Title: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: JustCause on November 09, 2010, 10:40:51 am
Anyone play?

I main CF in SSB64 (which I play online with Kaillera religiously), CF in Melee (which I don't play at all), and CF in Brawl (which I play semi-regularly). Spot the pattern.

Also, this is me, not implying that I'm good or anything. I have other vids on the same channel, but they're all from the last year. Watch some of Isai's vids (he used to play Melee and recently quit for 64). The guy is a machine. According to him, 1 frame delay is fake Smash.

I played it on the consoles a lot, but I don't have Brawl. I tried kaillera once, didn't really like it that much. Too much work for one game.

I don't have brawl, but I love melee and the original.

I played some tournament in hi school (once it was SSB but then they switched to SSBM). I haven't played Brawl much. I never got attracted that much by SSB games, though, because I don't like fighting games that much.

This might be a good place to ask about favorite characters to use.  My best character is Pikachu

Which game?

I think when I played SSBM at school, I used Pikachu mostly. I used Bowser a couple of times, too.

My best character is Pikachu
Which game?

All three of them.  I realise that characters can get adjusted from game to game (for instance, someone said that Mr. Game and Watch was better in brawl than in melee) but I found Pikachu to be generally consistent except for the pro players

I am confused what you mean ???

Brawl+ and Brawl- are hacks of Brawl which change physics stuff and the details of some moves, to make the game more competitive.

Now we need SSB for calcs...

I own all 3 games of this series, total played >1000 hours.  ;D
I really enjoyed playing these games.

Now I remember the first post I made here.
Hi Omnimaga Community,
I wanted to learn the ION included z80 Assembly language but I'm unsure since I found Axe Parser. It's an amazing language! Asm is faster than Axe Parser, but that, what I want to create, dont need so much Framerate. My project will be a pokemon game without round-battles, but Fights like Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Nintendo Wii).
That will be take much memory (for the sprite data, map data etc), so my question is, wether Axe Parser compiled programs needs much more memory size than Asm progs.
Regards,
Aichi
I will try to make a beat em up (perhaps without some RPG elements^^) next year using a system similar to Little Fighter 2,
cause this system would be completly data-based.

Now we need SSB for calcs...

Of course it can be done, but imagine all the sprite data needed, even if only for 10 frames per character for five characters.  Cause there's also weapons and items data, and of course tiles.  I think the code would have nothing on the amount of graphics needed
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on November 09, 2010, 04:28:36 pm
Well, it would have to be stripped down for sure. tr1p1ea on MaxCoderz was working on a clone back then but I never saw screenshots. I think it would definitively be a huge undertaking, especially link play and graphics.

I was working on an SSB game for the 83+/84+ calcs, but then I got distracted with Pokemon and then Axe...
Maybe after I finish Blur and Collision Course I could pick it back up...

Ike all the way!

Although Sonic rocks in the Boss mode, cuz of his aerial B attack, which homes in on the enemy and you can chain it and stay in the air for a really long time.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: Yeong on November 09, 2010, 07:56:10 pm
My only usage of Ike is for up B
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: FinaleTI on November 09, 2010, 07:57:53 pm
His up B is pretty awesome, but his smash attacks (not his Final Smash) can really blow the enemy away. And his Final Smash rules.

Samus final smash owns too. Zero beam.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: FinaleTI on November 09, 2010, 08:09:56 pm
Yeah, it is pretty awesome.

Lucario is actually a pretty good character too, cuz he can stick to walls. ;) (I think Sheik can do this too, but Lucario's cooler.)
I designed a custom stage to take advantage of that. At the top are moving platforms. Then, on the edges, all the way down, a sheer , straight wall. The entire floor below is made of drop-blocks. If you make this using the large stage size, even Kirby can't reach the top. The only way for other characters to reach to top is to die and respawn.

Yeah, some of them are pretty slow (I think the DS was major laggy).
I would post the link, but the site also has ROM downloads, so...

