman... O.O)
-
Well, going by this list I'd say Contra is the hardest followed by Metroid, then Megaman, then Castlevania. For games that have multiple titles, I assume you mean the series as you listed Megaman in the poll, but mentioned Megaman II. Of the original (NES, I-VI) Megaman games, III is definitely the hardest. If you want some punishment give that one a try. Quickman psshh... I can beat him with the buster. :P Oh, and if you want to see some NES games that are really difficult you should check out Ghost's and Goblins, Battle Toads, and Snake rattle n' roll (later levels).
-
I personally can't give an honest opinion on the subject, since I haven't played too many NES games. However, you should also add an "Other" option for those people who think some other game is harder.

I meant his stage...Laz0r beam hell XP

Battletoads.
-
Metroid, it takes ~1 hour to get back out of the first boss' (not ridley) lair, you have to literally do the wall climbing glitch to get back up again without frustration.
-
I would say Metroid, because you always start with 32 HP and have to refill it to 6 bars to beat the final boss and repeat everytime you die. It takes friggin long.
-
Megaman and Metroid. Frustration²...
-
Would say Super Mario Frustration, if you count hacks. This hack is kinda insane.

Except for Airman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLzCfUM7BM8), Megaman 2 isn't that bad once you beat Metal Man. Though Crash Man is annoying as heck too...
-
megaman 2 is the easiest of the series. once you figure out the patterns all the enemies/bosses use, though, you can almost run through any of them with your eyes closed. it's sort of like guitar hero :p
metroid is long, and both contra and battletoads are difficult, but for me the hardest game has always been blaster master. there is no save function, in overhead mode being hit both takes away health and makes your weapons less effective, and there are certain glitches which, if ignored, and get you stuck in a spot that is impossible to escape, requiring a restart XD. oh, and it's long as well, meaning that beating it is at least a day long ordeal.

Well, you could use the time stopper to freeze them. If not, it is actually possible to dodge every single one of them. =)

Yeah, that's kinda how it is in MM2... But I don't agree about what you said about Guitar Hero. :P I've been playing it for a while now and I can tackle pretty much every new song in new games that gets thrown at me (except for ridiculous stuff like Satch Boogie and TTFAF and whatever they put in WoR). If you've played the game enough, you learn the game, not the songs in the game.

added Battle Toad as a choice

I've actually found that Megaman V is the easiest in my experience, in both playing through levels and boss fights. It is however a pretty polished and graphically pleasing game.
*edit* Can someone add an option to change your vote please?
-
Necro: Edited the poll to allow people to change their votes and revoted. :D

The only NES games i played are tetris, smb1, amb3, smb lost levels and the first zelda game...........
-
Add ninja gaiden to that list. If you don't know what you're doing you are bound to get killed a lot.
-
Ah, too true. I'll add it. :)

Yeah I couldn't get past some cliffs in stage 3 or something IIRC, but then I watched videos of the game and realized it's possible to kill enemies when jumping.
Also add the Zelda series to that list, especially the 1st.
-
I got to act 4 this morning and I finally got to hear the famous 4-2 music (cut short by the death sound a couple of times though.) I did not get further than 4-3. The boss was not too difficult it seems, but I decided to end my game early because I feel ill today.
-
Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles? The way famous hard game? With the Dam(n) level? Where is it?
-
I never tried any TMNT game (in North America, it's called Tennage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but people usually just say Ninja Turtles or Tortues Ninja) other than the TMNT2:The Arcade Game before, but I must say they were not easy indeed. Also TMNT2 was one of my favorite NES game as kid.
-
Hydlide was a pretty hard game.
-
Eiyeron is refering to the first TMNT game on the NES, and I'd say yea, it was pretty difficult (though the dam level wasn't that bad imo). I think we should do top 15 here so the poll doesn't get too long. That means there's space for two more entries in the poll.
If you still want to discuss difficult NES games feel free to. There are plenty that are difficult, but in a good way. However, there a plenty more that are difficult do to bad design, bugs etc, so feel free to drag them through the mud here. :D
-
Yeah we should only add games that are hard but still well made. Many are hard due to terrible collision detection, but the good games are usually hard due to the way lives are handled. For example, in Ghosts N Goblins, you die in two hits and even if you die at the end of the level, you restart all the way to the beginning.
-
How about Dragon's Lair or Cobra Triangle ?
-
I've heard Dragon's Lair on NES is notoriously difficult, but that it's largely due to bad design and terrible controls. Cobra Triangle could probably be added. Most Rare titles are fairly difficult. :)
*edit*Added Cobra Triangle. Also added Gradius/Life force as the last poll option. :)
