How do I gut a link cable's plug to find out what wire does what (clock, data, and ground)? I am trying to build a gCn bridge, but I don't know what does what... posted here and on Cemetech

Well you just have to cut the cable in half and strip the insulation but you better look for some CalcNet documentation.
-
I know but I do not know what wire is what (just used a generic 2.5mm to 2.5mm audio cable)
-
Oh then do what I said. White wire is tip, red is ring and shielding is ground.
-
No; I have red, black, and green; generic cable that works for linking
-
The cable works for Calcnet2.2
-
Well I can't help more. Try a multimeter in continuity check mode.
Also don't double post, use the edit button.
-
red is right audio, black is left audio and green is the shield/ground thingy.
-
Yes and tip is left, ring is right, the bottom is ground.

The simplest way to figure it out is to take a battery, light (a christmas light would work), and some wire and make a little circuit. First make sure your circuit actually works, and then use that to figure out which wire goes where.
If you don't have a light, you can use a 9V battery and swipe the wire across the plug. If you're lucky it will make little sparks when you get the right one. You could also use your tongue to check for current, but, that's getting kind of desperate ;D

....or just look up on wikipedia :P

Or use a multimeter. Seriously it's the easiest way if you have one.

I totally agree a multimeter is easier. But if he had to ask the question I was going to guess he didn't have one.
-
Yeah maybe you're right.
-
Yes. Yes you are.
Now I know that green is GND, so I can just swap it... but neither combo works...
