Much of you should know about Team Plasma making a Pokemon Rights Movement. Now, let's discuss it. I think forcing Pokemon into tiny little balls and forcing them to hurt others of their race (not species....) until one faints from pain/exhaustion is evil and mean. thoughts?
-
Well i mean pokemon don't really exist you know. but I can't take you, N or team plasma seriously at your word because you all still stuff pokemon in little balls.
theoretically, of course.
-
tch... touche
but i do it for the greater good. and i release pokemon after battling.
-
so besides being a pokemon fanboy what kind of calculator interests do you have on omnimaga?
-
i like FPS games and i can program in TI BASIC language. I want to learn Axe or ASM programming

Note: Just because somebody likes Pokémon doesn't mean he's a fanboy. A fanboy is someone who worships something as perfect and bash anything else such as Digimon or Neopets, for example, and someone who call other people names for liking something different than them.

If TI-BASIC is the language you're most comfortable with, then I'd suggest learning Axe first and then ASM. Axe is pretty much the perfect combination of TI-BASIC and ASM for people who want to ease into assembly programming.

There's the Pokemon Rangers, they don't use pokeballs, they just draw little circles on their ds :P

no, that would be a bigot. Fanboy is a term used to describe a male who is highly devoted and biased in opinion towards a single subject or hobby within a given field. It's not a bad term unless you make it one, and Enu_N said he was a huge fan in his intro, dj
perhaps you haven't noticed but he does hold pokemon in quite significantly high regard. I've heard him talk of little else.

So true. Team Plasma is a noble cause. We're enslaving Pokémon, people!

In some ways it's still considered a rude word, though.

The bold part is what DJ_O described. samebull, if you just want to argue, don't do it here.

I'll admit that he was somewhat setting himself up to be called a highly devoted fan, but the way it was said and definitely WHERE it was said was most of the issue, IMHO.

Yeah true. Some people take offense to being called a fanboy, since it designs a lot of bad people. I also do not see how talking mostly about Pokémon and nothing else is a problem either, as long as the person doesn't cause any troubles on the forums. In any case, calling people a fanboy or names is at risk of causing trouble.
-
I stand by my earlier application of "fanboy" and I'll point to this topic to support it's dictionary definition.
http://ourl.ca/11927/225339;topicseen#new
I didn't see Enu_N taking offense, fanboy is not a derogatory term, and the argument that followed was baseless and pointless.
End of line.
-
The term "fanboy" has and is used negatively on the internet, that's why people responded to it in such a way. Omnimaga is meant to be a hostility free environment, and people want to be sure it remains such. I can see that you didn't use the term in a negative way. I think that we should all just move on, I see no need to dwell on something that wasn't meant to be negative or hurtful, right? :)

But they're not alive! They're just data allocations on a memory chip that run on previously programmed instructions! They can't 'feel' anything!

we should all stop eating meat and release our pets into the wild
be free, Shark! *dumps fishbowl in garden*

I LOLed IRL. :D Yeah, I guess that's what this movement thing would do if it happened in the real world...

Somebody call People for the Ethical Treatment of Abstractions, hurry!
-
Samebull...
-
Samebull...
oh, if you're confused.... I used abstractions because "Pokemon" or "monster" doesn't really work.
-
Pokemon are no Monsters.
They're yust Pokemon.
Quite easy!
-
Pokémon = Pocket Monster
Pokémon are monsters
You can't fight the truth ;)
-
yes... :P
But I don't think THIS looks like a monster:
But I know, there are more than two pokemon...

You're right: It is a monster
-
Why is this little fish a monster?
It really won't eat you!
(at the moment...)
-
Maybe it is nice, it doesn't change anything. "Monster" doesn't mean "mean" ("bad guy", "eater", "whatever").
It means, umm, well, yeah, you know.
-
monster means MONSTER!!!
And a MONSTER is a big, bad guy (or thing) who wants to eat you.
Looks this little fish like a hungry monster?
NO!
-
A MONSTER is not (always) a big, bad guy (or thing) who wants to eat you.
A monster is a non-registered living being.
^This is a non-meaning sentence.
-
Monster is usually used with a negative connotation, but in many cases it's not a derogatory term.
(On a side note, I just used some monstrous terms up there) :P
In the case of Pokemon, the original name was "Pocket Monsters". It was shortened to Pokemon when they realized the term could be misinterpreted. But Pokemon are, in a sense, monsters. If they were to suddenly appear here (assuming Pokemon never existed) they would be labeled as monsters before getting a classification.
Hope that clears up a bit of the confusion ;D

I'm locking this topic because people can't discuss here without fighting. If I notice anymore of this pointless argument, I'm starting to hand bans.
