Title: Exact measurements on TI-Nspire CX CAS?
Post by: Falcon on January 04, 2013, 09:54:14 pm
Is there any way to calculate exact measurements in a Geometry document on the TI-Nspire CX CAS? For example, when I create a line segment between (0,2) and (2,0) and measure its length, I get 2.83. Since this is the CAS version, is it possible to get the calculator to give exact lengths (2√2 in this case)?

Thanks.

Hey welcome to the forums.

I have the CX CAS too but I never figured out how to do that.

I noticed that it does integer division when there is no "." well not totally integer division but it leaves it in fraction form if there is a decimal.

I also noticed that when finding the vertex on a graph it will only give you a couple numbers after the decimal while on a TI-84+ it will give you so many more places after the decimal point.

I know that this doesn't answer your question but they were just things that might help try to figure it out.

I know how to make it display more numbers, but I don't know about radical form

The Nspire is rounding the result. AFAICT the Nspire won't give answers in radical form. I tried to write a library to do this, and I couldn't get it to work. Sorry :-/

In that case, is there any coordinate geometry library that can do exact calculations like finding the distance between two points, distance between a point and a line, the area of any polygon given its coordinates, etc.?