Currently I play SSB 64 and SSB Brawl. The original is my favorite. I have played on Kaillera before, but my internet connection is kinda slow. I can play very well with all characters, but Kirby and Mario are my best, DK is my worst. I don't play as much as I used to, but I'd be up for a fight sometime. ^^
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on November 10, 2010, 12:45:32 am
I think it required a special version of P64, right? Also is Kaillera very populated? Years ago I went on online servers to try SSB online and there were like 2 people where I could connect.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: TIfanx1999 on November 10, 2010, 12:48:22 am
I have no idea how popular it is now. When I got on before(a few years ago) I usually had no trouble finding a game. And yea, I think it did require a specific version.

On Super Smash Bros. Brawl, did they fix the issue where online games consisted of only 2-minute rounds?
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.

I also wonder if there's hacking protection, like, will it kick you if you use a ROM hack/action replay?

quote waaaallllllllllllll

On Super Smash Bros. Brawl, did they fix the issue where online games consisted of only 2-minute rounds?
According to Nintendo, this is not an issue. With Anyone sux. There are codes out for couch-to-couch play tho, meaning you can play online with two people from the same console: only reason I get on anymore.

I also wonder if there's hacking protection, like, will it kick you if you use a ROM hack/action replay?
If you are talking about Brawl:
There's no hack protection, but most hacks will simply cause you to desynch because they don't show up on the other person's console. This is why B+/B-/P:M/BB online play works.
(Brawl+/Brawl-/Project M/Balanced Brawl)
If you are talking about SSB64 on Kaillera:
No, because most people play with cheats on! Have All Characters and Unlock Item Switch are crucial if you want to be well-recieved by the pro SSB64 community (and not piss off Falcon mains). There is autofire detection though, and the ops are fairly good about banning trolls. As for ROM hacks, if your ROMs don't match the game won't start!

Awesome! I go by Miyagi on Kaillera now, we should meet on the new G64.

I think it required a special version of P64, right? Also is Kaillera very populated? Years ago I went on online servers to try SSB online and there were like 2 people where I could connect.
Yes, you need Project 64k, and if you're on Vista/7 you need to swap a graphics plugin as well. As for population, it depends on what time you get on and what server you're on. There are ridiculous amounts of games and available people on the new Galaxy 64 (69.90.34.245:27888) from about 4:00 PM CST on. (also, the new server gives me 3ms ping ;P) If not, GodWeapon and West Wonderland are fairly populated.

Well, it would have to be stripped down for sure. tr1p1ea on MaxCoderz was working on a clone back then but I never saw screenshots. I think it would definitively be a huge undertaking, especially link play and graphics.
Really? I thought there were screenies on that thread...
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.
Post by: DJ Omnimaga on November 10, 2010, 02:09:56 pm
Oh wait now that I remember, there were effectively some screenies, but I think there wasn't that much done in terms of fighting. Just kirby moving around. The last update was years ago.

As for hacks I guess this is fine then, I was just worried that people just plain cheated, making the game unfair for others. In Starcraft 1 there were often maphacks, money hacks, disconnect hacks (the later happens in almost every game, now)

Huh, I haven't made a post in a while.

Many hours of mine have gone into Super Smash Bros. In SSB64 I would always use Blue Link. Always Blue. No exceptions. In Melee Roy was my boy, and in Brawl (Also Brawl+) I main with Ike, but have started to branch off to other characters such as Lucas and Jigglypuff (dat sunhat).

Oh, if anyone is interested, I might be able to make a mockup or two provided someone gives some details on possible sizes for character sprites and all that fun stuff.

Nairplane = Fox's neutral aerial attack. It's really good in Melee and combos like crazy in the Hyrule Castle tent (in 64). My playstyle does NOT defend well against it.

I used Link a lot in SSB2. He had a nice bomb move that could do some damage if used right. And hell I used it right! ;)

Friends Gamecube though.
Title: Re: Super Smash Bros.

My only problem with Link (whom I like a lot) is his slow recovery time if you miss.
Otherwise, he's cool.
I'm still trying to decide: who can get higher: kirby or pikachu?
Kirby: Fairly obvious, but multi jump ability is pretty good
Pika: After double jumping, his up-B move can propel him pretty darn far into the air.
