Title: Nihilanth owned!
Post by: spengo on October 09, 2007, 05:08:00 pm
I totally pwned the Nihilanth at the end of Half Life 1 on hard. What I did was immediately when I spawned I used the rocket launcher (with laser off) to take out all his healing crystals before it could even really start attacking me, then I used a bouncy pad and emptied my grenade launcher into it's face, then I hid behind a giant spike so it couldn't hit me with that goddamn teleporter thing and used all my .308 ammo on it (and killed whatever little baddies it spawned when they got in my view) and then used a few hits from the crossbow and it's head opened. Then I used the highest bouncy pad, charged my gauss cannon as I was running up, and BOOM HEADSHOT full blast into it's brains and it died instantly. Poor bastard didn't stand a chance against my m4d sk1llz. The G-Man said he was impressed too. ^^ When I first played hl1 on normal I thought the Nihilanth was really hard... this time I went in with a plan! >:]

they are, but half life 1 have bad graphics and Half life 2 run a bit too slow on my old PC. Much better than Halo for campaing mode though

hl2 is awesome, I just wish they would up the bar with the new systems a bit more.

Half life 1 has bad graphics? It's almost 10 years old! It was #1 when it came out. Anyways, in response to Ranman, they are only the best games ever created. ;)wink.gif Half Life 1 was freaking amazing, then everyone was worried Half Life 2 wasn't going to live up to the expectations, but it ended up being ridiculously awesome as well. I think Half Life 2 still holds the record for sheer amount of gaming awards. If you consider yourself a gamer at all you must play half life 2! O_Oshocked2.gif

Only thing that bugged me about it was certain parts felt repetative and not hard enough...hope the episodes 1 and 2 will fix that.

If you found HL1 repetitive you didn't saw Halo 1 lastest missions O_Oshocked2.gif

I thought half life 2 was a lot easier than the first game on the hard difficulty. I didn't find any sections I found repetitive though. Episode 1 is alright I guess, it was really really short though and the level where 50 bajillion zombies come from all directions and it's pitch black and your flashlight has the most weaksauce battery on the planet kind of sucks. Episode 2 is supposed to be a lot longer and lots of big open outdoor exploration so it looks really cool. :)smile.gif

Episode 1 is fun. Episode 2 looks AWESOME, but I fell asleep waiting to play it last night so I have to wait until Im home. x.x

Also, yea, the nihiianth is the last boss at the end of HL1, it was(is?) what is in my avatar.

For FPS, I think Delta Force 1 & 2 are the best. Some of the night campaigns can actually startle the poo-poo out of you. :gah:fou.gif

However, Delta Force went down hill beginning with number 3. :(sad.gif And now DF: Blackhawk Down (#5) is the standard run-of-the-mill FPS which forces you down a specified path and unable to deviate from (which I hate in today's games).   <_<dry.gif

I will have to try Half Life 1 & 2 at some point. :)smile.gif

Delta force is largly multiplayer though, (it has a huge campaign, but I think multiplayer is the main part) Half Life 2 is a single player FPS. ;)wink.gif That would kind of make a difference. The main multiplayer parts would be counter strike: source, team fortress 2 (woo!), and day of defeat: source. Oh also hl2: deathmatch I guess.

Btw, episode 2 was amazing! O_Oshocked2.gif They improved on AI, made it multicore ready, and made it possible for giant battles with a bajillion enemies and friendlies battling all at once, improved the physics engine so there are destructible buildings, bridges, and environment which makes for epic explosions by the Striders' cannons and even the bending and twisting of steel for cool bridge collapsing effects. They also improved on the lighting, adding soft shadows and letting your flashlight and other lights cast shadows on the models and bump-mapped textures in real time, and they even did a total makeover on some things, most notably the Vortigaunts and also other effects like the blood splatters, fire, and explosions are much more realistic looking. Storyline was OMGZ WHAT HAPPEN too. :)smile.gif I thought I was going to get another "meh, it's alright" game like episode 1. Boy was I wrong, the only issue I have with episode 2 is cliffhanger ending of sadness and doom :(sad.gif (gah! I can't say teh spoilers!!) and it was, again, too short. That and I thought I would get to fly a helicopter but it ended right before you get in! Much anger!

Oh, and Portal is friggin' awesome too of course! :Dbiggrin.gif I haven't beaten that yet though.

Delta Force has always had single player and multi-online player capabilities.

I much prefer the single player campaigns. :Dbiggrin.gif They are designed well and fun and alot of them! Again... I'm speaking about DF 1 & 2.. All of the other DF games suck!

In my opinion, multi-online player FPS suck! -.-blah.gif What is so fun about everyone running around killing each other? Plot?

Well, after you beat the single player you look for something else to do rather then own the same old bots whose strategy you've gotten used to by now and no more surprises in the storyline. Multiplayer is fun because you get to fight against other people who are way smarter than bots, and much hilarity can ensue when playing with friends.

If you like single player fps you will looooove half life 2 though! :)smile.gif One thing about half life games--there are no cutscenes, all the story is told by the characters around you. In half life 2 they worked hard on the faces and animations and they hired really professional voice actors. You end up caring for the other npcs and it really does give the feeling of fighting alongside them. I dunno what black magic they used (actually I do, extremely long development and an absolutely enormous budget) but hl2 just gives you the feeling that you are actually in the world it creates. It's better than most movies even. That is why it will always have this special place in me as the best game ever written. :wub:wub.gif (until something even better comes along anyways) If ya don't believe me read the reviews! There are no bad ones. O_Oshocked2.gif There are very few people who rate it less than 9.5/10!

It's the gnome! One of the achievement awards in episode 2 is to send the garden gnome into space. I saw the award after I beat the game and was looking around at other stuff it has and I was like "wtf! gnome?! o.oblink.gif " Then when I was playing commentary mode I found the gnome under a bed on the first level and I was like OMG this must be the gnome they were talking about! Apparently you have to carry that gnome with you throughout the ENTIRE GAME and stick it in the rocket at the end. You can leave it at places you will come back too but more or less you have to stick with it. The hardest part was the helicopter car chase because it doesn't want to stay in the car. :(sad.gif It is totally indestructible though so it makes a decent anti-zombie weapon. As you can see my gnome is slightly battle-worn. ^^

I got the gnome on the ship too, but I was in offline mode so it didn't register. =/

i never played the single player half life one or two, but if you buy half life 1, you get almost an infinite amount of free mods that are just lying out there waiting to be downloaded(counter strike, day of defeat, natural selection). for halflife 2, you have to buy most of the good ones. ive played day of defeat for about 3 years. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Day_of_Defeat
the only problem with half life 1 games, is that they are so old that most ppls have switched to half life 2 :thumbup:google.gif

Actually, although you have to buy them if you don't own hl2 you notice that they usually are included with hl2 releases. CS:S came with HL2, HL2:DM came with episode 1, and TF2 came in Orange Box. :)smile.gif I forget what DOD:S came with. :oohmy.gif

Heh, it actually is indestructible, it's just that the bullet hole decals will go on the gnome too. :)smile.gif
