ZOMG STFU HEADCRAB HATS!

That is beyond awesome, I'm sorry. :w00t:woot.gif
http://store.valvesoftware.com/productshowcase/productshowcase_HL2HeadCrabHat.html

They do have one downside though... costs $30USD :pop:xplod.gif If they were closer to like $10 or less I would definitely buy one. Oh well, maybe they'll be cheaper in the future. :/confused.gif

Aye it does. Definitely the best single player fps ever made. I think is STILL has the record for sheer amount of goty awards. Excellent combination of puzzle, action, and story. Do you have steam? The steam store has half life anthology (hl1, hl:blue shift, hl:opposing force, and team fortress classic) for $15USD. Or if you're lucky you might find an old boxed version of half life in a videogames store for like $5 or something. Also has a good multiplayer and team fortress is a good multiplayer game too.

Half life 2 should run on your system with the lower settings. :oohmy.gif It was just as good as the first. Better perhaps. The puzzles and weapons were much more varied. There's even a level where you get to take over a combine base with an army of giant ants!

Minimum: 1.2 GHz Processor, 256MB RAM, DirectX 7 level graphics card, Windows 2000/XP/ME/98, Mouse, Keyboard, Internet Connection

It's best to play them in order of course, so go hl1 first. :)smile.gif

www.steampowered.com <== get this silly program to buy, download, and play teh games.

I have HL1 (got it used for 5 bucks 2 years ago) but never got around to playing it. I played for a little while, it was kinda freaky.  Is it actually any good?

To me, it is one of the best game series for the PC (right up there with Halo :Dbiggrin.gif).  Not only is the storyline one of the best, but it also gets players to think instead of point, shoot, and repeat.  Also, Half Life 1 has countless amounts of mods for it (single and multiplayer, the best single player one by far is They Hunger), and Half Life 2 has a fast growing mod community as well, but the mods take longer to come out with.  Also, you have the Source SDK for making mods, maps, animations, and other stuff.

I would have probably never got interested in the first Half Life again after I played it 8 years ago, if I hadn't been fooling around with the CD key on my old Half Life case (I had lost the CD somewhere...) and it gave me a platinum edition for the key :Dbiggrin.gif. Though I probably would have played Half Life 2 eventually.

When I am on my gaming comp at my dad's, you will probably see me on the Zombie Panic or BrainBread mod, nick is Floodkiller.

I agree that Half-Life 2 is probably one of the greatest games.  :Dbiggrin.gif

And the good thing is that you don't need a top-of-the-line computer to run it or anything.   :)smile.gif

hmm, yeah a pIII might not make it for half life 2. Half life 1 runs on anything though. :)smile.gif If you have any consoles, there's a console version of hl2 and stuff.

HL1 is a fun, challenging game and well worth playing through. Opposing Force (the add-on game where you play as the military dudes against gordon) is pretty fun too. And yeah, there's a ridiculous amount of mods and stuff for it.

Personally I prefer half life series over halo series. I played through halo 1 once, but it seemed kinda easy (they shoulda made legendary a lot harder imo). The flood is an incredibly obvious ripoff of head crabs though, that bothered me. :Ptongue.gif Halo doesn't have much mods either (being mainly a console game). Halo also lacks puzzles, it's all just run in and shoot stuff. Multiplayer halo is pretty good though... but half life multiplayer is pretty good too, and it also comes with counter strike... which is better. :]

@graywolf: omg the source engine is GENIUS. I still can't believe they managed to get games that look as good as half life 2 run on old skool computers. Not only that, but the source engine is still being used to make next gen games. (re-vamped of course, with hdr, even better physics, and other fancy stuff) HL2:EP2 and Dark Messiah for examples... When I finish college if I go into the game devving business, my goal is to make an engine that beats source. >:] All shall ph33r it.

do u think HL2 would run on a Radeon 9250 128 MB?

Post by: spengo on December 14, 2006, 03:17:00 pm
Yes actually. O_Oshocked2.gif Not maxed, of course, but it will run. My friend frank used to run it on a geforce 5-series so... If you have a slow cpu or not much ram loading will take a long time though. :oohmy.gif

^lots of posts where 9250 = win^
You could also dl a demo, just to be sure. :)smile.gif

Ah okay, you should have no problems then I expect, hehe. Hey, if you happen to have lots of money, on steam they gots a special holiday pack for $50 that includes hl1:source (a remake of half life 1 with the source engine), hl2, hl2:ep1, cs:s, hl1:deathmatch:source, hl2:deathmatch. So... lots of stuff which you could get in the regular packages for like $70 or something.

Well, if you don't want to pay for it over steam, they have the christmas special for half life 2 right now (wal-mart for sure) in stores, although it has less than the game of the year edition had (everything but Day of Defeat: Source).  If you are looking for the first Half Life though, you will either have to dig deep in the bargin bin or buy it on steam.

Also, Half Life: Source is not that interesting if you have the first one cause there isn't that much difference.  All that it has is different water, glass, and shatter effects.  All the models and maps are still pretty much one generation back.

well they have both HL1 and HL2, so i should be fine. I may get counter strike: source too though if it run on systems like mine

however, if you noticed in my xfire userbar in my forum signature I spend most of my time in starcraft ;)wink.gif

Aye, I figured the holiday pack would be a good deal for xlibman 'cause it comes with hl1:source, hl2, and episode 1 (so, the entire half life series so far) as well as including all the multiplayer-only games like deathmatch and counter strike. Normally the $50 pack doesn't include episode 1. (a $20 game by itself)

You do have to use steam to play these games anyways, so unless you really care about having boxed copies I recommend just buying and downloading online with steam. Can dl steam from the www.steampowered.com website.

Yes. Just dl from steam. I forgot since I haven't bought from Steam (long time ago I bought HL1 from store), but you get CS, Team Fortress, etc. right?
Title: OMG IZ DAT A HEADCRAB HAT??!!1!
Post by: spengo on December 15, 2006, 12:40:00 pm
holiday set doesn't have team fortress but it has CS:S and the hl1 deathmatch: source and hl2 deathmatch.

honestly, I don't have ANY of my steam games in boxes O_Oshocked2.gif all of them I just bought online and dled.

Also, the steam servers are down today. (a first in my experience!) because of giant wind storms in oregon and washington. (servers are in seattle I think) I live in portland oregon and I was like ZOMG I hope the windows don't break. Lots of people around here still don't have power! lots of powerlines and trees fell down. I guess the steam server place is one of those. Fortunately I live in one of the lucky neighborhoods that still has power--woot. Should be fixed by tomm. I think. Just a few minutes ago it was doing crazy-a** hailing here too! O_Oshocked2.gif The weather is on crack or something today.

And sorry to hear about the wind storms.

yeah, there is even a house in my neighborhood that a tree fell on and the roof caved in. Apparently there was a blizzard on mt. hood and a lot of people are stuck up there too. I think I got lucky, hehe.
