Unvanquished (http://unvanquished.net) is a hot new fps based off of (http://unvanquished.net/forum/entry.php/40-Unvanquished-A-Retrospect-%28Part-I%29) Tremulous (http://tremulous.net/), an alien vs human fps with rts elements.  They are in their 8th alpha (http://unvanquished.net/news/23-alpha-8-has-been-released), and have been featured on Phoronix several (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTE2ODE) times (http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=MTEzMTM).  They have some of the best artists in open source, and are making steady progress monthly (http://unvanquished.net/forum/entry.php/41-Unvanquished-A-Retrospect-%28Part-II%29).  Hop on by and frag some aliens with me :).

Looks quite nice actually. Contrary to many older open-source FPSes, however, will this one require steep system requirements? Back in 2005-07, when I would try commercial games, they would run fine on any computer from the last 5-6 years, but freeware/open-source counterparts would only run on high-end systems from the last year or two.
