Title: Pokemon Ruby and Saphire remakes announced for November '14
Post by: turiqwalrus on May 07, 2014, 12:36:17 pm

So, this is a thing, apparently.

I'm quite excited myself, being a fan of the Hoenn region. The brighter colours and interesting town design really stood out compared to other games. Also, this of course gives those of us without DSs the possibility to transfer Hoenn pokemon over to our other games, which is always nice.

My real question at this point is if they're going to adapt these to be more like X and Y (ergo, diagonal/freeform movement, the more 3d environments, etc.) If they did so, I could see these topping the originals by quite a margin.

In any case, share your thoughts on their decision to (finally) offer us a remake!

Awesome, however, my mom won't let me get video games, I am trying to convince her to let me get a 2DS to play Pokemon X and Y, and now these. But I just use TI Boy CSE, anyway.

Seriously ? O.O
Because Topaz is more for people who already played Pokemon, otherwise you don't know what you are supposed to do :P

Anyway, nice to see remakes. Not that I like that generation particularly, but I'd rather play it on a fresh new platform with a fresh new engine than on old hardware with tilemapping :P

I'm so hyped for this, because Sapphire was the first Pokemon I ever owned, and so I really love Hoenn.

Here's to hoping we get a Mega-Sceptile!

My first Pokémon game was Fire Red on the GBA. It does have bright colors like all third gen Pokémon games, and it's pretty epic. :D The only other one I have completed was Emerald, and it was great too. I stopped after beating Elite 4 though. I hope these remakes will have story expansions like the Sevii Islands part in Fire Red/Leaf Green.

LOL I don't know Pokémon names in English. D: That's basically the only game I'm reluctant to play in English just because of that.

Interesting. Sadly I never got much into Pokemon myself, though. I got Pokémon Heartgold French (european) version with the Pokéwalker, but only because it was $20 despite being an Ebay collectible (although not as much as the English or Japanese versions, which are like $100 complete now). My main issue is having to manage that many Pokemons. I would rather play Topaz which only has 40+ Pokémons.

I actually predicted this back when X and Y first came out. Yeah, I'm excited.

Lol yeah, they used to have that catch phrase "Gotta catch'em all" when it was about 151 Pokemons, but they don't use it anymore because it would lack credibility I guess :P
It's also annoying when you encounter a Pokemon and you don't know its type. It didn't happen when you knew all Pokemons (when they were not so many) but now, every Pokemon I encounter is unknown to me. Can't tell how to catch it (without killing it or without dying first) nor if it's worth getting in the party or just get in the box. That's another reason why I like remakes, there are less Pokemons than in newer releases.

Personally, I'm excited for this. I fell out of the Pokemon from bad experiences in Gens V and VI. I'm also prepared to finally play in the games from Gen III.

I actually liked V and VI more than Gen III/IV (with the exception of Platinum and Emerald). I want an Emerald remake more than anything, really.

Not really true actually. :P There are not more than 200 Pokémons you can catch in each game. The 1000 monsters that now exist can only be gotten by exchanging with other versions. ;) Also it's just some getting used to in order to know which ones are good or not. Given the number of times I played Fire Red,  I can tell you that I know almost all the worthy Pokémon.

Yeah, but you are talking about an old generation here (Fire Red), but can you tell every worthy and every worthy Pokemon in X and Y ?

From a retired point of view : why not? Actually I was expecting this for literally years and now we're faced to it. Sure we will get changes (just look at Groudon and Kyogre, they are surely at Mega state). What I expected I a Hoenn with an extended map/story. Pokon chose to mature over generations (Gen III started it with a *viable* cause, ecosystel) and I truly think they want to have a new story. What I expect too is the classic 8 badges quest coming to background, or almost. In a search of a better game, a simple "fetch the 8 McGuffins" has been overused, but here I'm just shooting at a dead horse.

Let's see. I don't to play 'Mon anymore, but I want to see how far they'll reach, in bad and good ways.

I never played X/Y so no I can't tell. :P But having played other generations (actually now I remember I beat Diamond too) I can tell the worthy Pokémon in these. ;)

Gen 1 will always be the very best, that no one ever was.

I agree, but it is also fun finding new Pokemon, however, some of the new ones, well, are... uneeded.
