Title: Cant update my frickin OS
Post by: sodium.777 on January 12, 2011, 11:01:54 pm
Hi everyone
i cant seem to update my os at all.
i am using version 1.0 os and the old ndless.

when i use computer link software (i tried both newest and a fairly old one)
wen i update it downloads and almost finishes installing the os.
when it looks to almost filling the bar, it says 'error corrupted file'
I HAVE TRIED BOTH 1.7 AND 2.1
How do i upgrade my calculator???
school starts soon and everyone needs a at least 2.0 calc

Hi and welcome on the forums.

I assume that you really mean OS 1.0 and not 1.1, right? Because unfortunately if you have OS 1.0, this means you have a TI-Nspire CAS+ instead of a TI-Nspire CAS. The CAS+ was a prototype model that never officially got released, but was leaked on Ebay. This prototype cannot be upgraded at all, unlike the official TI-Nspire and TI-Nspire CAS+ calculator models. In other words, you might be screwed. :(

If 1.0 was a typo and you meant 1.1, then have you downloaded OS 1.7 and 2.1 from TI website and did you download the right file? For the CAS it ends in .tnc and for the regular TI-Nspire it ends in .tno.

my calculator is a ti nspire cas from officworkks
i still dont see why tnc files is corrupted. i have tried the one on my disk (1.7)
downloaded it multiply times from the website and they always end with the same result. maybe it is because i installed ndless? i deleted the ndless uninstaller a long time ago.
my ndless was the old one

I hope you realize that if you upgrade to OS 2.1 ndless will no longer work due to a patch released by TI. Nor will you be able to downgrade your OS back to 1.1 or 1.7. Not that I encourage cheating, but you can pretty easily fool a teacher into thinking you have OS 2.1

Actually Ndless is being developed for OS 2.0.1 and 2.1 and it's possible to get rid of OS 2.1 by using Nleash 1.1.

Personally when I uninstalled Ndless I prefered to format the entire calc. I went to the maintenance menu and wiped everything including the OS, then I re-installed a new OS after rebooting the calc. I forgot the key combination to access the maintenance menu, though. Hopefully someone can help on your corrupted file issue.

what is the hardest reset i can do to my cas? I want to completely wipe the os and restore to factory or even pre factory settings
the only reset i can find in the manual is the 3 second reset button.
yeah i think ill go 2.0.1 os.
my textbooks were written for that anyway.

I am not sure if my calculator still has ndless on it or not after the reset. I deleted the uninstaller without uninstalling the program lol :)
maybe that is causing all my problems.

also, my link software (both versions) wont recognize i have a calc plugged in unless i pull the usb out and in AFTER i open the program.

hmm i just read that i need to install an older one before i can upgrade to 2.1

how should i upgrade my calc?
so now ive fully formatted my calc and i need a link for 1.7 :)
the link stick has problems.
it starts of at 100kbps then drops to 10 and then stops and leaves me a mutilated half file.

woopee just installed 2.0.1!
and for some reason once i installed it a bar popped up on my screen saying installing 2.1.xx despite the fact i downloaded 2.0.1 on this website.

sneaky texas instruments.
though checking the status shows 2.0.1.60. maybe i just read it wrong
i guess i have to give up pokemon anyway since school is coming :(

still waiting on ndless 2.0.1 and gbc emulator update.

THANKS TO EVERYone!!!!11one!!

Hey, that's great that you got it to work, but please don't double post. :D

What is the key combo to get to the maintanence menu, btw?

BTW, you can safely install OS 2.1 as the new Ndless will work on it too. And you'll get the joy of overclocking it to the max! ;)

Why? The only feature that was added in 2.1 was slider improvements :P, and it uses another mb of storage space. Sodium can use nover to overclock if he wants.

Wait, 1.0? do you by chance have a CAS+? Those can't update at all. Sorry.

Otherwise, it might be that you need the boot2 1.4 file, I'm not sure if 1.7 has that or not. If that's the problem, let me know.

Oh, oops, fixed :P NVM

@graph On, home enter P for clickpad.

im using 2.0.1
so does ndless 1.7 work on it?
and what is the purpose of overclocking a calculatr?

Sadly, Ndless 1.7 does not work on OS 2.0.1

The current development version of Ndless, Ndless 2.0, will work on that OS, but binaries are not being distributed now.  In order to use it, you have to build it yourself.

The purpose of overclocking the Nspire would be to make it do stuff faster, essentially.  That is why TI uses it themselves in OS 2.1! :)

Instead of actually not being lazy and optimizing the code to still run fast instead. <_<

Or ask someone... ;D

oh, z80man there is a program called nleash that bypasses this as i have used it to upgrade from 2.1 ->ndless 1.1 -> 2.1 again. so sodium.777 ndless can be used again on your calc if need be

This is not to mention eventually Ndless 2.0 will come out and work on OS 2.1 anyway. Not sure about 3.0, though.
