Title: Mega Man creator working on New Platformer. (Mighty no. 9)
Post by: TIfanx1999 on September 01, 2013, 05:11:19 pm
Keiji Inafune (essentially Megaman's creator) left Capcom fairly recently in order to pursue his own endeavors. It seems Capcom wasn't giving him the creative freedom he wanted. Now he's back and is working on a new Megaman style platformer. Check it out here. The kickstarter opened yesterday, and it's already over half way to it's goal. O.O Guess this goes to show that the man knows what gamers want. Being a huge Keiji Inafune and Megaman fan, I'm definetly going to contribute. How about you? What do you guys think?

So freaking amped about this game. Already donated too. ;D

i think that 2014 is going to be the best year for video games since the 90's!
both of my favourite game creators of all time (Keiji Inafune and Doug Tennapel) are making new games that are spiritual successors of their best previous titles, but moreso (the latter being Armikrog (http://armikrog.com/), if you haven't seen it yet). additionally, the best Wii U games are scheduled to come out then (HD Zelda?!). simply put: EXCITE!

Wow that looks really great. It has an old school feel while using modern graphics. It's a shame that some publishers and companies forces you to do what they want.

I never played Mega Man x.x
What's it like? :P

It's an old school platformer in which you choose the order in which you tackle the initial stages. When you defeat a stage boss, you get his weapon. Each boss is weak to one or more of the other bosses weapons and resistant or take no damage to others. The series is regarded for having pretty good difficulty and arcade style game play. There have been loads of spin-offs and side series since then. If you want a good idea of gameplay, look up some gameplay of Megaman II or Megaman 9. It's a fantastic series. :D Megaman X is the 16/32 bit counterpart, and is also worth a look. I hear some of the side series games are good too, but I haven't really played any of them.

I've also never played the original Mega Man NES games. I've played the heck out of Mega Man Battle Network 3 and 5.

Why is it credit card only? Now I can't give them my money :'( No doubt this project will be funded though, it's super awesome. I've always loved the Mega Man franchise and I can't wait to play this. Why no paypal or something D:
I wonder who pledged the 10k.

That's a pretty cool game I should look forward to, it kinda looks like Megaman, but who cares?

The project's goal of $900,000 has been almost funded in a day, so I trust them to make it look really awesome.

I'd love it if it reaches the $2,500,000 goal, the WiiU really needs some classic love

it just reached the goal :)

So, that initial goal set was 900,000. It's only been two days and it's at 900,500 and rising as I am writing this. I can see this making the 2,500,000 goal pretty easily. :D

*edit* 902,843 by the time I finished writing this post! O.O

And yeah, i can see 2 500 000 also :D

I won't be surprised if that extra 0 won't actually be too much at the end. I can easily see at least 10-15M$ minimum.

It'd be stupid to launch a kickstarter for something that will only be released in Japan. That's like: Thanks for pledging everyone, but there is no way for you to get this game.

Although Japanese developers have often shat in our faces before. For example, even though the RPG market expanded since the last 20 years, look at what Nintendo did to North Americans with the release of Xenoblade Chronicles and the many canceled North American releases in the past because supposedly we were n00b at gamings or wouldn't buy them.

That said, I doubt they would ever do this, and I hope that Nintendo or Capcom won't sue them for copyright infrigments.

Post by: Vijfhoek on September 04, 2013, 11:45:21 am
Indeed, I don't really see why they wouldn't release it in other countries.

Firstly, they know it will get pirated if they don't. Secondly, they are indie, so they don't have to live under the tiranny of the average producer. Also, if they would only release it in Japan, why would they bother to subtitle the videos linked on the kickstarter?
Title: Re: Mega Man creator working on New Platformer. (Mighty no. 9)
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on September 04, 2013, 11:47:23 am
I guess they could do it if they ever noticed that almost all Kickstarter backings were from Japan and it became clear that a North American/European release would sell poorly. Then they could maybe cancel any plan for a North American release. However, it would be a bad move unless it makes them lose money or something.

They are not using any intellectual material from capcom nor nintendo. It's just similar to the megaman series, but you cannot blame the original dev. for that.

Apple managed to sue people for making squares with rounded edges, I won't be surprised if Capcom/Nintendo tried to sue them.

Apple should just fuck off alltogether. You cannot patent rounded edges.

There are also book authors and signers who sue other artists for using two or three similar sentences in their respective artwork.

Also, patents need some re-organization to disallow such patents.

@Patent discussion: The current patent system is completely broken... I doubt anyone will do anything against it though.

Mighty no. 9 has just added paypal support. I'm pretty happy, as I think it'll bring more backers in. We also just passed the stretch goal for current consoles (PS3, XBOX-360, and WII-U)yesterday. :D

It's the final day for Mighty no.9. As of right now we are closing in on the goal for portable systems. It will be on PC, Mac, Linux, Wii-U,PS3, Xbox 360, PS4, Xbox 1, and 3DS and Vita shortly when we meet those goals. There will also be a live stream towards the end. The 3 designs for Call(Beck's partner) that move on will be announced at the end of the stream. Head over and support it if you want, and vote for your favorite Call design(it's open to everyone!).

*Edit* Here's another interesting update to look at. It shows of a test of the Unreal Engine, which the team chose to power this game. :)

That's still on the gray par of legal/not legal. In France, these kind of flashcards are forbidden to be sold, thnaks to Big N.

How can it be forbidden? Using rom images pulled from the internet is illegal, but making your own hardware that plugs into your own old game system is not. I am not planning on selling it.
