Title: Can't downgrade my nSpire (Missing link software)
Post by: BrownyTCat on November 03, 2011, 08:24:03 am
I recently decided to downgrade my blue clickwheel nSpire to OS2.1, but TI Nspire Computer Link is missing, and since TI messed up so badly, most people can't even run the PC versions below 1.6. I found 1.2 on a CD and 1.3 and 1.4 online, none of which work at all. 1.3 and 1.4 give me a "communication library" error and 1.2 does this on XP but doesn't even install on Win7. I did try TiLP2 but it literally never detected my calculator while it was on, plugged into a USB port. What should I do or how can any of these be fixed? If anyone has a copy of link 1.6 I can run that without problems.

Try removing TiLP or TI's software, they might conflict with each other.

Edit: or try setting TiLP's port to 'directlink'

BrownyTCat, why don't you ask TI for it?

Because they won't let anyone have it. They took it off the site and the only way to send ANYTHING now is to buy student software, which doesn't make any sense.

Yeah it's really retarded that TI did that. They assumed that everyone would get it when they buy a calc, since it now comes for free with the calc, but what about those who bought the calc before they started doing that? Those people are pretty much screwed.

ANyway sorry I never used TiLP for the Nspire so I cannot help you. However the Computer Link software is still present on TI server: It's just no longer linked on their site (like OS 2.0.1 for example). Here's a TI-Planet link but it seems the last Computer Link version is 1.4, not 1.6. TI-Planet doesn't have 1.6 available: http://tiplanet.org/modules/archives/download.php?id=1711

Did you really try to ask them? The last TI-Nspire sold without Student Software license are not that old, they can't leave so many users without linking software.

One issue is what do they do if someone bought his calc used on Ebay? Can he pretend he lost the CD and get a serial for free if he gives his calc serial or register it on TI website? Or are those people screwed?

Yeah, TI is just being greedy. I bought mine new from Best Buy with he old CD, which works neither on x64 or x86 Windows. ONE laptop I have runs 1.4, but it's a pain to send files from Lua to a compiler to 1 computer to another and then to the system. At least it's not cut off from the genius of developers anymore.
